So much for her losing audience with her transition. *snicker*

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6296916/taylor-swift-1989-sales-1-millionNow, after its first day on sale, forecasters are confident 1989 will cross the magic, one-million sales threshold. 1989's official first-week sales, as tabulated by SoundScan, will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 5. That same day, Swift will most likely also debut atop the new Billboard 200 albums chart with 1989, giving her a fourth chart-topping set. No shit.... And they pay people to write this stuff

And they pay people to write this stuff Billboard's coverage of sales for this album cycle has been absolute garbage. Remember the absurdly low "Shake it Off" estimates (even as it started keeping the early pace -- as any commoner could have learned by looking at Kworb)? Plus, if Billboard was really saying 750K upfront when Hits Daily Double was wisely saying 700-1M, it's just embarrassing for Billboard. Granted, Hits wasn't good on the single either, and its columns on Swift and Big Machine are horrible, but at least it beat Billboard to the punch on this number.

The Frozen writers should release an album of new music inspired by the first film, with the same characters/voices- 1m+ opening, y'all.

Most of HDD's writing is awful in general. Its barely a step above blog banter.

I always assumed that people would buy when people put out great records. Clearly i need to reevaluate my record buying habits and be more like everyone else. Just throw darts and pick 1 person a year to go buy.
Congrats on the huge business aspects of this, I love seeing record selling big time. It brings back nostalgia

Just throw darts and pick 1 person a year to go buy. Looking at what's been released this year, the top sellers really are the only releases of any quality tbh. If anything, the new album buying environment is separating the wheat from the chaff as far as what albums sell a ton.

I think this basically confirms that it wasn't fans of country that were buying her albums, it wasn't fans of pop that were buying her albums, it was fans of TAYLOR. Her fan base and star power are what label dreams are made of. Big Machine better be cutting her some gigantic bonus checks every year.

I dont think Taylor has to worry about bonuses. She has writing credits on every one of her songs. She's set for life just off royalties.

I really didn't expect her to do a million again. Not that I expected some big drop, but I figured cutting country out entirely would make the difference of 100-200k, but her star power and momentum is truly unmatched in today's music industry. I don't really understand it, but it's crazy to witness. I think she just hits all the corners of mass market buyers. She has the kids, she has the teens, she has the gays, and clearly she still has Middle-America. I'm not surprised at the numbers. Recording and promotional costs probably will amount to about $10 million when all is said and done, and they'll make that back in the first week. LOL.

I'm very happy for Taylor Swift, even if I'm not the superfan that I used to be. And hopefully Frozen rises again in the winter months.

Somebody is really pressed that Taylor is snatching CD shelves while their alternative faves wallow in a grave of subpar sales

That's a good review though. 600,000 sold on the first day, confirmed.

^^ Unbelievable. She is the only artist today who can sell multi-million copies of records and manage to actually increase sales with a massively declining consumer climate. Are y'all predicting 1.2 million copies sold in the opening week then ? How copies did her previous records sell in one day ?

600,000 sold on the first day, confirmed. Unbelievable, no way, if this sells more than Red's first week sales :O

600k on the first day? What kind of absolute domination?

600k counts all the pre-orders too, right?

Nearly the biggest album of 2014 after just one day.
This woman, I swear.
Rolling Stone just a week ago was saying Swift would save the music industry this year by debuting with 600,000-750,000. Please. Selling 7 albums per SECOND. It's ain't no thang for Ms. Swift.

Jesus C. That is ridiculous, 600k in a day! Where is it confirmed? Or is Taylor Nation a legitimate Twitter account?
I know the discussion was huge for Red's opening week but is Britney's female-one-week-sales record in jeopardy? I would think this 1989 will be just as front-loaded as Red and that did 500k in a day and 1.2 million for the week.

Just WOW! BTW - I know hardly anyone uses that Microsoft app, but I wonder how many sales that will generate at .99? I'm assuming those will not count for SS.
