I just don't see a million for Taylor this time around. There is a reason no artist has ever opened with over one million sold three times. I am thinking somewhere between 7-900k realistically.

Let's hope!
I'm not sure about 450k for Jason Aldean.
And we've had very little talk about Christmas albums this year...
I'm sure those as.sholes with Duck Dynasty will do well again.

I just don't see a million for Taylor this time around. People said the same thing about Red, and lots of people didn't think she'd hit 1m with Speak Now, either. 'Shake It Off' is showing that she's just as popular as ever, if not more so, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if she manages 1m again. It's a definite possibility.

Taylor, she's able to put it. Now she got the publicity with Subway. Soon we will start hearing new songs She can make 1 million, i know it ;_;

It is possible, but I wouldn't be surprised if she falls a bit short. Like, 900K instead of 1 million+

I won't be shocked either way. I'd guess 850-925k. SIO's strong performance is promising though.
Wow @ 500k for Kendrick. He's got a ton of momentum but that is a big prediction in 2014. Maybe he's gearing for Black Friday release?
Country (Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line) and Rap (Lil' Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj) have holiday seasons coming up!

We really have no reason to believe that Taylor *won't* sell 1 million first week.

We really have no reason to believe that Taylor *won't* sell 1 million first week. She has no song promoted to country radio for the first time in her career album opening.

Album sales are down cause you can stream them? In that case, Red was released to streaming like 1 year after (and even more) the release date

Kendrick's not going to do Drake numbers IMHO. He's popular but nowhere near his level. I think 300k is a more reasonable estimate for him.
Also I can't see 1D ever topping "Midnight Memories"'s opening. They don't have Black Friday and their lead single isn't doing nearly as well as previous leads have.

How the hell is Kendrick Lamar going to open with over 500k? A quick look on wiki and his highest-charting single on the rap chart was f**kin Problems which hit #2 and even that wasn't his own song so I don't get where the 'he has huge momentum' statement is coming from. I remember his album having legs though and selling like 1.5 million so that might be it.

I think Taylor can do it, but it may take some clever marketing/pricing on the part of Big Machine to seal the deal

That's a relatively low projection for Garth Brooks.
I'm sure Swift's label will do all it can to snag a 1m+ opening.

One Direction is an interesting case. The pre-orders for FOUR seem really hot, but Steal My Girl doesn't seem to be selling nearly as well as Best Song Ever.
Kind of on board with the Garth projection. The buzz over his comeback hasn't been particularly strong, and his single, while on track to be successful, is moving slower than I'd imagine anyone expected.
Kanye seems a bit optimistic, will probably depend on singles. I could totally see 500K for Kendrick.

The new Garth single is awful. You're right. I just hope Garth Brooks' second RCA single can blow the roof off.

Soon we will start hearing new songs She can make 1 million, i know it ;_; so now instead of a pizza with your album you can get a sub? taylor promoting healthy. first diet coke (actually not healthy, but that's a different topic) and now subs instead of pizza. such a kind soul. :'(

Those numbers are way low for Jason & FGL. I Think Taylor will hit a million first week.

it'll be pretty amazing if she does, 3 in a row. that's gotta kill the egos of other artists.

Just realized that U2 is missing from this list. There is a reason for that (I wouldn't be surprised if their album never gets the proper release after the huge backlash it has got)

That's a relatively low projection for Garth Brooks. I'm sure Swift's label will do all it can to snag a 1m+ opening. Will there be another Target exclusive deal? If so, Target is desperate to win customers back after the hacking issue so they will do what they can to drive traffic to bring in the Taylor faithful. Except aggressive pricing - they need to get customers back in store and this is the type of product that bring non-Target (or former) customers in. (Count me in that group.)

If they were releasing Idina Menzel's Christmas album in November instead of October, it could probably open with 200+, but I guess they figure its sales will be strong through the holidays and aren't dependent on a big first week.

The backlash that never was...
If anything is going to hurt their sales its that casual U2 fans already have the album and wont have incentive to buy a different version. But they obviously don't care about the sales of it or else they wouldn't have agreed to potentially giving away millions and millions of copies for "free" to consumers. They've already gotten their paycheck from Apple, the sales once it is actually released will just be icing.
