BABS RUNS UP THE SCORE: We told you yesterday there was a chance Barbra Streisand’s Partners (Columbia) could best the 180k opening week of her 2009 album Love Is the Answer. Today, it looks very likely that she’ll do just that, as we raise our projection to 175-185k—making it a lock for #1 on next week’s chart. Partners will be Streisand’s 10th #1 album, more than any other female artist. One of the more fascinating aspects of this release is the digital percentage, which could be as high as 35%. Traditionally, digital sales have contributed far less to upper-demo artists. Wonderers are wondering if this could signal a shift to a more digital-friendly upper-demo market. (9/19a)
YOUR TOP 15: Barbra Streisand now seems to be within striking distance of the first-week sales of her prior set, 2009’s Love Is the Answer, which opened with 180k. As we’ve grown her projection every day this week, we certainly can’t rule out the possibility that Partners could bow with an even higher number. We're getting verklempt over here! OneRepublic, meanwhile, re-enters the Top 10 thanks to a 99-cent sale that began yesterday at Google Play. Here’s how it looks headed into the weekend:
1. Barbra Streisand (Columbia) 165-175k
2. Chris Brown (RCA) 135-145k
3. Tim McGraw (Big Machine) 65-70k
4. George Strait (MCA Nashville) 50-55k
5. Train (Columbia) 45-50k
6. Maroon 5 (222/Interscope) 40-45k
7. OneRepublic (Interscope) 40-45k
8. For King & Country (Curb) 28-32k
9. Slash (Dyk Hayd) 24-27k
10. Frozen (Walt Disney) 21-24k
11. Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 (Hollywood) 21-24k
12. Jeezy (Def Jam) 20-23k
13. Ariana Grande (Republic) 19-21k
14. Lecrae (Reach) 18-20k
15. Lee Brice (Curb) 17-19k
16. Sam Smith (Capitol) 17-9k
In other music news, the Scottish independence vote may not be counted until tomorrow, but we're already rocking our Independent Haggis Mix, featuring Annie Lennox, Big Country, the Bay City Rollers, Shirley Manson, Average White Band, the Proclaimers and Jack Bruce. (9/18p)
YOUR NEW RELEASES: Hello, gorgeous! As we mentioned earlier, Barbra Streisand's Partners will croon its way to a #1 bow on next week's HITS Album Sales Chart. The set has ascended to #1 at iTunes, and indications are that the digital portion of her sales may be higher than previously anticipated. Here's a rundown of the key debuts:
Barbra Streisand (Columbia) 155-165k
Chris Brown (RCA) 130-140k
Tim McGraw (Big Machine) 67-72k
George Strait (MCA Nashville) 45-50k
Train (Columbia) 40-45k
Slash (Dyk Hayd) 25-28k

In addition to Babs' TV marathon, we'll be on the lookout for surprise appearances by one of her many duet partners. (9/17p)
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES: What looked like another race for #1 has developed into a decisive win for Barbra Streisand over Chris Brown. Based on one-day reads, we’re calling Babs at around 160k, a lead of 20-25k over Breezy. With next week’s chart-topping album, Streisand will have scored a #1 album in six consecutive decades. Off the top of our head, we can’t think of any other artist who can make that claim. Can you? (9/17a)
YOUR EARLY READS: It appears we'll see another battle for #1 on next week's HITS Album Sales Chart, with Columbia's Barbra Streisand vying for the crown with RCA's Chris Brown. Early reads suggest both titles are destined for bows in the neighborhood of 120k. Babs' new set, Partners, features duets with Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Lionel Richie, Michael Bublé, John Mayer and Elvis Presley, among others; Brown's X boasts guests Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Kendrick Lamar and Jhené Aiko, among others. As always, we remind that these are very early numbers; stay tuned for updates. (9/15p)
