I'm going to sacrifice a lamb if she doesn't break the record.

Now we can squash that whole "labels can use tactics to pad sales" talk, as they certainly would've padded her total with a mere few thousand copies to break that record. Nevertheless: goddess!! Not really a logical conclusion. For all we know the label pulled every stop to pad sales but came just short. Hell, we don't even know if she really did miss it yet.

how often do the numbers on soundscan trend higher than the ones hits reports? You never know. For Taylor's albums: RED (=)1,210,000 Billboard 1,210,000 HITS Speak Now (+3k)1,047,000 Billboard 1,044,000 HITS Fearless (-5k)592,000 Billboard 597,000 HITS Taylor Swift (+3k)40,000 Billboard 37,000 HITS

Not really a logical conclusion. For all we know the label pulled every stop to pad sales but came just short. Hell, we don't even know if she really did miss it yet. The "padding" also could have been applied literally anywhere. Maybe the label's involvement is what brought it past the "Red" total. Or even past the 1 million mark. There's no way to know. (If we wanted to dismiss the presence of padding, I'd say Warner Brothers allowing Nico and Vinz to sell 6K copies of the album featuring one of the biggest multi-format hits of 2014 is far stronger proof than an album that sold 1.136 instead of 1.139 *million* - and that's assuming it didn't break the record on Billboard anyway). But - what we can all agree is that this album is an absolute monster. And that Taylor Swift is now the benchmark against which "superstardom" needs to be judged.

I'm a huge Brit stan but I wouldn't mind Taylor breaking the record. This is too exciting to watch!

This thread will get to 30 pages yet. We will either have conspiracy theories against Taylor or if Soundscan announces the other way tomorrow , wewill get "Billboard hates Britney" :o

I doubt anyone would accuse Billboard of hating Britney...
But this will cause an uproar either way.

I don't listen to Taylor, so I don't mind that her music is not on Spotify. I'm just hoping that other labels/artists don't copy her actions.
Regarding Taylor, I respect her decision and I was actually hoping she would break Britney's first week sales record. These sales are great, with or without streaming. Hopefully Soundscan shows an increase to these HITS numbers.

You all who who believe her record label padded her sales seriously think they couldn't have added a mere 2,000 copies to its total to crush such a headline-grabbing record? Lloooollll. C'mon now.

My genuine opinion? Big Machine padded nothing, regardless of what the billboard numbers will be. However, that does not preclude the idea that other labels do. So i don't expect that to be a theory that's put to rest any time soon. Not many people outside of urban fans will recall this but on one of the gazillion U.O.E.N.O. remixes, Usher had a line like, "sold a million in one week...and I ain't even pay for it." Don't know who he was shading with that but the shade was very clear.

I'm not of the belief that shady practices aren't commonplace in the industry, I just don't feel it is taking place here.

Is there no Billboard article tonight due to the mid-term elections?
Or does Big Machine want the news out at the usual time on Wednesday?

Again, not taking anything away from Taylor as this is truly amazing, but EVERY label is corrupt. Maybe not the small indie ones, but certainly the larger ones, especially when it comes to major events like these. Perhaps they wanted to make it as close as possible to not have the 2nd week the worst drop ever. You have to consider that also.

Wow. Bummer for her to potentially just miss it. But still a sensational week. I would hardly imagine anyone at the label or in Taylor's camp is crying over beating this silly record. Selling 1 million+ in a week is still an epic mind blowing thing.

We could make a list of albums that Taylor has outsold in one week. :)
Miley Cyrus-Bangerz Lucy Hale-The Road Between etc.

What's with this "padding" talk? How exactly do you guys think a label could manipulate Soundscan numbers?
If labels want to sell more copies of something, basically they can cut the price or create other special offers around it, but customers still have to buy it. Have you guys who believe in padding actually thought through how that would be achieved?
