I think 1D will sell very well through the holidays but this may be there last Huge selling year without a huge hit. They put out cd's so frequently and their main audience is growing up fast. After their first or second album, I remember they signed a 3 or 4 album deal. The frequent release schedule is on purpose. I think this album is either the last or second to last to fulfilling their contract. They'll probably either put out one more studio set after this and/or do a Compilation. Their fifth (next) regular studio album fulfills the contract, and will almost definitely be out in Q4 2015

The new 1D single is pretty poor, seems that they have reached their peak already.

That's certainly a very low number for Carrie Underwood's first greatest hits CD. If that number holds true (around that, anyway), you can bet the Earth WILL stop turning.

750k for Tay sounds right about in line with what I was expecting. :)

Except when they overestimate. Did you see their projection for Lady A and Blake?

I think 75k would be stellar for Carrie . Greatest hits albums aren't going to open as high as studio albums

I would think 75 thousand would be pretty good as well for a Carrie Underwood Gh's package as well. I'm sure it will sell steadily through the holidays and then some. I could see it easily selling like Pinks. I believe some were surprised by her opening number's but it ended up selling very well.

Kanye West still able to pull in decent numbers? I'm surprised! I definitely think that number is optimistic. His last album did less than 300K, if I recall. And he has far less momentum now than he did then. I guess they're banking on a more traditional effort--and a legitimate radio single--keeping him in the mix this time?

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6296377/taylor-swifts-1989-sales-forecast-grows Taylor Swift's '1989' Sales Forecast GrowsBy Keith Caulfield | October 23, 2014 How much will Taylor Swift's 1989 sell in its first week? It's still too early to know if it could hit the milestone million-sold mark, but its forecast is rising notably. At present, industry sources are forecasting that 1989 (due Oct. 27 on Big Machine Records) could sell between 800,000 and 900,000 copies in its first week (ending Nov. 2). That would easily tally the single largest sales week for any album since March of 2013, when Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience debuted with 968,000 sold in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. (1989 would then also likely debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, giving Swift her fourth chart-topper.) 1989's current sales outlook is an upgrade from the 750,000 mark that prognosticators estimated a week ago (as reported in the Oct. 25 issue of Billboard magazine). Taylor Swift Releases Official '1989' Tracklist The new forecast rises thanks in part to growing preorder numbers, likely associated with the exposure of her new song, "Out of the Woods," which debuts at No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart with 195,000 sold in the week ending Oct. 19. Also helping matters: Swift's new Target ads touting an exclusive version of the album (featuring additional bonus tracks), as well as a new Diet Coke commercial featuring the star. But will 1989 hit the magic million-sales mark? Swift's last two albums, Red (released in 2012) and Speak Now (2010), both sold more than a million copies in their respective first weeks (1.21 million and 1.05 million), making her the only woman to earn two million-selling frames. If 1989 does cross the million threshold, Swift will become the only act to have three million-selling weeks since SoundScan started tracking music sales in 1991. It's a challenge for any act to sell albums today, considering that album sales are down 14 percent compared to a year ago, and down 19 percent versus the same point in 2012 (just before Red was released). In 2014, only one album has sold a million copies so far over the course of the entire year: the Frozen soundtrack, released in late 2013, has sold 3.5 million this year. Comparably, a year ago, there were six million-sellers. What's fairly definite: If 1989 sells close to predictions, it will instantly become the biggest-selling album released in 2014 after only one week on sale. Right now, the biggest seller released in 2014 is Coldplay's Ghost Stories, with 737,000.

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiWILL TAYLOR MAKE (MORE) HISTORY? With preorders surging, forecasts for the chart debut of Taylor Swift's 1989 are pushing expectations higher—with some prognosticators suggesting she could sell as much as 1 million in her first week. If she manages to pull it off, Tay-Tay will become the only artist in history to have three platinum album bows. (10/23p)

Halloween is not like Christmas (or to lesser degrees, Easter, Mother's/Father's Day, etc.), where people buy music to give as gifts. So, it's a holiday that's not really known to have a music "sales rush."

easter isnt a big gift giving holiday either yet album sales always rise. Since people are out and about more especially in stores they might be more inclined to pick it up

I don't live in the US so my knowledge regarding Halloween is strictly taken from movies Anw, isn't Black Friday and Halloween kind of the same thing? Cause if that's the case then Halloween is actually a good period for an album's release since the week of Black Friday (which I know nothing about) always sees a boost in album sales compared to the previous week.

No, they are not the same thing at all. Halloween is in a week and we may see very, very, very mild sales increases, but more just because of traffic in stores being increased. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving a month from now and is when we have the first Christmas sales rush so everything is super discounted and that is when you see mobs of people beating each other up for the sales prices. We see a big bump then. Traditionally, a big album may come out the week of Black Friday or the week before to maximize sales, but Taylor is definitely looking at overall sales here because I can guarantee she will sell HUGE throughout November and December.

I'm really surprised they aren't releasing the vinyl of 1989 next week and waiting til christmas if they are really gunning for that 1 million copies first week. They could use the double sales from her big fans up front, even if it's not a huge number

It could happen :) :) 1989 IS UPON US: As Taylor Swift's 1989 goes live on iTunes and hits retail, early, early reads put her somewhere between 800k and 1 million first week. Stay tuned for updates here at your Taylor Swift album release headquarters as returns come in. In a related story, did you hear that eight seconds of silence, mistakenly released on iTunes Canada as a Taylor track, briefly went to #1 there? Amazing, eh? www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiGo Taylor!!!

For once, HDD early forecast is underwhelming. Taylor's prediction now stand at 1,3 Million. So much for expecting 800k-1M.
