I thought this was just a countdown single, is it really being sent to country radios?

The commercial saying this would be a single has been out for a while now, just been waiting for something in writing to confirm. This song is not as instant as "Bartender" or "Downtown" for me. Not terrible, but not great either. Won't be sure if they made the right choice for second single until the album comes out. But this so far hasn't really stuck with me, it doesn't seem as catchy as "Bartender".

I feel the same as you about Freestyle :/ instead i loved both '747' and 'Long Stretch Of Love' as soon as i heard their previews, definitely way better than this song imo.

This is the best song I've heard by Lady A in years. I've soured on their singles a little more every single since album 3.

After the first couple of listens, this isn't doing much. It's not bad, it's just kinda there. I much preferred "Bartender".

I wasn't expecting much after reading the comments above and thought "Ugh, another country release I won't like." Wrong. This is great. I was tapping my foot along the entire time and was just having fun listening along. For me, "Bartender' just fell flat...this was the opposite. The Macklemore name drop doesn't bother me at all actually...I'm a fan of his so I can relate to that specific lyric. I can see what demographic Lady A is going for in this song, and it's the same as "Bartender." I was at a local bar here in Austin around a few weeks back and around about the midnight hour when everyone's favorite songs are always playing I heard "Bartender" come on...that just happened to be mixed in with songs by Pharrell and Macklemore. This would be that 21-35 something crowd that enjoys a mix of everything. I found it odd to hear it, but it was then I realized what audience Lady A is now gunning for. I can see this being another hit for them.

Not feeling this one, but then again I haven't really felt anything from Lady A. since "Hello World". Just not a fan of their current material. :(

I feel like Lady A is quickly turning into what Rascal Flatts have become. Good songs, but no real meaning behind any of the material.

Yeah...I think I'm gonna pass on this album. Not that I have time to listen to these albums anyways.

This is ok. I typically only like their slower stuff, but I can dig this one. Bartender didn't do much for me.

I think there's positive and negative aspects to how quickly country acts release new songs/albums. For the first 5-6 years I think it really is a boost to their career's...it keeps the artist "out there" to be seen and not quickly forgotten by the fan. However, after you hit the 6-7 year mark, and you have an artist that has say already released probably 5 albums, I think you just pretty much burn everyone out except for the diehard fans. If you can make it to that 9-10 year mark before the burnout starts I think you are probably a head of the game. Now, releasing a "classic - great" song somewhere in there can extend your self life. Of course, along with this the artist is getting older and pop/current country music is a young person's game so that goes hand in hand with this as well.
For me in country the burnout is in full swing for Lady A, Brad P., Tim McGraw, Kenny C., Blake S., Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts, and getting there pretty quickly now with Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert. Allan Jackson and Toby Keith are already way behind the bus. Here's the sad state of affairs going forward though...I can't stand "frat country" or whatever they are calling it so my likelihood of liking much new country is slim.

My expectations were very low for this song, based on the negative feedback above. I'm pleasantly surprised, as I'm digging it after a couple listens!

I agree with you about some of these, but some of them are still pretty popular. Kenny Chesney and Lady A both just had #1 songs that are going to go platinum in sales. I wouldn't say they're burning out on country yet . Blake is hard to tell because his music gets the added boost due to his exposure on The Voice. Rascal Flatts and Brad have definitely lost some of their popularity though, as their recent sales indicate (River Band and Payback both sold pretty low numbers for such big names).

Actually River Bank still ranks in the top 50 on iTunes and it has already certified Gold, a feat which some of Brad's other hits have not accomplished. But I do agree with the overall point.

This song is okay, I hope the rest of their songs are strong. Bartender was my favorite country song released this year, but this one is middle ground (and in the current state of country radio, that's a bad thing)

Considering that their three previous singles constituted the three best singles they've released in succession over the course of their career IMHO, I have to admit that I'm really disappointed in this, although I do still plan to buy the CD on Tuesday because 'Bartender' was one of the dishearteningly VERY few singles I really enjoyed in 2014.
This is indeed a far cry from a mesmerizing song such as "Hello World', but that was a terrific single with a haunting story, something which has been lacking at country radio in 2014, and especially by many of the format's superstars.

This is middle ground material, and not anywhere near as good as "Bartender."
I was a pretty big Rascal Flatts fan for a long time, but never could get into Lady A, aside from a few songs.
That said, there are a lot of comparisons between where they used to be and where they have gone in the past several years.
1. Both started with fantastic, strong material in their debut eras and went steadily downhill 2. Both acts seem to get considerably weaker after they found massive crossover success (Need You Now, What Hurts The Most) 3. Both acts tried too hard for a long time to recreate the success of their biggest crossover hits and thus lost a considerable chunk of their respective fanbases 4. Both seemed to realize they were heading in the wrong direction, and got back on track with a single or two, but neither went back to the level of quality they were at before superstardom hit.
Lastly, I think Rascal Flatts have slightly better material than Lady A, but they have also been in the business for a longer length of time, and back in the earlier 200's, Country music was stronger all-around anyway.

This thing is TERRIBLE. Yet another single of theirs that I could not make it all of the way through. They are trying to sound too much like and arena rock band with this album.....and that's not a good thing. Glad I will be saving money by not purchasing this!

I had really low expectations for this song after reading all the bitching in this thread. I totally disagree - I love the energy, and will be rooting for this one to succeed.

I really dig this song too! I'm not a Lady A fan, but this one and "Bartender" really agree with me.
Lady A is one of those artists that I would be a fan of if I was a fan of their music. Most of their music I'm not that fond of, but "Love Don't Live Here" and "A Woman Scorned" remain favorites. That's more the style I like from them...so "Bartender" and "Freestyle" remind me of the Lady A I thought I would love when they first started out. I should probably give this album a chance.

I like this, especially the chorus. Sometimes their music can sound a bit same-y to me but this sounds different from their other singles. It has a bit of a Little Big Town-vibe to me.
