Good choice. I was never a fan of "Ready Set Roll", but there are some solid songs on his album. I think this is a good choice for the second single, seeing how it's really catchy and fits right in his bro wheelhouse. I think this should be another top 5 hit from him, but I just hope they didn't wait to long to release it. The longer Ready Set Roll continues to chart, the harder i think it will be to follow up.

I'm indifferent on this one. From a sonic standpoint, they nailed everything, from the performance to the production to the melody. Damn near perfect.
However, the lyrics here are so god damn boring. Nothing original in the slightest.
Gets a 'C' grade from me.

I really like this one. The lyrics are nothing special (thanks, bro) but it's definitely a step in the right direction from Ready Set Roll, which I figured was poised to "roll" right into 2015 and possibly even 2016 with marginal +3 spin gains every week.
Just glad that I'm done hearing that song and it's dang intro that for some reason reminded me of Ronald Reagan from the bar in Back to the Future 2.

I actually find this tolerable; the production is pretty nice and Chase sounds decent. The verses aren't terrible......but then that chorus comes in.
If you wanna then we're gonna girl I hope you're gonna wanna tonight
I hate that line so much. It has nothing to do with Chase's delivery. I just don't think anyone can make that line sound good. The song isn't strong lyrically, and that line stands out in a negative way
This is still a major step up from "Ready Set Roll" and not a song I will immediately turn off.

So totally embarrassed to admit this is currently my guilty pleasure. And like, the guiltiest pleasure ever.
I also really enjoyed That's How She Rolls, but Ready Set Roll makes me want to pull my ears off.
I'm still totally turned off by Chase's general persona, and this song doesn't do anything for me lyrically, but something about it is clicking with me. Sigh. How far I've fallen. LOL!

With some praise for this song, I was expecting for this to be at least tolerable for me (I admittedly turn the dial every time it comes on The Highway), but my God was this song not good IMO. The lyrics are unoriginal and borderline cringe worthy. The production is okay but sonically I also found it to be lacking. Chase doesn't have a strong voice (and neither does many of my favorites in this genre so I can respect looking past that) but he just doesn't sound good on this.
It's one hundred times better than that horrid "Ready Set Roll" so for that I'm thankful, but this is another pass for me.

I'm really curious to the treatment this song will get on the charts. Will it be another slow long climb like Parmalee has had to struggle with, or will it chart relatively quicker like Thomas Rhett did with Get Me Some of That? Chase definitely has a bigger fan base than Parmalee, and there's probably a good chance this song will sell well too.

Too bad, I was hoping it would spend another 50 weeks on the chart. "Gonna Wanna Tonight" is a slight improvement, but that really wasn't a difficult task. The lyrics are still pretty dreadful, especially the chorus.

I'm actually expecting Chase Rice to have more momentum than several artists who have had #1 singles. My guess would be about a 30-week climb to #1 (about the same as a Cole Swindell single might climb, give or take a few weeks). But I'm pretty sure that this record will end up at #1, whether it takes 25 or 50 weeks to climb.

It's better than "Ready Set Roll" (but really, how is that an accomplishment worth celebrating), but that's about it. I agree that Chase doesn't really have a strong voice, but he sounds almost bored on this one to me. That, along with the lyrics and the melody, will make this an instant station changer (if I still listened to the radio).

21 adds this week. Not exactly bad, but not really as many as I originally thought with him coming off a top 5 single. Granted, I didn't know when this song was announced as his second single that he'd be going against Luke, Jason, and Blake, probably the three biggest artists going in the business on add day, which had much to do with it. I'll be interested to see how many adds this song can pull in the next two weeks.

It's just so cool and relaxing.

Production is great, I'll give it that and Chase doesn't sound bad for what it is. But it's just boring to me lyrically, there is NOTHING original here. It's borderline Bro-Country, especially when you use "kick it". Then again Chase is part of that new Frat of songwriters/artists so it's not surprising. Hope it doesn't chart well, but that's just me. NEXT!

This currently sits in the top 900 on iTunes all-genre with fewer than 200 plays and fewer than 1 million audience impressions on this past Monday's Billboard chart. I'd say that's pretty good for a new artist. I'm actually really surprised radio isn't getting on board just yet, but I guess a 50-week chart run can really kill an artist's momentum. Lee Brice, David Nail, and Craig Campbell had similar problems after spending 50+ weeks on the chart. Lee Brice's follow-up to "Love Like Crazy," "Beautiful Every Time," peaked in the lower end of the 20's on the chart. David Nail followed up the slowest climb to #1 (counting only consecutive weeks) that "Let It Rain" had with "The Sound of a Million Dreams" which zoomed into the top 40 and then stopped dead in its tracks. Craig Campbell followed up "Outta My Head" with "Keep Them Kisses Comin'," which was struggling in the 40's until he was chosen for the iHeartRadio On the Verge program.
I can definitely see Chase Rice being the next OTV artist. I'm sure we'll have some more new artists release music in January, but as of right now the competition is light. Some of the new contenders at the bottom of the chart are Gloriana, Kelsea Ballerini, Canaan Smith, Jon Pardi, Jackie Lee, Josh Abbott Band, Railers, and Swon Brothers. Some of these are more likely to be chosen than others (Gloriana, Ballerini, and Smith being the most likely contenders in my view) and new duo Haley & Michaels also have a decent shot since their "Just Another Love Song" made a splash after reaching #1 on GAC's top videos countdown this past summer, but I think "Gonna Wanna Tonight" sounds more like a radio hit than any of these other acts' current singles. Columbia Nashville does have another new artist, Steven Lee Olson, whose single "Raised By a Good Time" impacts this December, so it'll be interesting if Columbia ends up trying to push for two different new artists to receive the OTV treatment. Right now if no other new artist comes out with a new single before the next OTV artist is chosen (probably at the beginning of January), I do think Chase has a high shot at being selected.
I also think Chase and Columbia are really making a big mistake if they don't release "Ride" featuring Macy Maloy at some point. I figured their plan was to release "Do It Like This" next since that was the other song they sent to iTunes early but "Ride" is doing really well on iTunes and with the success the pop song "Ride" by SoMo has had I think country radio would jump on Chase's version of the song, which is over 100 spaces higher than the original on iTunes right now. But at the current rate Chase is moving up the chart it might be tough to get even one more single up the chart after this.

Even if this does have a slow ride up the charts, which seems like a certainty at this point, I still think there's a decent chance we will get a 3rd single. This album is still pretty new, so even if this song took 40 weeks to peak this time, the album would only be about a year old. At that point it would be a tough call, but with so many radio friendly songs on this album, and with their being 18 total songs (a lot of material), I think we could get a 3rd single. "Ride" would certainly be an interesting chart run to watch, as I could see it either being big, or flaming out like "Donkey". There's no way a song as racy as that though could top the charts. I think at best "Ride" could get top 10. One of the songs I would love to see be the 3rd single is "Jack Daniels & Jesus", which I think would really open some country fan's eyes to Chase, and help him shake off the "bro" label. Sadly though, I know a piano driven song by a new artist would be a one way ticket to nowhere on the charts. The thing that sucks is if Luke Bryan or Blake Shelton had recorded that song, it would be a huge 3 week #1.

^ I never said that Blake isn't capable of singing about something other than drinking. I just was bouncing off of the comment that said that Blake could have a multi-week No.1 if he recorded "Jack Daniels and Jesus" in case you don't know the song is about alcohol has ruined the singer's life and how he is caught somewhere between "Jack Daniels and Jesus". Anyone who knows Blake knows that he has a genuine love for drinking. I just meant that Blake would almost never record a song in where drinking was viewed as a bad thing

I don't think Blake would necessarily be opposed to recording a more song about drinking as a bad thing. I mean, it's not like he has to pick a side and only sing about the good side of the bad side of alcohol. Brad Paisley released "Alcohol" only a year after "Whiskey Lullaby" for instance, and George Strait released "Here for a Good Time" and "Drinkin' Man" from the same album a few years back, i.e.
As for "Jack Daniels and Jesus" being a huge hit, I'm not entirely sure that it would be. It's possible that it could be met with the same kind of resistance we saw when "Beer with Jesus" was released.

Chase is really having a hard time getting his feet off the ground. "Gonna Wanna Tonight" is only at #57 with fewer than a million AIs in its fourth week on the chart, ahead of not a single song being promoted by a major label, and it's actually lost some audience for the week. I'm starting to wonder if "Gonna Wanna Tonight" might be too slow/mid-tempo for a new artist at radio. Perhaps "Do It Like This" should have been released second instead. It may be shameless bro-country but it definitely would have attracted some buzz.
This better turn around very soon or it might not even make it into the new year to be considered for On the Verge.

This sounds a lot better than Ready Set Roll. The production isn't hokey and grating, and Chase's voice is surprisingly smooth and intimate, not cocky and strident like it was on RSR. Still somewhat bro, but I agree that this is a big step up for him.

What I find so depressing is country music has devolved to the point where a song with the line "If you wanna catch a buzz and ride it till the morning" can be seen as an improvement over the previous single. I'm not disagreeing , just an observation.

I'm not disagreeing , just an observation. Country music has always had questionable lyrical content at times. It was really more surprising that it got the "family-values" reputation that it had pre-bro country thanks to hits from bands like Lonestar and Phil Vassar.

No. And to be clear , I wouldn't want to see a return to the G rated material about sippy cups & drinking sour milk either. I just don't want to be beat in the head with subject matter that includes "pink umbrellas" & "riding it all night long".....or a naked Jason Aldean (shudder).

I don't see how the "riding it all night long" lyrics can be taken in a sexual way. Here's the line in context: If you wanna catch a buzz and ride it til the mornin' Let's get two plastic cups and baby I'll get to pourin' It don't really matter if it's whiskey or wine, it's fine Isn't it pretty clear that the "it" is referring to the "buzz"?
