It's so funny because last year before Hozier blew up, this song came out and both started getting airplay on Sirius around the same. I said that both were going to be big names in a few months, it was just a matter of who was first. While I was familiar with Take Me To Church for months by this point, I predicted Budapest would smash sooner. I was wrong there but if it does become a significant hit, I'll be right in that regard. Hozier benefited from a couple of things, the first of all was the video wich got the song a lot of attention. On the other hand Budapest wasn't an instant hit on the UK, the song charted high when started to receive attention (in this is quite similar to Take me to church) but it was the longevity of the song and how it affected to the album sales what made the real impact. There are a lot of british acts getting airplay on hot ac or AAA (i remember Paloma Faith or Tom Oddel charting) but in the end if the song doesn't explode or the artist doesn't promote generally ends in just a testimonial low chart position. Let her go was an example to that, before Passenger really started promotion backed by the label the song simply failed to make top 20 on AAA

Hozier also got the Grammy attention too. I don't know why I guessed Budapest would take off quicker. I think because, even though both songs had the buzz, Budapest had a more distinctive and simple hook and was the safer choice.

Well, to be fair Take me to church is one of the most atypical smash hits in recent years.

Sorry if this is a stupid question , but would country radio stations like this song and play it ? . I dont think so. They didn't play that much I will wait, and frankly i don't think this is country at all (and even if it was country lately only plays songs about trucks, girls that are very country and being drunk)

I think he is going to build his career the same way it was built on UK, slowly. In fact now in UK they have a similar case with James Bay. Lately Uk is producing a lot of successful male singers

I saw this guy open for Sam Smith back in January, complete unknown to the crowd. He had a real good sense of humor, but his material overall is so...boring. Like, even more boring than Sam Smith's most boring material, and Ed Sheeran's from his earlier material.

Well, this is starting out quite nice. This only need a high profile TV performance to get to top 20.

Now top 30. The song is a grower, i remember catching my attention after only one seconds listening the UK chart. I think it will pull a long chart run in the USA too. He has an advantage over other british acts that he in fact has another potential hit with Blame it on me, but better if he scores a hit with this first

He seems likable, and that would leave people with an impression of him even if the song doesn't catch on for them quickly. It took me a few listens to even remember it.
