I'm actually a little bit worried that he's performing "Riser" on the ACM's, simply because it makes me think Dierks was told by Capitol that they wouldn't be able to commit to "Riser" as a radio single, thus leading Dierks to lobby to perform it at the ACM's. Or maybe I'm over-thinking it, and this is an endorsement of "Riser" as the next single. I still have a feeling "Sounds Of Summer" is the next single or even "Five", and this is just a one off for "Riser", just for some time in the spotlight. This is in line with my thinking, too. It's possible that by showcasing "Riser" on the ACMs the response is such that it becomes the next single, but I think this is Dierks' way of giving the song the National spotlight since the label has other ideas. It was really hard to tell what Dierks was alluding to in the Radio.com interview.

Well it looks like this song put on the brakes today, and will play nice so Sam Hunt can get his week at #1. Dierks actually lost a tiny bit of audience while Sam gained 200k. Looks like Dierks will take his week at #1 next week.

I wouldn't mind "Five" as the next single, but "Riser" would be awesome to hear on the radio.

A little bummed he did "Riser" on the ACMs instead of "Say You Do," because I'm really loving this song right now. He did great with the title track though, so I suppose it was no harm done.

Tbh I want another single from the album so that it has a chance to go Gold. By the first week of April it has sold 311k, so I think sales should be about 316k (counting this week's chart). It also spent 56 weeks on the Billboard 200, his first album to spend a year on the chart since "Long Trip Alone".

Number one on MB today. Congrats, Dierks. Dierks will most definitely be #1 by Sunday but a song isn't declared a #1 on MB until Sunday evening. If a song is #1 on let's say Wednesday and Thursday, but isn't #1 by Sunday, it's not a #1 song. Think "This Is How We Roll" last spring.

Yes, I know the rules and how might Lee Brice sneaks in for the top or might be a split of MB / BB , but was just "living the moment". ;)

I give Lee a 1% chance of hitting #1 this weekend. I'm almost certain that's not going to happen, but what probably will happen is even worse imo. Dierks will get his one week at #1 and then "Drinking Class" will knock SYD from the top with a big push next week, meaning Dierks' "reward" for having a bigger airplay hit is only seven weeks in the top 10 and less time in heavy rotation than Lee Brice's song, which will spend a full ten weeks in the top 10. This is why we have a year-end chart problem, lol. That article onebuffalo posted with a quote from Dierks about potentially ending his Riser era was shocking and disappointing. I don't see "Riser" as a top 10 single but "Five" would be an absolute smash and it'd be a travesty if that didn't worked to radio. My only hope is that when Dierks' meant acceptance that this era is over, he was referring to not getting to release "Riser" as a sixth single, and "Five" is at least still lined up for single #5. With how huge this era has been and how big Dierks has gotten at the award shows, I can't imagine cutting the era just over a year after the release date.

I don't think they'll end it with Say You Do, as it doesn't sound like he's found his lead single yet, and certainly isn't close to finishing the album. That said, I don't think Five is in play here at all - I think the decision is down to Sounds of Summer vs. Riser, and I'd probably give the edge to SoS here, going into Summer, and the name of the tour, as well. I could be wrong, and I love Five, but I just don't feel like it's on the radar.

Nice move on the albums chart for Riser: #25 to #14.
Moves into #1 at MediaBase:
3 1 DIERKS BENTLEY Say You Do 7590 7340 250 59.846

This #1 push for "Drinking Class" did take me by surprise. I was expecting a situation similar to "Bottoms Up" vs. "Give Me Back My Hometown" last year where the bigger hit ended up going up ahead of the smaller hit and still only getting one week at the top before the smaller hit took over #1. I don't see why Dierks fans would be upset by this, though. Dierks will now get two weeks at #1 on Billboard provided Lee Brice can't close the huge audience gap (over 1.5 million on Mediabase) over the next few days. I'm definitely more content to see "Drinking Class" get out of the way this week so next week "Say You Do" won't have to worry about competing for a second week at #1.

Capitol is definitely content on letting Curb have the MB #1 this week while Dierks will most likely get two on Billboard and one on MB (the whole make everybody happy epidemic). Lee gained 105 spins today, and 286 for the week while Dierks lost 33 spins and has gained 43 this week. Interesting to note that Curb sent out a special live version of "Drinking Class" to radio this morning ( here), signaling a late push, though they didn't really need to as this little push was coming anyway.

Even though there's a sizeable gap back to Keith/Eric, the fact that SYD has posted two days of straight (though small) losses has me concerned that SYD has in fact peaked and it will fall next week. I am in no way convinced the 2 weeks on BB/1 week on MB scenario is what's going to happen, though my worries are slightly buoyed by the fact that Keith/Eric are labelmates.

Let's see how things shake out at the start of the week, next week. I really think Capitol would like to keep promoting Dierks through the end of next week, allowing him to claim #1 on both charts. I'm not too confident that will happen but that's the thing I'd be doing if I were them. I know "Say You Do" is not the mega hit that "Homegrown" or "Take Your Time" was but I still think another week of small gains are possible, plus the fact that the song coming up is Keith/Eric who are on the same label, which you pointed out.

I give Lee a 1% chance of hitting #1 this weekend. I'm almost certain that's not going to happen... Oops. *Awkward chuckle.* To offer a weak defense for my horrible prediction, Lee Brice co-hosts Lon Helton's Country Countdown USA this weekend, with Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, and Tyler Farr co-hosting the next three weekends, so I figured Curb might have planned to push next week since they wouldn't lose the bonus spins "Drinking Class" got on this syndicated show until next Monday (5/4). Last year, final pushes for singles usually came the week after artists co-hosted this show, meaning the final bullet for a song would include the extra syndicated spins Helton gives the song on the Mediabase chart, but the spins were lost by the Monday Billboard chart. I noticed a trend that ever since September-ish, it seems artists tend to co-host the weekend of the final push instead (meaning the syndicated spins do count towards the song's final bullet on Billboard, but on Mediabase only the extra spins on the few stations that air the show on Saturday count towards the final bullet). Chris Young co-hosted the week before his final push for "Lonely Eyes," but that was one song that should have gone up way earlier and never really did claim a solid week for #1. It just sort of hanged around in the top 5 until it had missed its chance for #1 due to RCA's negligence. I wonder if there is a reason why labels have started arranging the co-hosting a week earlier? At first I had just assumed the schedule had gotten off a little (back when Cole Swindell, Luke Bryan, FGL, Jason Aldean, etc. co-hosted a week earlier last fall), but now I guess this is the new norm.

Shane McAnally just tweeted that this is #1 on Billboard. Woohoo! Wasn't any doubt in my mind all week that this would easily finish ahead of Lee Brice. Lee's push reeked of "Mediabase-only #1" the whole time. So glad for Dierks though, this song is one of my favorites and it sounds so good on the radio. I'm so glad he has another #1!

Ad in Aircheck Today: I fully expected them to keep pushing for the Mediabase #1, given that any song that goes #1 on Billboard first never eases up on the throttle until it's #1 on Mediabase too. This could mean that Dierks will get 2 weeks at #1 on Billboard, although it's possible that Capitol will navigate things so that Dierks is the MB #1 on Sunday but "Raise 'Em Up" takes over the BB #1 on Monday. Obviously we won't know how they're gonna play it until a bit later in the week.
