Why did she make a video that looks exactly like the "All About the Bass" video?

Why did she make a video that looks exactly like the "All About the Bass" video? This is the epitome of a sequel single. Same sound, a reference to the previous hit, and a replica video...

Yeah this is bizarrely similar to the AATB video...the sound being similar I don't mind that much, but they could have at least changed up the video a little.

The good thing about this song being a sequel, is it actually makes "Title" being the followup a much stronger choice. It's more diverse in sound than DFH, and even though DFH is a smash in part to the excellently catchy and clever lyrics, I think "Title" is out and about the most outright catchy song she has.
"Come on gimme dat ti-tle, ti-tle." Strongest hook she has of all the songs she's released.
Lips are Movin makes me feel way better about Title now being released first before DFH.

Title is the best. Things will really start to explode for her, I feel, when that's released.

This is a less catchier version of her previous single. I think I like this marginally better just because I couldn't stand AATB, but Title would have likely been a better choice. I hope that's after this.

this is i think the HP ad. not that much of Meghan singing though the background beat plays throughout.

I hope that's after this. I don't think so. I think Tittle will work better as a third single with two smashes under her belt

"Title" works so much better now that it's a contrast to two other samey songs. Much more confident in it now.

This is going to be so dominant around the time her album drops in January.
I can't believe Epic is actually doing something right.

Well, this sure hasn't been the out-of-the-gate smash some were expecting.

Well, this sure hasn't been the out-of-the-gate smash some were expecting. All About That Bass is still in heavy rotation, and a second single like this isn't going match the first one. We talked about this in Lorde's "Team" thread. A song that disrupted the status quo and smashed as a first single is almost always going to do better than the followup even if it's a better song.

Mmhmm, but there are still plenty of examples of second singles that smashed straight out of the gate following a massive first release. I think this song is just a piss-poor imitation of "Bass" and radio and the general public are picking up on that with a tepid responce. Regardless, I'm not even saying it should be more successful than her first, just one would think it would be moving quicker than this.

I don't know, I usually agree with a lot of your opinions in here (even though I lurk a lot), but I disagree that this is moving slowly. It's already in the Top 40, and now that the video dropped, its definitely going to reach a new peak next week. It entered the chart when AATB was literally number 1, so I just don't think that it was realistic to assume that LAM would fly to the top because she is such a new artist.

Hey, maybe it's just me. IDK. A series of middling +50-100 spin updates just seemed surprising, given how monstrous her first single was. Oh well.

I think the signs are actually pretty encouraging for this song and Megan. AATB is still huge-would have been #1 on billboard this week if not for Taylor getting a ton of video views with Blank Space. She is also a newbie artist with one extremely big novelty sounding hit. People have been stumbling over themselves to label her the next Carly Rae Jepsen who also struggled a bit getting a real second hit. The fact that this is top 20 already on pop with a decent bullet and is firmly inside the top 10 on Itunes bodes very well for it. Of course, who knows what will happen over the holidays. I could either see it going all the way and hitting top 10 billboard top 3 pop OR stumbling a bit and peaking around 12 on pop and who knows on billboard.

I think I'd agree that one would expect a bigger bullet at this point, but there's no reason to worry that it might be done. Songs have slowed down and reignited many times before.
Either way, with her album not being out until January, there's no big hurry for this to explode at this point. AATB will keep her exposed trough year end countdowns and all this needs to do to set up a good launch is to survive the freeze, and there's not much to suggest that it will not do so right now.

I just don't think this is an accurate discussion. The song had a tremendous start on radio. I mean it had something like a 1200 bullet at one point, from a new artist off of a novelty hit. Pulse always does this. Just because it had a slowish week doesn't mean anything except it was slow for a few days. Today's update is great. It's in the top 10 on iTunes, and has sold EXTREMELY well given its level of radio airplay.
She's a Katy Perry, not a Carly Rae Jepsen.

Title vs. Style will be an interesting match imo. Both are great, but I think Title is going to be the bigger song. Style is just too much related to Blank Space. Will be fun to watch!

to say that this hasn't blown up like many other followup singles is silly; the only two new artists from this summer that saw immediate followup were iggy and sam smith, which 1. billboard chose to focus on rather than just their hits and 2. had two songs smashing simultaneously. nico & vinz's song is already falling, charli is struggling and i don't really even have to say anything about magic! as already said, this song is doing more than ok right now with its itunes position and not-s**t-tier music video.
sorry, not everyone can have the love radio has for tswift.

First: didn't you say you believed "Style" was going to be bigger than "Blank Space"? If that's the case, your expectations for "Title" must be out of this world. Second: how in the world is "Blank Space" and "Style" THAT similar? I think the two tracks are pretty distinct from eachother.

And this, is simply, all I was saying folks. I expected a bigger bullet. I'm not saying it is crashing and burning. I'm not saying it won't be successful. I'm saying, all things considered, I expected more traction. Sorry for the double post btw.

They both have that one note structure, similar to Katy's California Gurls and Teenage Dream. Much more similar in structure and sound than AATB/LAM and Title. And yes my expectations for it are high, as I feel it is on another level than anything else out there right now.
