Artist: James Otto Single: "Somewhere Tonight" Label: Blaster/Ottopilot Records Add Date: July 13th, 2015 Source: Music Row
Listen James Otto is back with a new single "Somewhere Tonight". He's obviously on his own label ( Ottopilot Records) so I suspect this to not make any sort of impact on the main chart unless James has a promo team in mind for country radio. This is his first new song since "Soldiers And Jesus" in late 2010.

I look forward to hearing this. I always liked his music...and I LOVE the name of his record label. Ha! I cringe at the thought of this awakening a certian crazed fan though....

I know everybody has to do what they can to get by in this genre these days , but Otto is SO much better than this.

I love Otto's voice so much but when I heard this I was just disappointed really. I mean, I'd prefer to hear him singing these songs (just to be able to hear his voice) than most other artists, but it's a shame he has to.

James Otto dropped by the Music Row offices to perform new songs he will be including on his new EP which is tentatively scheduled for a release later this year. Among the songs that will be included are "They Don't Make Them Like You No More" and "Love Makin' Music". James said he co-produced the EP with Corey Crowder. Music Row

I heard WATZ play this yesterday. My first thought was that it was some z-grade independent bro I would never hear from again. Then Shazam said it was James Otto and I was floored. He's totally unrecognizable here, and the song is terribly weak by anyone's standard.

So...R&R Going For Adds lists "Somewhere Tonight" as going for adds on July 13, with the label listed as "Blaster/Otto Pilot". I posted about this in the Record Label thread as well, since James signing with Blaster would be a new development. If true, this oughta make trebor happy, as I know he charted "Somewhere Tonight" pretty high in the Weekly Pulse Country Chart thread. Also, if Blaster is indeed on-board, then we'll probably see James make his return to the Billboard & Mediabase charts at some point, possibly with this song or maybe a subsequent release. Blaster hasn't had a ton of success (yet) but they've gotten a handful of songs into the 50's and 40's, and even a couple inside the top 40.

Blaster hasn't had a ton of success (yet) but they've gotten a handful of songs into the 50's and 40's, and even a couple inside the top 40. "Somewhere Tonight" has actually been pretty successful on the Music Row Chart as it's reached 65 secondary market stations and has cracked the top 30 of that chart. So I think Blaster see's some potential with this song to have some success on the main chart, though James has been off the radar for a while in terms of mainstream radio is concerned. Personally, this song does extremely little for me. I was really surprised by the sound of James' voice and the whole song is just so boring with its melody and lyrics. I would love to hear some new music from James in terms of a full album release, so I'll be rooting for him if he is indeed with Blaster.

I'm pretty happy for James Otto; this is really good news for him. I did indeed chart "Somewhere Tonight" and it peaked at #3 on my 01/31/15 chart. This track is not ground-breaking and probably not even country per se, but the infectious banjo play has me steamrolled every time. The "electric" beat and drum machines are a bit off but the melody is pure pop. The "lyrics" and "woha's" are pretty much forgettable. One of those guilty pleasures, I'll allow myself! :) This track is a summer song and since it's still gaining at secondary radio; I'd prefer him to release some new material which is more like the James Otto we used to know and appreciate. :)

James is indeed with Blaster as All Access has confirmed "Somewhere Tonight" going for adds on July 13th, with Blaster as the primary label. New Single Cover:

Much better single cover. Good for James getting another chance with a record label, but I don't see this doing much though. This is so, so generic, which is a shame considering he has a pretty soulful voice and even though the style of music he used to do never seemed to really connect with country radio outside of his one smash hit, it's too bad to see him going from stuff like "Just Got Started Lovin' You" or "Since You Brought It Up" to... this. Meh. I doubt he'll ever get another sizable hit again, but I'd rather see him stick with what he does best.

"Somewhere Tonight" fell just 44k in audience short of charting on Billboard Airplay this evening. The surging Tyler and Canaan barely beat James out for the last two Top 60 positions.

A former member who has since been banned; she was also a huge fan of James Otto. "Holly From East Tennessee?" I actually still see her every once in a while post in the comment section of All Access. Poor James; the entirety of his song's threads including this one get overshadowed by her past presence.
