I expected more for Blake Shelton and Lady Antebellum. Kind of shocked that neither is breaking 100,000 copies this week. Colbie Caillat is really low as well. I wish Tove Lo had done better, but then again she is a newbie in the 2014 sales climate.

The Colbie Caillat devastation... will she even make top 10??? Remember when she had a #1 album in 2009? Damn... They totally butchered her release. She had a viral video going for her and her label could not act in a timely manner. Shame, since the album is really good imo.

Terrible numbers for everyone except Barbra! Nice to see her still being relevant after all these decades.

Half of Colbie Callait's album was already released as an EP. Seems like they made a strategic error in dividing the project up.

If Barbra Streisand can keep Blake Shelton out of the #1 spot, I believe Shelton's reign as C.M.A. Vocalist will end next year (I am expecting him to win it this year). Something is wrong when an artist can top the singles chart twelve consecutive times and it really doesn't resonate with the fans as far as CD sales are concerned.

^A combo of a decline in overall sales and interest in the group, I guess.

I was really hoping that Tove Lo could pull in 30K, since her album is amazing. It's not that much of a stretch even though "Habits" isn't as big as say "Rude". I mean at least beat MAGIC!'s underwhelming album that debuted with 36K.

Their debut album crossed the 2 million mark in 2012, the last number I had for it was 2.058 million in January 2013. Likewise, Own the Night was at 1.8 in June 2013. Their Christmas album has sold over 500,00 copies as well.

YOUR TOP 15: Blake Shelton’s latest, Bringing Back the Sunshine, currently holds a slight edge for next week’s #1, while Barbra Streisand’s Partners remains close behind. As we saw last weekend, anything can happen over the next three days. Here’s how it looks headed into the weekend. 1. Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 85-95k 2. Barbra Streisand (Columbia) 80-90k 3. Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville) 67-72k 4. Prince (Warner Bros.) 40-45k 5. Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga (Columbia/Interscope) 40-45k 6. Kenny Chesney (Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville) 37-42k 7. Maroon 5 (222/Interscope) 25-28k 8. The Script (Columbia) 23-26k 9. Chris Brown (RCA) 23-26k 10. Prince & 3RDEYEGIRL (Warner Bros.) 21-24k 11. Sam Smith (Capitol) 20-23k 12. Frozen (Walt Disney) 19-21k 13. Tove Lo (Island) 18-20k 14. Colbie Caillat (Republic) 18-20k 15. Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 (Hollywood) 17-19k In other news, we're bereft to note the passing of Swino, the Australian feral pig who made news after drinking 18 beers and fighting a cow. RIP, buddy. (10/2p)

The GaGa/Bennett drop is -66-69% which is normal.

Right now "Habits" is bigger than Tove Lo. She has a long way to go before establishing herself as a star. Aside from Iggy, Sam, and 5SOS, all of this year's breakouts are cases of the song being bigger than the artist. I mean, in 2013 the only big artist breakouts were M&RL, Ariana, ID, and Lorde, but we had hits from Icona Pop, Zedd, Avicii, Passenger, Capital Cities, and so many other acts who nobody cared about beyond 1-2 songs.

^ Avicii himself is so much bigger than just "Wake Me Up". I don't know anyone my age who isn't familiar with him or his music.
I don't know if this is the proper place to ask this, but has Soundscan ever released a year end with sales sorted by genre?

"Wake Me Up" is still top 40 on the CHR w/recurrents chart. "Hey Brother" gets almost no recurrent airplay nowadays. And "Addicted To You" was a complete disaster.

Well I'm not arguing that "Wake Me Up" is his biggest hit in the US by far (that's why I mentioned it), but in my experience people seem to be very much aware of Avicii as an act. "Levels" and "Silhouettes" is pretty much club staples.

I'm a bit mad Tove Lo won't go top 10. She's selling less than BANKS who may be just as much of a favorite on the blogs, but has had less radio airplay.
And I'm surprised that Prince's "Musicology" sold so much! I honestly don't remember the era being that big.

This point of view is very limited and overly traditional. He's a HUGE name with pretty much everyone whose aware of popular music and/or dance music today, especially younger crowds (I'd say under 35). Levels had a far, far bigger impact that you would think looking at its chart peaks. Same for Hey Brother to a lesser extent. He might have only had one big hit at radio so far, but his name is fueled by a lot of other stuff. Festivals, endorsements/commercials, etc. Putting him in the same group as acts like Passenger and Icona Pop is not correct. Hell, he's probably out-earning what Lorde, Iggy and Ariana are making from their music careers (Ariana has a higher earning overall though if you count her final Nickelodeon paychecks, but that's a different career).

I thought Aretha released her album this week? It was pushed back to October 21. It's doing VERY well on pre-orders though.

Blake Shelton debuted at #45 with 30k (Platinum). The Dreamer debuted at #8 with 77k (640k to date). Blake Shelton's Barn & Grill debuted at #20 with 39k (Gold). Pure BS debuted at #8 with 48k (Gold). Startin' Fires debuted at #34 with 26k (Gold). Hillbilly Bone debuted at #3 with 71k (254k to date). All About Tonight debuted at #6 with 33k (170k to date). Red River Blue debuted at #1 with 116k (1.134m to date). Cheers, It's Christmas debuted at #52 with 9k (506k to date). Based on a True Story... debuted at #3 with 199k (1.354m to date). Looking at this, it seems that BoaTS' opening should be seen more as an aberration than as a rule (and it also shouldn't be seen as indicative of what his ending number will be). I don't follow Blake's career closely but as long as I can remember, some country fans here have commented on how Blake's sales never quite matched the star status that the country industry tries to thrust upon him. I think the bigger test will be whether he can push Bringing Back the Sunshine to platinum, it seems the demand for him has never been immediate.

PTB- and, Musicology was simply handed to concertgoers upon their entry into the venue. It was thereafter that Billboard changed the rules for album/ticket bundles, to require the consumer to take action to obtain the album.

Industry sources forecast Shelton’s new album, released on Warner Bros. Nashville Records, to sell between 85,000 and 90,000 copies in the week ending Oct. 5. Streisand’s album, however, might sell 85,000 or more as well. Streisand’s all-star duets album debuted at No. 1 two weeks ago, selling 196,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It then fell to No. 2 with 127,000 (down a very modest 35 percent in sales). The new Billboard 200’s top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Oct. 8. Coincidentally, Shelton might help block himself from No. 1: he duets with Streisand on Partners for the song “I’d Want It To Be You.” If Shelton hits No. 1, it will mark his second chart-topper, following 2011’s Red River Blue. Also on tap for a top 10 debut next week: Lady Antebellum's 747 (with perhaps 70,000), Prince’s Art Official Age (40,000) and The Script’s No Sound Without Silence (25,000). Prince released a second album in addition to Art Official Age on Sept. 30, PlectrumElectrum, with the band 3rdEyeGirl. It may debut outside the top 10 with around 20,000. Also eyeing a start outside the top 10: Tove Lo’s debut album, Queen of the Clouds, with maybe 20,000. On SoundScan's Building chart (below), Shelton, Lady Antebellum, Streisand and Prince are Nos. 1-4, respectively. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking — reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants. As for the rest of the Building chart’s top 10, the current Billboard 200 No. 1, Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga's Cheek to Cheek sits at No. 5, while Kenny Chesney’s The Big Revival is No. 6, and The Script and Prince & 3rdEyeGirl are Nos. 7 and 8. Tove Lo is No. 9, while Maroon 5’s V rounds out the top 10. NIELSEN SOUNDSCAN BUILDING CHART Rank LW BB 200 Artist Title 1 NEW Blake Shelton Bringing Back the Sunshine 2 NEW Lady Antebellum 747 3 3 Barbra Streisand Partners 4 NEW Prince Art Official Age 5 1 Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga Cheek to Cheek 6 2 Kenny Chesney The Big Revival 7 NEW The Script No Sound Without Silence 8 NEW Prince & 3rdEyeGirl PlectrumElectrum 9 NEW Tove Lo Queen of the Clouds 10 9 Maroon 5 V The Building Chart reflects the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week (which ends Sunday) as reported by six major merchants: iTunes, Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, Starbucks, Target and Anderson Merchandisers. Billboard estimates that they make up about 85% of all U.S. album sales.

Wow at Barbra's projected hold. It will be interesting to see how this album fairs later on during the holiday season.
