She had an exchange on Twitter with a fan who was upset about people listening to the leak, basically Marina said that if people were interested enough in her new music to listen to it in LQ and couldn't wait for the HQ version, that was OK with her. It's refreshing for an artist to care more about having their music heard than making every possible penny from it. Agreed. Marina is really in this because she wants to create music first and foremost and doesn't care if it doesn't make huge amounts of profit. I always have more respect for artists who go that route, being happy with having just enough money to continue making music.

I mean don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge an artist for wanting to get paid for their work. They deserve to be compensated, just like nobody else should be expected to work for free. But there are a lot of artists who are quite obviously only in it for the money, and not to share their art. A few people listening to a low quality vinyl rip isn't going to be the difference between megastardom and the poor house for Marina, and I'm glad she recognizes that.

USA dates are out, they go on sale tomorrow. She's hitting the big festivals (SXSW, Govs Ball, Lolla, etc.) too. I'm surprised she's playing the Bowery considering she sold out multiple dates at larger venues for her last tour, but I suppose they don't want to accidentally overreach. This will probably become her highest charting album here, Electra Heart peaked at #31.

Everything I've heard from this project is so disappointing. Where are the bangers?

I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of uptempos. My favorites are Froot, I'm A Ruin, Savages and Blue. As of now, it's probably my least favorite out of her 3 albums.

It's amazing how early albums have been leaking over the past year or so.

Really love the full album, I'll be purchasing it as soon as it's out.
I'm probably in the minority but I prefer this as a whole to Electra Heart, which was too grating for me. I think I like specific tracks from Electra Heart more than anything from Froot, but the latter flows more as a whole. It's also not as slow as people were making it out to be; I don't need everything to be the pace of "Bubblegum Bitch" for it to be exciting.

I figured this 1 track a month for 6 months thing was too long of a lead to keep the record under wraps, particularly with them pressing all 6 of the pre-order tracks on vinyl, those masters have to have been sent to the presses months ago.

'FROOT' (song) finally clicked with me a couple days ago, talk about a grower. I'm completely hooked. I want to indulge in the leak, but I'm gonna hold off, the CD comes out officially on my b-day, so I'll let it be my present.

This is a really really strong Pop record. There are a lot of Wow moments in the lyrics and production, the hooks are sharp, the emotional beats hit dead-on, and it doesn't overstay it's welcome while not feeling too brief. Each song stands out on its own, even if I question opening with Happy (it doesn't really fit anywhere else on this album though).

Release date has been moved up to March 16th. I'm sad it's no longer my birthday album, but great idea. With the full thing out there, waiting until April is risky.

Haha I'm not surprised they chose to do that. I like the album I think, but not as much as the previous one. It would have really benefitted from 1 or 2 more uptempos towards the end and having Happy and another of the slower numbers cut.
I'm seeing her at the Bowery right after this comes out then, I'm interested if she'll bring it up, I'm surprised she's not playing larger venues, she sold out in a few hours. I suppose she'll play bigger ones later in the year and wants a more intimate setting to get used to playing the new stuff.

It's officially FROOT day!
So, I never caved in - I finally listened to the album in full today, and I was right about this album destined to be my album of the year. Just when I was getting rather bored with most albums lately, Marina decided to save pop for me.
Blue is probably my favorite, and even though this and Froot are the poppiest songs on the album, they balance out the other songs very nicely. The album took me two listens to really appreciate it, as it's very top heavy. The second half needs a little more listening to grow on you, but I really love it. The lyrics are well thought out and intelligent, the melodies are memorable, and the vocal production is on point. I love her layered, dreamy background vocal arrangements.
I was happy to see this shoot straight to No. 1 early in the morning on iTunes. Although the Kendrick is holding her off now I'm glad she'll get a decent entry for the charts next week, and she will probably debut at No. 1 in the UK.

It took me a few listens to get into this, but I like it much better than the last album.

While I didn't instantly love every song, enough of them are so strong that I want to listen again! Especially "Froot," "Forget," and "Weeds."
