News of Aretha covering this was out there months ago. Billboard ran a piece on the set and said she had recorded this, Midnight Train To Georgia, Last Dance, and Whats Love Got To Do With It for the album.

Last Dance, and Whats Love Got To Do With It for the album. No disrespect to Queen Aretha, but it will be extremely hard to top Donna Summer and Tina Turner's original studio and live recordings of those songs.

It's actually impossible - those women own those songs and their versions will always be definitive.

Kiiii. This is gonna be fun to see! But Clive is a mess for trapping her with some of these ballads when Ree Ree wanted to shake ha booty to "Bootylicious" and "Touch My Body" instead.

I mean why are all of these Pop forum gerls coming over here hating on the Queen though?
Cause as far as I know Ms. Franklin has influenced EVERYBODY in this industry. So while y'all in the Pop forum still have your nose stuck up Adull's punani like it's 2011, over here we respect a b*tch who has left her mark in every possible way. Be nice or leave.
If it bothers you, don't come over here to trash a legend. Move on.

Can't wait to hear this. I'd love to see her get another career resurgence, as it's been way too long since "A Rose is Still a Rose."

She is a bona fide legend, the Queen of mother-f**king soul, no one's denying that. But I'm also not going to deny that her voice sounds like complete shit these days and imagining her wheezy, shrill and cracked voice singing this does not thrill me in the slightest. It's an iconic song, one from only a few years ago at that, so I don't think this is going to do her any favors. But who knows? I could be wrong, they might have worked some studio magic and completely rearranged the track. Fingers crossed this isn't a disaster.

Aretha is the one digging through 2011 to release a first single under the guide of someone even older and more out of touch than she is. Shouldn't you save your shitty stan slang strength for the Mariah threads? This entire thing is so lol-worthy--I can't even wait to hear the finished product. Is it even legal to record and release someone else's song without their permission (should that tidbit be true)?

Shouldn't you save your s**tty stan slang strength for the Mariah threads? Why are you (and a few others) so bothered about what or how I write though all of a sudden? Tell me how you really feel because I've been feeling the passive aggression and it's not cute.

I'm in and out these days so I have no idea what you're talking about, I couldn't even tell you what your posting style is outside of the one post I commented on...not particularly passive aggressively. People in this thread have raised an eyebrow at this seriously bizarre choice for an album launch from Aretha and you kind of lost your shit whilst calling everyone bothered, which just adds to the comicality of all of this.

You know very well what I'm talking about, otherwise you wouldn't be referring to the "Mariah threads".

The vocals aren't mastered well. Seems like they based the production on the Villa Remix of the original.

Oh that cover of Rolling In The Deep is awful. Some parts are even scary....the first "deep", the whole chorus after the second verse and pretty much the last half of the song. She oversings despite no longer having the voice to do so. But maybe she's going for the scary theme anyway judging by the grossly photoshopped cover with the crazy eye shadow.
I was actually optimistic that this would have been a decent cover.
