He's had some clunkers in the past few years, but I actually think his musical output on the whole has been a bit better since As Good As I Once Was (or at least a lot of my favorite singles come from the past 7 years or so). The first half of the 2000s was his worst, bar a few great tracks (I Love This Bar, My List, You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This). But the likes of American Soldier, Courtesy of the RW&B, How Do You Like Me Now?! and Who's Your Daddy I just don't care for. Honestly, looking at his career, he seems to have about one great single for every not-so-great one. Very hit-or-miss, imo. But I love him when he's on, so much. I really need to buy some of his music but the fact that he has such a big career makes that task seem so daunting that I've continually put it off.

Best songs since As Good As I Once Was: 1. Big Blue Note 2. A Little Too Late 3. Bullets in the Gun 4. Somewhere Else 5. Made in America
Don't remember Love Me If You Can, God Love Her, and Cryin' for Me Cryin' For Me was Toby Keith's tribute song to his best friend, Wayman Tisdale, who died in May, 2009.

Cue the obligatory joke that he's as good once as he ever was.
I've actually liked most of his output overall, but I can see the complacency at times in his newer stuff. Now if only WATZ would realize that "Stays in Mexico" is NOT THE ONLY THING HE EVER RELEASED...

There's a lot I really like about Toby in the way of tone of his voice, songwriting, attitude, etc. But yeah, there are some misses and it can really go up and down on any given song. I don't think that is recent, back in the day he had his stinkers too.
Though my favorites can be others' stinkers, and vice versa fairly often. Or there is the guilty pleasure category that they can slip in between. On balance I'd give it one in every 4-6 songs that feels like a clear miss to me.
Shut Up and Hold On was enough of a clunker for me for a while. Since and before that, most of them I can live with as songs, or the videos made me laugh, until I get back to the dog song which was just dumb IMO.
I'd be happy if this one does well to keep moving. It got four adds today.

Stop the presses! New peak of #29!
You better celebrate the new peak now cause Toby's song may not having many more new peak weeks to celebrate. "Drunk Americans" lost another 150k in audience today after posting minimal losses every day this week on MB (down 25k in audience since Sunday). With the shutdown almost here, I'll be interested to see if that will be the death blow for this song or will it continue to cling to life come the new year.

It's back with a bullet today with a decent space before anyone seems extremely likely to pass.
I'm not sure how they calculate it right now for recurrency, freeze or not seems like the holiday songs really perturb the chart, and Toby has not had a consistent pattern of fading dramatically with the song. Just not moving very fast.

I hope he can hit top 20 with the next single. This song and video are just awful. Toby hasn't had a top ten since Beers Ago peaked at number six in July 2012. The whole point of the label restructure was really to give him (and other artists) the best shot of getting hits on Show Dog Nashville. This one will still go if they can keep momentum enough for two weeks during the holiday freeze.

What are the chances of this song hitting the top 20? I don't think they are very high at all...a 10% chance, maybe? Toby need to at least double his airplay to even have a chance at cracking the top 20, but this one continues to struggle and just float around in the 27-29 positions on Billboard. A few stations that may have been hesitant to play it due to the "we don't give a rat's ass" line might now choose to play it since there's a radio edit available, but I don't think that will be near enough to get this one moving. I'm expecting this one to last on the chart for only 3-4 more weeks at most. It's so far gotten as high as #27 on Billboard, but I think that will stand as its peak.

I'm actually surprised that this is still hanging on. I thought it would've collapsed already by now. I agree that #27 seems to be its likely peak.

I think there's a 0% chance this makes the top 20 on either chart. Like you said, Toby needs to at least double his audience which ain't gonna happen if the first couple months of this songs chart run is any indication. I expect multiple songs to continue to leap it in the next few weeks if its even still on the charts by that time. The fact its even still charting is a slight shock to me. "Drunk Americans" will likely not get higher than where it currently is which you said as well. Toby's days of getting top 10 hits at radio, for the moment, appear over.

28 28 TOBY KEITH Drunk Americans 1687 1698 -11 9.261 Looks like country radio doesn't give a rat's ass about Toby Keith's new single! May appear to be a small bump but I think this will not touch the top 20. Also, he better stop singing about drinking.

Back in Toby's hay day he could sing about any subject he wanted and it would have gone top 10. Country radio has moved on from him in terms of giving him the A-Lister treatment (other than a hourly debut) and putting his songs in heavy rotation. The fact that is song is called "Drunk Americans" to me has absolutely nothing to do with this. His overall bullet is -11, but he's actually up 115k in audience today while breaking even with spins. That being said, this song has been doing next to nothing since its debut and this will likely not get any higher than it currently is.

I really wish this were doing better. I like this quite a bit and the chart run for this one has definitely been disappointing to witness. The title "35 MPH Town" sounds interesting though, so I'm looking forward to hearing his next single and seeing how that one does. I feel like the radio deal for this one that had it debut way higher than it normally would have really hurt this one. Those deals can work with artists like Luke Bryan or Jason Aldean or whoever, but Toby Keith just can't pull off that kind of start to a single. The slow and steady approach would've helped with this one getting farther up the chart, imo.

^ Toby could decline the hourly debut if he wanted to. He obviously feels that it can help him with his songs and perhaps that shows what little confidence he has in radio's willingness to give him a slow and steady climb up the charts, especially a since its still Show-Dog promoted single.
Overall I agree about the hourly debuts hurting its fair share of artists.

With that last statement, you have ruined his entire discography! Not really. You forgot about Keith's songs about America (I didn't mention that as American Ride and Made in America both reached #1) If he took the drinking songs out of his concerts, he would only sing Should've Been A Cowboy, How Do You Like Me Now, and You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This. After fifteen minutes, it would be time for everyone to go back home.

I think sometimes we exaggerate about the number of his drinking songs.

I'd like to see Drunk Americans to hang in there and move up some higher, not sure how it will fare. I heard it this morning on one of the countdown shows, Toby has a very nice tone to his voice that sounds great over the radio.
To take one setlist posted for last year, below not sure I can count 'em up anywhere close to "Toby only sings about alcohol."
I only get four songs out of 20+ that are straight "drinking" (partying) songs thematically, even throwing in one in which the drug of choice is not alcohol ;) Plus five songs that have beer/alcohol references but are not really about drinking.
Balancing that against 12 songs that are patriotic, funny, chasing or fighting or sad about girls, and other misc. topics.
Interesting that none of these 2014 concert songs are among Toby's 'serious' or romantic songs with the exception of Hope on the Rocks, I guess that's a reflection of keeping the concert energy moving.
drinking/partying theme? Yes // Haven't Had a Drink All Day No // American Ride No // Made in America Partial, also about other vital country themes like trucks and girls and country life // Beers Ago No // I Wanna Talk About Me No // God Love Her Partial - set in a bar but character portraits more than about drinking // Hope on the Rocks Partial - whiskey references but really about the kind of girl he likes // Whiskey Girl Partial - beer references but about things other than beer // Beer for My Horses Partial - alcohol references but about flirting with a girl // Drinks After Work Yes (not alcohol but close enough) // Weed With Willie No - ugh/hate this song but it's not about beer // Get Out of My Car Yes // Red Solo Cup No // Who's Your Daddy? No // As Good as I Once Was Yes, will give this one though strikes me as more about belonging to your neighborhood hangout than alcohol // I Love This Bar No // Should've Been a Cowboy No // How Do You Like Me Now?! No // A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action / Stranglehold (Ted Nugent cover) No // American Soldier No // Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)
Another setlist shows these variations from last summer and no Drinks After Work - none of the three about beer or alcohol.
No // Ballad of Balad No // Who's That Man No // You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This

False alarm guys 29 29 TOBY KEITH Drunk Americans 1733 1608 125 9.317 Still don't see this being a hit. 125 is the bullet of "Drunk Americans"; its now 7 days clear of its bad update the week prior. Toby only has gained .056 in audience today with a 46 spin increase. Its total audience gain since Sunday (the 18th) is 600k. Not bad, as its more than the 200k and 440k increase the past two weeks, but this song is still not really moving. There's nobody going recurrent in the top 30 on MB this week (but that "Shotgun Rider" fiasco makes me weary of "Perfect Storm", lol), so Toby will likely drop 2 more spots to #29 with A Thousand Horses and Zac Brown Band already ahead on the rolling chart.

False alarm guys 29 29 TOBY KEITH Drunk Americans 1733 1608 125 9.317 Still don't see this being a hit. Proof that 1-day updates are often misleading :) And that the bullets aren't really the best thing to look at when it comes to chart progress, since they are so heavily affected by what happened the week before. Like sabre14 said, Toby has had a slightly better week than he's had the last few weeks, but this song still isn't moving that fast. It won't come even close to the top 20, and it probably won't even make the top 25. It would need much higher audience levels to get there, and given that Toby's already burned through almost 15 weeks on the chart, he's running out of time. I can't see this one lasting more than a month more on the charts, and even that might be generous.

Any word on a release date for Toby's new record 35 MPH Town? Hits Daily Double has March 3rd as the release date, but I'd take that with a grain of salt until we get a more official confirmation.
