I know this doesn't jive with the flow of this thread, but I wonder how much longer Capitol and Lady A plan on pushing this given the struggling path it's been on. I may end up rooting for them again if they release the title track or LSOL next. The former sounds like an obvious hit and the latter may just be a selfish choice, but I think it could work on radio despite the bombastic production.

"She Is" is a very crossover ready song. It would help them get back on AC and maybe the pop charts, which would in turn help with sales. It actually was a song from pop singer/songwriter Ben Rector first.

I think that they could've HAD a big hit with songs like Lie With Me,She Is, 747, Long Stretch Of Love...etc if they had sent them out after Bartender. however with the way Freestyle is preforming I believe any song they send out after this will potentially tank (like Jerrod Niemann, and from the looks of it Rascal Flatts) I like this song as a guilty pleasure but I believe there were much better radio options that, of course, won't see the light of the day which is a shame because I'm one of the few people who liked this album.

Well, Lady Antebellum is still liked a lot more than Jerrod Niemann at Radio. Rascal Flatts is entering the twilight phase of their career where the singles are of diminishing returns (it's a different phase, more like what Diamond Rio, Alabama and Lonestar went through). Lady Antebellum can and will still have hits from this album. "Freestyle" was a bit too risky for the band to release during the winter (I guess). "She Is," "747," "Lie With Me" all could/should do very well. "Freestyle" just didn't connect with fans, for whatever reason.

Yeah, Lady A is a much bigger star in the eyes of radio than Jerrod. Lady A can afford these every now and then misses as singles and Jerrod cannot as evidence by how "Buzz Back Girl" did. By the way, "Freestyle" has not been a total dud other than sales wise. It's still at #21 on MB and #20 on Billboard after 12 weeks and has performed respectively - it's just not moving the needle whatsoever and has not had the climb to make me believe this will make the top 10, which is alarming considering the success of "Bartender".
I don't think "Goodbye Town" was Capitol's fault in it's #11 peak but I do believe "Freestyle" is just because of the much better options on 747. Now Golden had some very good songs you can argue should have been before "Goodbye Town" but after listening to 747, I think it was a big misstep to send this out as single #2. Perhaps the label tried to keep the upbeat theme rolling here and stay away from any sort of slower song like "Goodbye Town" but even still, it just wasn't the best choice.

"Freestyle" was a horrible single choice, but I think they should easily surpass it's performance with another single from the album, provided they peak a much better one. I've only listened to the album once in full so I'm not too familiar with most of the songs on there, but I believe the title track and "Long Stretch of Love" both stood out to me on a record that I recall having few standouts.

I heard this on the radio over the weekend and it barely even sounds like Lady A. They seriously need to top trying so hard. Not impressed.

Lady A totally missed the boat with not releasing "Golden" or even "And The Radio Played". I understand they were following their fans wishes to release more tempo songs after the dismal "Wanted You More". But don't keep releasing the same tempo songs that sound exactly the same (Compass, Bartender, Freestyle). I definately agree with poster above, they are trying way to hard to be something they are not. They should stick to their guns. I actually think they would sound great with a more rootsier, acoustic approach. Maybe even try out Jay Joyce as producer on next album?? I can see them losing alot of momentum after this, and 747 is not an album of good songs IMHO. I think they are capable of much better

I'm watching ESPN behind me here and what do I hear? I hear Lady Antebellum being interviewed on the field of the upcoming national championship game.
Their performing the National Anthem before the game between Oregon and Ohio State.
I thought to myself, "Boy that sounds like Hillary Scott's voice" and it turns out that it was. Lol

Not to totally derail this thread, but bad call on Oregon wearing all gray uniforms in the most important game in the program's history. I'm still picking them to beat the Buckeyes. Sorry Hillary. ;)

I just listened to this for the second time ever, and I think I hated it even more the second time around. I can't even pinpoint why it's so grating, it just...is.

"Freestyle" is still being outsold on a weekly basis by songs like "Chicken Fried", "Cruise", "Wagon Wheel", "Dirt Road Anthem", "Bottoms Up", "Roller Coaster", "Sunshine & Whiskey", and "Bartender". "Freestyle" is at #76 on iTunes Country, "Bartender" is at #41.
I'm not sure if I see this getting into the top 15. It's reached #17 on the current Billboard chart, but no one will go recurrent this week (unless RaeLynn drops off again), and both Jake Owen and Dierks Bentley are starting to close in. And after those guys, there's Sam Hunt, ZBB, and Miranda..

Now for me, I like this one. I've never been a huge fan of Lady A but when this comes on I start humming along instantly. As we've seen with a handful of songs already this year, I don't think their chart success will be based solely on how the digital sales are (nor do I think anyone here is suggesting such a thing) but this may be to Lady A like "Payback" was to Rascal Flatts. I do think they would recover much better after this one, should it continue struggling.
That being said, the video is one of my favorite music videos in a long time, for no specific reason at all.

Honestly, I'm kind of surprised about the lack of struggling this song has had so far consider some of the worst sales from a big name act I can remember. I know this chart run has been considerably slower, but I think they were going to be in for a slower ride anyways with the amount of big names releasing songs's right now. I think they can get this top 15, maybe even as high as 11 or 10, but that's the ceiling. It's still early on enough in it's chart run that they can keep it afloat for a few more weeks, but with such little return of them promoting this, you almost have to wonder if it would be in their best interest to pull this song and give something to radio that features more of the traditional Lady A sound, similar to what Eric Church did by letting Cold One die and releasing Talladega.

I unfortunately have to agree, no way this one is going top 10. It's a shame for Lady A but clearly Freestyle didn't connect with radio listeners and i can see why, imo they tried to record a fun song, uptempo, but the result was mediocre at best. Anyway, this is the song's 14th week on the chart: does anyone know how long it took Goodbye Town to peak before plummetting? I hope they move on and release either the titletrack '747', 'She Is' or 'Long Stretch Of Love'.

The release of this song as a radio single is a head scratcher. It was clear before the Album even came out that this song was not connecting with even Lady A fans much less the general listener. They started playing this and LSOL in concerts and the comments on youtube and twitter were clearly an indication that folks preferred LSOL over this one at the time. This song didn't even sell well when the Album was released.
I expect Lie With Me to be the next single.

I'm not totally sure they'll go with another single from 747. I mean, they should, but they way that they dumped Golden so quickly doesn't make me sure of anything.

This song climbing up the charts so slowly is no surprise; it's simply not a very good song, IMO.

I need this to peak so we can move on to "Lie With Me" smashing.

I need this to peak so we can move on to "Lie With Me" smashing. Considering how this performing, (at least digitally), combined with how they treated the "Golden" era, I'd be shocked if they released another single from this album. Usually, when a single really struggles, it's rare to get a smash hit with the next single, especially later in the era. Lady A is an oddity, though, because it seems like every single time they regain traction, they slip again.

I doubt they'll move on to another album already. Just because they did that once with "Golden" doesn't mean they will repeat the same decision over and over again. This still has an outside shot of reaching the top 10, so it's not like it's a complete bomb at radio. If Lady A was a newer artist then I would see them moving on certainly (much like Hunter Hayes is). But they're still pretty big names, and "Bartender" proved to be a huge hit for them, so I don't see why they should panic yet. Bigger name artists can survive one single struggling (like ZBB did with The Wind, Jason Aldean after 1994, Jake Owen after Days of Gold) just as long as the next single choice is solid. As stated by many on here, the title track and "Lie With Me" seem to be very popular with Lady A's fan base, and could restore the momentum for them.

There's no chance that Lady A moves on from 747 after two singles. The album was just released on September 30! And there's still some really good radio-friendly material left. "She Is" and "Lie With Me" both sound like surefire hits with some crossover potential too.

Yeah, I agree with zjames and dm2081 that Lady A will not move on to another album too quickly. I expect this to peak in March/April before another single from 747 is released.

This reaches a new peak of #16 on Billboard tonight, but there is a nearly 6 million gap between #15 and #16. Even with Kenny Chesney (and possibly Chase Bryant) going recurrent next week, I'm not so sure that this will get any higher. Zac Brown Band, Jake Owen and Dierks Bentley are all within catching distance of them (and all probably will next week), and then Sam Hunt is right behind them. If they are going to get any higher than #16, it will probably take a few weeks.

I dont' see Capitol quitting on this one any time soon.
