IMO, this is the most overrated alternative band of all time. Never have, and never will understand the hype. 102.1 The Edge still plays "1979" to death, and I fail to see what's so awesome about it

I thought The Celestials from their last album was really strong, as was Tarantula a while back too. I'm curious to see if they can keep up the strong lead singles.

I can kind of agree that they're overrated. I love some of their songs. Mostly the album tracks and singles that weren't overplayed to death, but I've never really liked Billy Corgan's vocals. I'm still looking forward to their album anyway.

I can't trust anyone who doesn't see the greatness of the 90s stuff. Even some vault tracks were great.

The Smashing Pumpkins is one of the greatest rock bands of all time and after Oceania, which was a phenomenal record like their first three, I'm very excited for this.

Was disappointed to learn that "The Celestials" bombed and only peaked at #25.

I'm looking forward to this. Hopefully, if it's another strong return like "The Celestials" was, Alternative might be a bit nicer to them this time around. It's also worth noting that "The Celestials" only spent 7 weeks on the chart.

Oceania didn't have much radio promotion and the Celestials was out after the album.

I'm more of a fan of their heavier singles myself and just never "got" 1979.

You shoulda added a toll to see who would can pick the first single by titles alone. Anyway, I love the Smashing Pumpkins. One of those bands of the 90s that put Alt Rock on the map. "Tarantula" was the last great one I remember. What I do remember is Billy Corgan playing some guitar and synths on Ric Ocasek's song: "The Next Right Moment" off his Troubleizing LP. Great song! "One and All" and "Anti- Hero" sound like good single titles.

I work for a toy company and we distribute One Direction electronics. I have to watch their videos all the time and I must say no matter how much one may dislike the Smashing Pumpkins, they cannot compare to the awfulness that is One Direction.

When I compare bands to One Direction I'm comparing them to shit. I don't expect One Direction to even appear on this thread. These are the Smashing Pumpkins! All you bitchin about Alt rock turning Indie Pop should be excited they are making a comeback.. I'm 100% these guys won't go the indie pop route.

Not bad. It's a nice song, but that's about it.

I like it. Has a nice mellow feel to it, much like their other stuff. Not the type of song I want to listen to a 100 times, but still pretty good.

Meh. I think "The Celestials" was better. Maybe it's the audio quality of that.

Hell yes, I'm loving it. New Bush then New Lorde then New Foo and now New Pumpkins? I'm in like music heaven.

It's not close to my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song ever, but I do happen to like it better than "The Celestials." I wasn't a big fan of "Oceania" as it was just too mellow for me. This is a good in-betweener of soft and harder Pumpkins material.

hmmm, I really like it. Just a tad on the mellow side, but very melodic. The chords create a soothing atmosphere and the edgier parts bring the classic Smashing Pumpkins sound full circle.
