Every once in a while we need a song to get us through our feelings. I randomly selected inspirational songs from my two favorite divas and paired them up. Pick a song from each group as your fav and rank them.
"Hero"
"Beautiful"
"Make It Happen"
"The Voice Within"
"Anytime You Need A Friend"
"Soar"
"Butterfly"
"Keep On Singing My Song"
"Looking In"
"I'm OK"
"Fly Like A Bird"
"Lift Me Up"

Love me some Mariah, but Christina wins by a landslide for me. "The Voice Within" has gotten me through some really rough times of insecurity and loneliness, honestly.

"The Voice Within" and "Hero" have been especially pertinent lately. But "Butterfly" is essentially my life in song form. It's one of the most beautifully bittersweet songs I've ever heard.
I would add "Fighter" and "Can't Take That Away" to this list as well.

Christina for all. I never listen to Mariah for her inspirational songs, whereas those are some of Christina's best moments.

I don't have to strain , its easy and natural and the words just flows right like velvet butter. Mariah Carey the singer for everything. She was blessed.
Although "Beautiful" was my jam and might be the better song, but let's be real "Hero" is the one that stood the test of time and is more sung and remembered nowadays. The rest all Mariah landslide.

Don't use any of these for inspiration but...
1. Beautiful. Not the same impact with me now as back in the day, but Hero totally sucks so. 2. The Voice Within. Barely--this is sappy and Make It Happen is painfully dates but fun. 3. Anytime You Need A Friend. Those. Vocals. 4. Butterfly. Great Mariah track versus Stripped filler. Easy. 5. I'm OK. Heartbreaking and a refreshing change of vocal pace. 6. Lift Me Up. The melody is gorgeous--she sounds really lovely in the studio in spite of sounding like those notes are just barely there. Fly is good, but just never grabbed me the way it did for most fans.

Mariah on all of these except the first one. I love both "Beautiful" and "Hero" but I have to give it to "Beautiful". It's easily my favorite Christina song.

"Looking In" isn't exactly inspirational..
That said, Mariah for all.

I love Christina, but I HATE the album version of "Lift Me Up."
The s*hit production, no emotion behind the vocals, ugh. An atrocity.
Ironically, this is my second favorite live performance of hers, though:

I love the electro-vibe of the album version but I disagree that it lacks emotion. I think it's one of her most emotive songs but I'll agree that the "stripped" down version conveys it more. I always thought LMU should have been the second single considering what she was going through at the time. They did at least submit it, along with YLM, for Female Pop Vocal.

Ironically, this is my second favorite live performance of hers, though: I also prefer this version. While it is not perfect by any means, something about the way she sings it sounds more emotional than the studio version. Or maybe its because I heard her sing this version first, before the album came out.

Yea this was performed in January 2010 and the album came out in June so I think that's why so many people prefer it to the album version. I have friends that swear to their lives the live version brought them to tears but disappointed in the "processed" version.

My partner is a huge Xtine fan(imagine that with me being a total lamb), and he would play that performance over and over...by the time the album version was heard it just didn't measure the same weight.

Ironically, this is my second favorite live performance of hers, though: The ending tho on the album version is one of my favorite moments on the album. When she hits that, " When you see me crashing, will you lift me even HIGHER." That key change during "higher" is just :'( Also the background vocal layering. Other than that I do agree that it would've worked better in the stripped version presented during it's live premiere.

Well I legit haven't been able to tolerate Hero or Beautiful for years now, so that one's a wash. Otherwise MC for all please.

The Hero vs. Beautiful was one the easiest options for me.
Hero, "schmaltzy" and all is undeniably one of Mariah's signature songs around the globe. She sings it beautifully and with conviction...say what you want about the song but people from all over has been touch by it.
Beautiful is one of my least favorite songs by any artist of all-time. It could've been anyone singing it, including Mariah, and I would still dislike it. And I absolutely cannot stand the video. Barf!
On another note, this poll has my 2 favorite Mariah songs of all-time: AYNAF and Butterfly! :'(
