What are or were some of your favorite country music television or radio shows? It doesn't matter if it's a show now or was on the air at one time or another. Whether it was on CMT, GAC, or another cable station, And whether it was a local radio show or a national syndicated program. :) Television* Master Series on GAC (I loved this show. The host was Bill Cody and he would sit down with a artist who usually was a 80's or 90's artist. Great insight on certain aspects of their career and some videos of past hits to go along with it) * Top 20 Countdown on CMT (Now this would be the old Top 20 Countdown. In the early to mid 2000's. They would usually debut new music videos every Thursday and that was the main reason I watched. I was only in middle school at the time so this did the job of entertaining me) * I also kind of enjoyed the Warren Brothers reality show. Radio* CT40 with Bob Kingsley (this actually wasn't on WYRK til December of 2006 so I kind of caught on late. But this was the first time I got to hear the top 40 be counted down since WYRK had Lon Helton's top 30 singles for most of my childhood. Bob seemed to mess up something every now and then whether it was on his website with misspelling song titles or putting the wrong artist next to a song title, or maybe having a slip up on the air. I do enjoy this show though to this day) * WYRK New Country Battle (this only was on from February 2006 to September of 2006 but oh how I wish they brought it back. Every weeknight they would pit two new songs against one another. Usually the songs were in the 40's, 50's or even not charting at all. Then for an hour callers got to vote for which one they liked more. If a song went five consecutive nights, it was retired. Some of the one's that went five straight nights were.. Big & Rich - "8th Of November" Gary Allan - "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" Heartland - "I Loved Her First" Others that went multiple nights were.. Mark McGuinn - "Deep" Jeff Bates - "One Second Chance" Chris Young - "Drinkin' Me Lonely" Bomshel - "It Was An Absolutely Finger Lickin', Grits And Chicken, Country Music Love Song" I also remember people thinking that "Yee Haw" by Jake Owen and "Meat And Potato Man" by Brice Long were jokes. Both got smoked. Though Brice's went up against "A Little Too Late" by Toby Keith so it's understandable why. * There was also this once a week, hour radio program that would air on Friday nights that would showcase all the brand new single to hot country radio. I couldn't get great reception on the channel it was on so I would go into my Dad's car every Friday to listen to it since that's where it seemed to come through best.

I love Bob Kinglseys top 40 countdown and have been a faithful listener for 4 years, i also miss what was called the "Friday Night Fight" on WYRK. It used to be how i discovered new music/artists, and me being the nerd i am always called ahead to see who was up against who. I remeber the last one was Florida Georgia Line "Get Your Shine On" v. The Farm "Be Grateful" (boy guess who won that one?!?).

I'm actually friends with Bret Alan and he let me know that would be the final Friday Night Fight ever on WYRK before he did the show that night. "Be Grateful" barely lost by the way to FGL, so it wasn't a blowout as The Farm put up a great fight. "Be Grateful" beat "American Beautiful" by The Henningsens the week before.

Oh wow really? Nice i've met him a couple times and actually enjoyed his program a lot. I remember at one time he said he wanted to bring it back (or at least something similar). But yeah i forgot how close that fight was, i'm sure you have the statistics for all the fights :)

By the time they introduced the Friday Night Fight I had a busier life then so I usually missed most of them.

I shall continue to add Western New York flavor here. My favorite TV shows were Hee Haw and Barbara Mandrell And The Mandrell Sisters (where Barbara acted like the mother to Louise and Irlene). Also, watching The Dukes Of Hazzard was a Friday night must.
As for radio shows, I still remember the host of the original Saturday Night Request Show at WYRK-Johnny Lawrence. He and I talked all the time.

My favorite country music tv show was Billy Bob's Country / Billy Bob's Country Countdown, hosted by Pam Minnick, JD Ryan, & Michael Twitty. I have a few episodes on vhs and one features a story about Nashville recording studios and shows Tim McGraw in studio recording "Indian Outlaw."

I don't get CMT anymore, but I used to like CMT Crossroads a fair bit. When I was a kid, I also used to like to watch the Chevy Top 20 countdown show.
County music related shows I like are Nashville, Reba and Malibu Country.

Hee Haw Music City Tonight with Crook and Chase Ralph Emery Show Barbara Mandrell Show Dolly Parton Show Jonny Cash Show
Oh wrong century. I hate all today's Country shows other than some stuff on RDF-TV and most of that is classic programming and farming. Great stuff!
For radio I like Grand Ole Opry of course. The last Countdown show I actually enjoyed was Jeff Foxworthy's.

When it comes to radio, I used to occasionally listen to Jeff Foxworthy and Crook & Chase's countdowns. I used to love the Christmas on Music Row special they used to play on our local country station every Christmas (they stopped after 2010).
As for TV, when I was a kid, I used to spent hours every day watching CMT. Some of my favorite shows included: CMT Most Shocking, Inside Fame, CMT Request Line (I requested SHeDAISY videos practically every day in 2000), CMT Stacked (I still remember the Shania Twain special where they played the "never before seen" videos for "Thank You Baby!", "When You Kiss Me", and the international remix of "Up!".) and Most Wanted Live (the TRL of country music).
I eventually stopped watching CMT when it became clear country music wasn't so interesting to them and switched over GAC where I used to watch GAC Nights and Master Series. These days, I occasionally watch old reruns of Music City Tonight and Nashville Now on Heartland TV (which was originally the revival of The Nashville Network, until they lost the rights to use the name). I also record CMT's Throwback Thursday block every week (although I wish they'd play more '80s and '90s and less 2000s).

I really don't watch CMT since they decided to be the country version of MTV with all of the stupid reality shows and little music. I loved CMT in the early 2000's when the CMT Awards were still the Flameworthy Awards, they would always have concert specials, and would play music videos for most of the day. I also loved CMT Most Wanted Live, The Jeff Foxworthy Show, and even though I think they only had one episode, Cross Country. As for current CMT shows, the only reason I would watch would be if there was a CMT Crossroads that interests me and the CMT Awards.
Luckily when CMT started to change my family switched TV providers and we were able to get GAC. Even though they are playing less music videos than they used to, they still have a lot more shows that are worth watching. Backstory, Headline Country, Top 20 Countdown, Opry Live and the red carpet being the main ones. I also liked Conversations From The Road, and The Collection, but I'm not sure if those are still being aired.
I like the award shows for the most part. CMAs and ACMs are my favorite with the CMTs and ACAs (or whatever they are called now) being a hit or miss. The ACM Presents specials are awesome (the Brooks & Dunn one being my favorite) as well as the CMA Country Christmas.
I don't listen to many radio shows but the ones I do listen to are American Country Countdown with Kix Brooks and every Christmas Eve I listen to a Christmas Special Cat Country 96 (WCTO) airs. Not sure what it's called though.

Thunder Road used to be a favorite of mine as well for nostalgia alone. WYRK used to air it right before Country Countdown USA at 7:00 a.m on Sunday mornings. It's basically a NASCAR news show that plays tons of the newest country music.

I have no idea what year year this was but I remember watching a show on NBC called Hot Country Nights. I am pretty sure it came on Saturday nights. All it was was a few artist in a sort of Opry format (two or three songs each). I couldn't wait to see who was going to be on the show each week.

I've listened to Bob Kingsley since I started listening to country music in 1994. Luckily WBEE had American Country Countdown Sundays 8am to noon and 8pm to midnight then. WBEE switched to CT40 when Bob started that show (although only the 8am to noon airing now). WBEE used to have a nightly top 10 at 10 countdown based on calls. They also had the WBEE test track which was bascially the same as the WYRK new country battle.
I used to listen to Country Countdown USA out of Buffalo (107.7 WNUC before it became WNSA and then whatever it is now lol) back in the 90s, since that show had the Radio and Records chart while ACC had the billboard chart. Ironically WBEE just added CCUSA recently to its Saturday morning lineup.

Growing up I was addicted to watching TNN Country News hosted by Debra Maffett. It was on during the mid to late 90's I believe. Before there was internet this was how I found out all the latest country music news and who was top 10 on Billboard. Here is one of the few clips I can find of the show:

Does anybody remember these:
America's New Country Country Connection with Bawb Harvey CMT Hit Trip
I never watched much of Hit Trip, although I have to give them credit, they were able to land an interview with George Strait, at a time when he seldom did interviews.

I don't think I watched much in the way of programs, but I remember watching this show either CMT or GAC had that played videos by non-mainstream artists. I remember that it introduced me to songs like "El Cerrito Place" by Charlie Robison (miles better than Chesney's version, btw), "Angry All the Time" by Bruce Robison," "Too Lazy to Work, Too Nervous to Steal" by BR-549, and "Earthbound" by Rodney Crowell. Really good stuff. Other than that, I mostly just watched the standard blocks of music videos.

I don't think they still do this but back in 2005-2007, GAC would be live from CMA Music Fest at the Riverfront concert scene. They would interview artists if they were scheduled to play that day. I believe the show was a few hours long. In between they would play music videos by the artist they had just talked to.
This is how I heard some interesting facts like Ryan Shupe's sister naming his band the "Rubberband" and Mark Wills saying that "Hank" had to be pulled from radio because stations just weren't really liking the lyrics in the song. Actually when Mark said that, I remember Suzanne Alexander putting her arms in the air like "What, why?".

GAC's Time Capsule usually airs overnight or early morning now I believe, so I recorded it; they played some great videos including "Don't Rock The Jukebox" (Alan Jackson) "Dust on the Bottle" (David Lee Murphy) "Baby's Gotten Good at Goodbye" (George Strait)
but they also played "Our Song" (Taylor Swift) :( sorry but shouldn't have been included

There was a concert series on A&E called Live By Request, where the setlist was determined by the viewers. Requests were made from those in the audience, emails, and I think they took phone calls as well. A number of episodes featured country stars. I specifically remember watching an episode with Loretta Lynn.
