I thought I'd do something fun here, and go back to 5 years ago, and be doing this until 2011. I'm gonna write the names of the artists that appeared on the Billboard year end charts for 2009 and some of the 2010 list that were big at the time, but have all but disappeared since, or were relevant for a long time, but haven't had a hit song since. and for those that are chart experts or following these musicians, you write what they're up to these days musically, and why their music never really caught on, I think it would be cool to know.
Here are the names for this particular list:
Maxwell (did he retire or is he still making music?)
Michael Franti (had one hit and then disappeared, what happened to him?)
Rob Thomas (had a long career as the lead singer of Matchbox 20 and a solo artist, but hasn't really touched the Top 40 since 2009)
Jesse McCartney (big for a while, but once the decade ended, so did his time in the spotlight)
Iyaz (had one major hit in "Replay" and that pretty much it)
Kristina DeBarge (the offspring and least successful of the DeBarge family had one hit song and disappeared, what happened to her?)
Green Day (one of the biggest bands of both the 90's and 2000's decade. but the 2010's haven't been kind to them)
The Dream (the producer/singer, haven't heard much from him in years)
Asher Roth (was supposed to be the next Eminem. that didn't happen, so where is he now?)
Fabolous (disappeared from relevance after "Throw It In The Bag", still see him from time to time, but not really on the radio anymore)
Boys Like Girls (had like several hits in a span of 3 years)
The Veronicas (never really caught on in the U.S.)
Colbie Caillat (hasn't touched the Top 40 since "Fallin' For You)
Mario (what happened to him?)
Daughtry (haven't heard much from them in recent years)
Jordin Sparks (disappeared of the face of the Earth after "Battlefield", she's now dating Jason Derulo, but what else is she doing now?)
Nickelback (where the biggest rock band in the 2000's, now nowhere to be seen, at least as far as chart success goes.)
Colby O'Donis (was a thing in the late 2000's, now I don't know what he's up to)
Pussycat Dolls (they broke up, but what's Nicole up to?)
Keri Hilson (haven't heard from her in 3 years)
50 Cent (i barely ever hear from him anymore)
Akon (was everywhere and pretty much inescapeable in the mid and late-2000's, was one of the main catalysts of the auto-tune trend of the late '00s alongside T-Pain, now I he's nowhere to be seen)
Sean Kingston (was very popular for a while, now not really relevant)
Kevin Rudolf (he's a producer ,did he stop making songs?)
3 Oh! 3 (don't have fond memories of them, but what happened to those guys?)
Kid Cudi (seemed to have promise and then disappeared from the spotlight)
Shinedown (their only Top 40 song was "Second Chance", where are they now?)
Jay Sean (seemed poised for stardom, but after a couple of hits, we never really heard from him again)
Soulja Boy (had a fluke success with his second album after being projected to be a one-hit wonder, his third album flopped and then he disappeared. Considered by some the worst rapper of all time. What's he up to these days?)
Jamie Foxx (hearing he's releasing a new album soon, is this true? when I think of him I see him as an actor and comedian, not a singer, though he's got a nice voice when he's not using auto-tune)
Kings Of Leon ("Use Somebody" was massive, and it seemed like they were going to be around for a while, but I haven't really heard much from them since. Are they still around?)
All-American Rejects ("Gives You Hell" was a major hit, and then they were pretty much gone)
Jason Mraz (is another Top 40 hit in the cards for him after "I Won't Give Up" in 2012?)
The Black Eyed Peas (are they getting back together soon? other than Will.i.am., I haven't heard anything from Fergie, and the other guys for a while)
