From Kenny's Facebook: This is his 24th Billboard #1, so he must have two Mediabase-only #1's, or perhaps maybe the Gavin chart? sabre14, do you know if any of his #2 or #3-peaking Billboard hits got to #1 on Mediabase? These are the 24 Billboard #1's I have for Kenny: 01 She's Got It All 02 How Forever Feels 03 You Had Me From Hello 04 Don't Happen Twice 05 The Good Stuff 06 There Goes My Life 07 When The Sun Goes Down (f/ Uncle Kracker) 08 Anything But Mine 09 Living In Fast Forward 10 Summertime 11 Beer In Mexico 12 Never Wanted Nothing More 13 Don't Blink 14 Better As A Memory 15 Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven (f/ The Wailers) 16 Down The Road (f/ Mac McAnally) 17 Out Last Night 18 The Boys Of Fall 19 Somewhere With You 20 Live A Little 21 Reality 22 Come Over 23 American Kids 24 Til It's Gone

I think "When I Closed my Eyes" and "That's Why I'm Here" both topped mediabase.

Believe it or not, none of Kenny's #2 hits in the 2000's got to #1 on R&R/MB.

jhomes87 does "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" count for Kenny? I'll answer. No. The Kenny and Tim version wasn't played til well into that songs chart run and both were never credited.

It's a damn shame some of Kenny's best work never made it to #1: "I Go Back" and "You Save Me" specifically

+ "You and Tequila" and "El Cerrito Place" Considering these two are the only ones I don't change the station for, I concur.

"I Go Back" is probably my favourite Kenny song (and "You And Tequila" is right up there), so it would've been nice if both of those had made it to #1 - especially over some of those that did.

Yeah, I think "I Go Back" is also my all-time favorite Kenny song, although "Somewhere With You", "You And Tequila", "El Cerrito Place", "What I Need To Do" (from his 2000 Greatest Hits album), and a few others are up there as well. "I Go Back" is probably the one Kenny song I hear the most on the radio yet. I didn't follow the charts back when it was out, but when I found out that it only peaked at #2, I was flabbergasted. Nowadays it doesn't really bother me, though, because "I Go Back" was obviously bigger than the vast majority of #1 hits that we've ever had on country radio over the last 20+ years. It put up some huge, huge airplay numbers and still gets loads of recurrent airplay. I expect "Til It's Gone" to fade pretty quickly. I don't mind that it made it to #1--I've certainly heard it a lot on the radio over the last few months--but I would've been okay with a #2 or #3 peak for this, and for songs like "Talladega", "I See You", and "Something In The Water" to have a chance to spend more time at the pinnacle.

What, no love for well-written and 6-week #1 How Forever Feels? I still enjoy listening to that one. Also I liked That's Why I'm Here, and I'll happily endorse You And Tequila. My all-time favorite Kenny song is Better As A Memory, but that's one I don't expect everybody else to agree on.
Seems to me, looking over his body of work, that he gets credit for improving the level of his performances (and his song choices) over the years. It isn't common for someone to make it to radio superstardom by singing mediocre material mediocrely, and then finding in himself the drive to improve. But that's a matter of opinion.
I'm glad 'Til It's Gone made it to #1, even if it's not his best.

Kenny has some great songs in his catalog, but "Better As A Memory" is certainly one of my favorites. I also love "Don't Happen Twice", "Beer In Mexico", "Come Over" and "Somewhere With You". Honestly, It would be easier to make a list of my least favorite songs by him (only a few that qualify) than it is to list my favorites.

My all-time favorite Kenny song is Better As A Memory, but that's one I don't expect everybody else to agree on. I forgot how great a song this was. Scooter Carusoe is a fantastic songwriter. "'Til It's Gone" grew on me as its chart run went on, so I'm glad it got to #1 too. Sometimes I'm a sucker for these songs from him like "Live A Little" and "Living In Fast Forward".

I also love "Better As A Memory" (and "How Forever Feels", "Come Over", "Somewhere With You" and especially "Beer In Mexico"). Another one of his that I love (and is probably my second favourite of his, after "I Go Back") is "Never Wanted Nothing More". I definitely agree that radio success improved Kenny's material, rather than caused it to deteriorate like we've seen time and time again from other artists.

My all-time favorite Kenny song is Better As A Memory, but that's one I don't expect everybody else to agree on. Even with the mixed metaphor in the second verse (roulette wheel/losing hand)? Other than that, I would definitely rank this one pretty high up. I also agree with you that Kenny does seem to be an artist who "gets it", and that he seems to have his quality improve considerably with his chart success. I can't imagine the Kenny of even 2005, much less 2015, recording "Fall in Love" (and I especially can't imagine 2005!Kenny or 2015!Kenny singing that song out of his nose, as 1995!Kenny did). I'm glad 'Til It's Gone made it to #1, even if it's not his best. Kenny seems to have a thing for low-impact #1's doesn't he? Songs like "Beer in Mexico", "Live a Little", and this one have had some of the lowest Hot 100 showings for #1 country airplay hits that I've ever seen. And then there are songs like "Out Last Night" or "The Boys of Fall" that only spend like 12 weeks on the charts, disappear, and are never heard from again. I can't even remember what "The Boys of Fall" sounds like, nor can I remember a single lyric from it. It's one of the only #1's since 2004 that managed to completely escape my consciousness (the other being "Made in America" and "Love Me If You Can" by Toby Keith, "Take Me There", "Stand", and "Here" by Rascal Flatts, "Without You" by Keith Urban, and "Over" by Blake Shelton). Heck, I can't even remember the last time I heard "Never Wanted Nothing More", and that was hardly "low impact".

'I Go Back' couldn't dislodge 'Live Like You Were Dying' from its 10-week stay @ #1 @ R&R/Mediabase, while 'Have You Forgotten?' kept 'Big Star' out of the R&R penthouse if memory serves.

You are correct. In Billboard, Kenny Chesney peaked at #2 for two weeks with Big Star. The chart where he was at the runner up position: BILLBOARD TOP TEN FOR WEEK ENDING APRIL 26, 2003: 1. Have You Forgotten-Darryl Worley-DreamWorks 2. BIG STAR-KENNY CHESNEY-BNA 3. That'd Be Alright-Alan Jackson-Arista 4. She's My Kind Of Rain-Tim McGraw-Curb 5. Concrete Angel-Martina McBride-RCA 6. Brokenheartsville-Joe Nichols-Universal South 7. Raining On Sunday-Keith Urban-Capitol 8. I Believe-Diamond Rio-Arista 9. What A Beautiful Day-Chris Cagle-Capitol 10. Three Wooden Crosses-Randy Travis-Warner Bros./Word Is there any official numbers for how much this song has sold recently? I could not find any numbers for Til It's Gone, but Kenny Chesney's previous hit, American Kids sold 10,000 for the week and is nearing 1.2 million in sales, so you (and everyone else) can say Til It's Gone, with its #1 ranking is a poor selling single.

^^^^^Why couldn't this week's top 10 be as flat-out superb as that stellar collection from a mere dozen years ago?

I agree. While digital sales have been down overall, the sales for this are too low for a #1 airplay hit by an A-list country superstar.

Again, this reminds me of Beer in Mexico, Live a Little, or Reality. All of those had obscenely low Hot 100 rankings and sales for a #1 country hit. Just left to be swept under the rug and forgotten, much like Boys of Fall.

It's at #45 on iTunes Country right now, but get this: "American Kids" is still at #34. I checked periodically, too, and I'm pretty sure "Til It's Gone" never passed "American Kids" even once on its journey up the charts. Long after it went recurrent, AK has continued to out-sell TIG each and every week.

I still hear "Beer In Mexico" (Y2Kountry loves it). "Live A Little" I've heard a handful of times since it fell off. But I don't think I've heard "Reality" one time since mid 2012.

Honestly the stations around here may play "Beer in Mexico" more than ANY of his other songs. Doesn't bother me, I like that one.
Haven't heard "Boys of Fall" or "Reality" on the radio ONCE in the past three years.
It's just amazing that radio can love a song that just doesn't connect as well with listeners. Personally, I loved "Til It's Gone", but it definitely wasn't an event that I saw people rushing to download like "American Kids". For what it's worth (not much), one time this past week on iTunes, "Til It's Gone" was a whopping one spot ahead of "American Kids".

I think "Beer In Mexico" is actually a pretty big fan favorite of Kenny's. Almost everyone I know who moderately listens to Kenny is pretty keen on that song. If it hadn't been the fifth single from The Road And The Radio, I think it could have been much bigger. But I definitely still hear that one a decent amount, and it's one of my favorites from him.
