The live was actually OK. Cissy seemed so unbothered.

OMG. Cissy was the STAR!! Aretha sounds like total shit. One of my favorite singers ever, but it's a wrap now. The voice is GONE.

Annie Lennox and Diana Krall also have covers albums coming out the same day. And Bette Midler has one later this year as well! Wow, such a year for female divas doing cover albums!

Aretha Franklin is dropping a surprise album on September 30th. A covers album of songs by other divas. Reportedly the first single is a cover of "Rolling in the Deep." I know it got pushed back and we now have a single, but I don't understand how that was going to be a surprise album anyway if we knew about it a couple weeks before it was released? The terms "surprise album" is way overused. It's Roger Friedman's fault if we knew LOL

Annie Lennox and Diana Krall also have covers albums coming out the same day. Diana pushed back to February 3rd since she's battling pneumonia. As for her performance, she sounded like she had gargled with collard green juice right before stepping on stage (as she has sounded for the last decade). I see why Cissy stood there unbothered.

She actually sounded Great towards the end of the performance when she went into aint No mountain High Enough. her voice isnt gone. Her live version is so much better than the studio version. Someone should be fired for that.

I was still hoping "Touch My Body" would make the tracklist. Instead we get "No One" cause Clive is Always trying to squeeze Alicia everydamnwhere. Aretha picked Queen Licia to be on here album

That "version" stirred my bowels instead of my soul.

Now I love me some jazz and swing, but Aretha has completely lost the sentiment of Nothing Compares 2 U in her interpretation of the song. I was going to say it is emotionless, but that isn't true - it's joyful ?!!

Her version of I Will Survive wouldn't have been awful without that interpolation of Survivor in the middle. Totally unnecessary. It's like they had 4 demos laying around and just spliced them all together.

Does Aretha Franklin want to perform at VH1 Divas? More importantly, does CISSY want to perform at VH1 Divas?

I don't know why I thought "A Rose Is Still a Rose" album sold a lot more than that. I could have sworn it was a million plus selling album. Aretha hasn't had a "hit album" in a minute. I expected this one to open better too (like 50K range). I wonder if the label kept the September 30th date then would it have opened even less?

I was wondering who would selling more… Aretha or Annie Lennox… looks like it will be Annie by a small margin.

She's had plenty of Gold albums but only one non-compilation R&B album (Who's Zoomin' Who?) and one Gospel album (Amazing Grace, 2x) go Platinum.

I would expect Aretha Franklin, someone who people puts above good and bad to actually be a heavy album seller. It really surprised me how little commercial success she ever had in her resumé. And this album deserve this type of sales. It is atrocious
