I'm embarrassed to admit I've never heard the original, but I'm really liking the Band Perry's take on this song!
It's so different from what is popular on radio right now; I love the simple, pretty melody mixed with rich lyrics- something you don't hear everyday (at least on country radio)! I'm going to have to look into more of Glen Campbell's catalog!!

If Kimberly Perry can give a restrained vocal, the Band Perry can redo Southern Nights.

Are there any other songs of his I must hear? Or should I just do the whole catalog? I'll have to check out Southern Nights as well.

TBP is just as comfortable and happy sitting in the floor in a circle, just the three of them playing acoustically and singing, as they are on stage with a full band rocking a packed house. They can play many kinds of music and play them well, and they enjoy every minute of it. Such musically intrinsic satisfaction is lost with all things corporate. God bless those who can make music they truly enjoy that others truly enjoy with them.

I just did a special music survey for this song on Rate The Music (it was the only song in the survey).
So it seems that the label is trying to gather feedback on this one to see whether or not it merits a full-fledged push to radio.
I love the song, but given the nature of it and its release (it's a cover from a movie soundtrack), I definitely have reservations as to how radio will treat this one.
Kimberly sounds so at home singing this song, and the production is just beautiful. I hope it can go at least top 20 but it might be seen as more of a "side" single to bridge the gap between TBP albums.

I would say check out "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" , "Wichita Lineman" , "Galveston" & his excellent duet with Steve Wariner "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle"...

I like it a lot, too, but that's how I think it'll be treated (and essentially, I guess that's really what it is). I could see it performing similarly to the Zac Brown Band's "All Alright".

This is nice. Not one of my favorites, but definitely nice to hear every now and then! :)

I actually think this was the best part of the CMAs - The Band Perry, singing nice and soft Gentle on my Mind, perfection!! :)

I love the way Kimberly opened the song with a slow tempo before they kicked it up a notch. They shine brightly running around on stage with all the energy they possess, but Kimberly showed a very different side with this performance that we haven't seen in awhile. Her vocals tonight were just stunning and she looked AMAZING.

The Band Perry is headed to Death Valley to film a video for 'Gentle On My Mind'.
Source: From Lois (Lewis) White's Facebook. "Well how 'bout that!?!? I'm on a flight with my Band Perry kids! They're headed to Death Valley to shoot the video for "Gentle On My Mind"! I feel like we're all back on radio tour, saving seats for each other."

The Band Perry make some of the best music videos, so I am so looking forward to that! I suppose with them shooting a video, that hopefully bodes well for the chart prospects of this single not being treated like mere filler between albums.

Glad to see I'm not the only one bothered by her singing about a beard. Also , did Huff produce this? Great stuff.

If the Band Perry can climb another two, they will match Glen Campbell's peak.
They debut on the mongrel chart at #35. They also debut at #29 on the digital sales chart with 11,000.

They have now surpassed Glen Campbell's version on the charts. (#29 this week)

The Band Perry's "Gentle On My Mind" has been nominated for a Grammy as Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group. Congratulations to the entire TBP camp for the recognition.

Wow, what a well done video. I am guessing BMLG is going to continue to push this for a time.

Wow, what a well done video. I am guessing BMLG is going to continue to push this for a time. Eh, I don't know about that. It's been barely moving for the last few weeks. I really feel as if the label just decided to release this to get something "new" from them on the radio while they were between albums. It doesn't seem like it's getting "full promotion" or being treated like a "normal single" by Republic Nashville. It's a shame, though, because this actually might be my all-time favorite single from them. It's at least right up there with "If I Die Young" and "Postcard From Paris". I think the video is incredible as well. Going top 30 with a cover of a country classic is nothing to sneeze at, but I would love nothing more than for this one to somehow become a top 10 hit.

I can't see this lasting all that much longer, but it is nice to see a song sounds like this making the top 30 in the current climate.
I wouldn't be surprised to see some information come out about their third album early in the new year, coinciding with the lead single being released soon. It wouldn't really surprise me to see this start to fall early in the new year. It's done very well for what it is, though.

I'm really not ready to see this go, its one of my favorite songs out there right now. I realize its done pretty well for what it is but i just fear a peak of where its at now could hurt any mometum for TBP. Of course i'm no expert on this sort of thing so i hope i'm wrong

With the recent Grammy nod for the song, and the fact that the label spent money for a video that just got released, wouldn't surprise me to see a continued push for this one.

Looks like there's a decent chance that the label will keep pushing GOMM after the first of the year, since the release of the video seems to be doing some good. Of course nothing is etched in stone, but the chances look good.

This would be back-to-back bullet-less weeks for TBP on Billboard, so this week's chart (probably will come out tomorrow night) will likely be the last appearance for "Gentle On My Mind". It got as high as #29 a few weeks back.
