In terms of all her singles, I probably would only put this ahead of Mama's Song. I'm very disappointed. :(

I absolutely love this. Carrie's faith and desire to use music as her way to share that with people is one of my favorite things about her. The fact that she put a song as spiritual as this (even more so than JTTW and TH) as a single shows her commitment to that. The lyrics are fantastic and the choir at the end is spectacular. However, my favorite part of this is the sound of it. The verses have an early 2000s country vibe to them (plus theres a banjo <3 ) but Carrie still added that powerful anthemic sound to the choruses and the end of the song. Major props to Carrie for releasing this song and major props to Country radio if they actually play this because its very much a Christian song with some country production sung by a country artist. I think it'll do fine because its Carrie and a lead single, but I'm not sure this'll be a #1 on country for her. However, her team definitely needs to promote this to Christian radio too. JTTW did fantastic there and this definitely could too.

If she's due in February that's not spring so she had to conceive in May so that means her and Mike would know or just be finding out the gender now as she's 4 1/2 months that is unless they wait until she gives birth as about 1/3 of couples in this country do on an annual basis. many first time mothers also experience some level of separation anxiety in the first few months after their baby is born so she may opt out of C.M.A. fest in June as for the new studio album be patient some artists take a few years after a child is born to release a new album of studio material especially if film soundtracks get in the way for example Whitney Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown was born March 4th 1993 and Whitney's next studio album didn't come out for almost six years due to two more movie soundtracks 1995's Waiting To Exhale and 1996's The Preachers Wife My Love Is your Love was released exactly six years after the Bodyguard Soundtrack

First I will say, I don't think I have ever heard Carrie sound better. Totally blown away by her voice. It's perfect.
But as someone who doesn't believe in a god or gods, this song is not my cup of tea and will be really the first single from Carrie I won't have on my Ipod. I hope there are a few more new songs on the Greatest Hits because her voice is just perfect right now.

It's definitely her most religious single. Let Matt have his opinion. More than JTTW? Forgot about JTTW, but I still think a song entirely about baptism is more religious than a song with multiple real-life scenarios resorting back to seeking higher powers for help. The lyrics in JTTW were both relatable in the chorus and hypothetical in the bridges. This song is all Jesus, all "I'm saved." But I'm not telling anyone they can't have an opinion. It just didn't make sense to me. That's all, no need to condescend me like I'm five, I'm a big boy. If I came across as condescending, I apologize. Wasn't my intention. Just don't start quoting people to question their reasoning behind their opinion. It never ends well.

This isn't her first religious single though? It's definitely her most religious single. Let Matt have his opinion. This is without a doubt her most religious single to date, though she has had them before ("Jesus Take The Wheel", "Temporary Home"). The vocals are outstanding. In fact it's probably the strongest on a song since - well, "Blown Away". The production is good but can get a bit overbearing, but it's not a problem. The lyrics are also good though not overly creative. Overall a good song IMO. But everybody is different when it comes to religion. I myself do believe in God, but I have many friends who are either not religious or don't believe in God at all. Everyone has free will to live life the way they'd like to live it and that includes choosing to or not to believe in God. Carrie's song I believe doesn't try to sway anyone in terms of religion but to inspire those who choose to be inspired which is something I can respect. I love the fact we have so many unique individuals here that have vastly difference of opinions. But accepting them is what I'm most proud of with Pulse. Anyway, I expect this do do well for Carrie. Not about to predict another #1 single for her but it's great to have her back on the radio once again.

Just don't start quoting people to question their reasoning behind their opinion. It never ends well. I think it comes down to the ambiguity of religion and any individual's interpretation. I interpret JTTW as a direct reference to a god (Jesus), asking for his help in various life situations. SITW is more interpretational in that it could be a gospel song, or just an inspirational ballad... I know it references "Amazing Grace" and being saved... But, idk, I just find JTTW to be more religious based not only on its title, but also it's prayer theme. But it's definitely something that's rather subjective, I think. No hard feelings, I always respect what you have to say. I just found the statement rather confusing because if religion is what turns one off to any kind of music, particularly Carrie's, then it doesn't make sense that this would be the first Carrie single omitted from one's Carrie collection. That's why I asked; not at all to question one's opinion.

I like this a lot, even though Christian music isn't my thing, but this is Carrie and it still sounds pretty country (more so than See You Again, for instance). I love the melody of the verses though so much, and the banjo is nice on the production side of the things. The way the pre-chorus kind of stalls momentum after the verses is something that'll have to grow on me, I'm sure. Overall, I'm pretty impressed. Not one of her best singles, but I do like it a lot.

I'm with you. Although I'm not very religious I do believe in a God and the afterlife, so I'm not bothered if an artist mentions either of those in their music, especially Carrie. I can already tell this is going to grow on me more and more, but man, her voice sounds more powerful now than ever. :o

I can't wait for a live performance of this... With a full chorus and orchestra. Hopefully during the CMAs?

I am absolutely in love with this.
Vocal perfection, and among her best ever. The conviction, her tone, falsetto, and phrasing is PERFECT.
This sounds absolutely effortless for her. Her growth over the years and confidence is just astounding.
Lyrically, this is among her best ever.I love that she has never been afraid to express her beliefs, and that she has a team that is willing to let her take that path instead of stifling her.
As someone who has been disappointed by Country music for a few years now, I am SO glad we have Carrie to represent her beliefs and show popular artists you can be successful and still stay true to what you want, and not what the record label wants.
Well, done, Carrie.

I mean - I love the song too, but did I miss something about how Carrie was rebelling against her label with this one? She's known as one of the biggest team players in the business... I'd wager the label is 1000% behind this one. It's a greatest hits album single. It's a good contrast to the tone of Something Bad. And it fills a void in the country market right now.

Wow. Wow, wow, wow. I can relate to this song down to every last lyric. This is not what I was expecting from Carrie, but I'm pretty sure that this tops "Blown Away" as my all-time favorite single from her. Powerful lyrics, powerful production, and powerful vocals.
I agree with others in thinking that this could be a big hit at the Christian radio formats as well.

"Jesus Take The Wheel" is for sure a religious song - but like 14887fan said, this just feels so much more religious. I expect it do well and if it does, that is fine with me because I want nothing but success for Carrie.

Outstanding vocally, it's quite catchy as well. That said, I'm not a fan of the lyrics. I prefer when Carrie keeps things subtle/spiritual ala "So Small" and "See You Again" rather then going full on faith.
Also, the way "Amazing Grace" was interpolated at the end was a complete miss. It kind of deters me from finishing the song, as if the context isn't enough.
Nonetheless, a marked improvement from "Something Bad" (which it truly was).

Even though she sang an equal amount of vocals on it, "Somethin' Bad" was a Miranda song and single off her album.

I've never read anything about Carrie ever being at odds with her label execs regarding her choices for singles.
OTOH, the decade-plus long brawl between Tim McGraw and Curb Records is the stuff of legend, and the morons at Curb wound up losing the most-played artist of the entire decade (2000-09) on US radio (over 7,800,000 spins) in the process thanks to their belligerence, a decision they'll undoubtedly regret for many years to come.

Yes. And I consider myself to be a big fan of Carrie's, but this single has everything I could want in it. I listen to a lot of Christian music and I think this would sound at home on those radio stations. The banjo and the guitars...I just love everything about this. It was that simple for me. I love, love, love most of Carrie's singles. My favorites are "Jesus, Take The Wheel", "Don't Forget To Remember Me", "Wasted", "Before He Cheats", and "Blown Away". Up until now BA and DFTRM have probably been my favorites but Carrie has outdone herself this time, in my opinion at least.

I am connecting with and loving this song. Nothing remotely like this on Country radio right now, it's perfect. It seems so appropriate to have another faith song to mark her 10 years in the business - being that JTTW was really her first radio single. I love it.

Very reminiscent, production-wise, to "Blown Away". The lyrical content is fine for me and the vocals are good. But her belts on the song are too steely for me. I was hoping they would be warmer, especially of a song of this type. Overall I feel like this is the little brother/sister of "Blown Away" and give it a B-.

Beautiful song and stunning performance.
"Something in the Water" Lyrics
He said I've been where you've been before Down every hallway's a slamming door No way out, no one to come and save me Wasting a life that the Good Lord gave you There's somebody saying what I'm saying to you Open my eyes and told me truth He said: just a little faith and it'll all get better So I followed that preacher man down to the river and now I'm changed And now I'm stronger
There must've been something in the water Oh there must've been something in the water
Well I heard what he said and I went on my way Didn't think about it for a couple of days Then it hit me like lightning late one night I was all out of hoping, all out of fight Couldn't fight back the tears so I fell on my knees Saying God if you're there come and rescue me Felt love pouring down from my ___ Got washed in the water, washed in the blood and now I'm changed
And now I'm stronger
There must be something in the water Oh there must be something in the water
And now I'm singing all along to amazing grace Can't nobody wipe this smile off my face Got joy in my heart, angels on my side Thinking about it, I saw the light, gonna march ahead No turning back, leave everyday, give it all that I have Trusted someone bigger than me Ever since the day that I believed I am changed
And now I'm stronger
There must be been something in the water Oh there must be something in the water Oh there must be something in the water Oh there must be something in the water Oh yeah
I am stronger Stronger I was once lost but now I'm found Was blind but now I see
