He announced this would be the next single on Jimmy Fallon a month ago and it also states this on the album wikipedia page.

This is a good song, but would not have been my choice for the second single. I would have went with a ballad, like "Too Fast", "Two Night Town", or "Tryin' To Love Me", or would have went with the more obvious "Sweet Little Somethin'", which was already charting and would have been a big hit IMO, similar to "She's Country". I'm sure the SLS will get released at some point, so I'm not sure why they didn't just release it second if they wanted something more upbeat. Anyways, I'm sure this song will go to #1 with no trouble, and will probably sell enough to become Platinum in time. I just think there are better songs that could have been released first.

I loved this song from the moment I heard the opening bars on the BuzzFeed album stream a few weeks ago. I agree SLS is more the type of Aldean red meat he would throw out to his fan base, but I do also agree SLS will be released as a single at some point. Just Gettin' Started is also typically the Jason sound (but maybe a little fresher) and after Burnin' It Down, I think he probably wanted to release a follow-up that's a little more his trademark sound.
I really, really hope we get one of the great ballads released as a single this era. Too Fast, Two Night Town, or Tryin' To Love Me would all be great choices. He's been playing Two Night Town in his live sets, so that may or may not mean something.

I think I'm going to be sitting out this era of Jason Aldean. There isn't much on his album that I like as I just can't wrap my ear around the change in production.
On a random note...considering Jason is performing at the CMA's and not nominated, I'm predicting he'll kick off the show with this song (seems like the right kind of song that would) and we probably won't see much of him for the rest of the show.

A) Why do all of his songs sound exactly the same? Literally, every single one sounds like they could be each other. B) Lame song. Lame lyrics, lame (and same) production, lame (and mediocre) vocals. Everything about this song (and him lately) has been lame.

That's an interesting thought actually. I originally thought "Burnin' it Down" was a performance lock, but this would be a good show starter IMO. As for the song, it's solid. Lyrics are meh, but love the melody, structure, vocals and production.

Seriously, it's like he's picking off where that song ended at 8PM and this song picks up at 9PM (both times are mentioned in the songs). Pretty little girl with pink toes on the dash? Check. Seat laid back in the truck? Check and check. I guess in TALR they've got the radio turned up already, whereas in JGS they haven't turned it up yet.

Yeah, lyrically it's not very interesting, but I find it to be sonically stronger than TALR.

Everything about this song (and him lately) has been lame. That's my problem with Jason Aldean. Most of his songs sound so similar that they don't really stand out. "Just Gettin' Started" = "Sweet Little Somethin'" = "Tonight Looks Good On You". The production of most of his songs sounds way too similar. It really doesn't matter what he chose to release second; almost any song he chose would have that same Jason Aldean-vibe that we've come to expect. And whichever one he chose will become a #1, obviously.

Not really surprised by the choice, but as long as "Tryin' to Love Me" is a single I'll be fine.

Everything about this song (and him lately) has been lame. I agree. I wish he would go back to releasing well written songs that aren't just about wooing some girl/partying it up/claiming how country he is...stuff like "Fly Over States", "Crazy Town", "The Truth" (my personal favorite), "Laughed Until We Cried", "Amarillo Sky", and "Relentless". I liked his singles from Night Train (with the exception of "1994"), but I'm getting bored of the same thing over and over again from Jason. I've tried listening to his new album to see if there is something great buried in there, but so far, I'm not impressed.

It looks like this is taking off now as expected, as the adds date has come. Up 57-45* and over 1.7 million in AI this week. It should also easily crack the top 40 next week as "Burnin' It Down" will go recurrent.

^I don't think Jason will have any problems with his singles this album era. Burnin It Down is the only risk on Old Boots, New Dirt, and it already peaked at #1. I'm not kidding when I say every other song is radio friendly. Plus it seems Jason is still as popular as he has ever been, so I think we will see another big album era for Jason. I'll give him a chance to release 6 singles this cycle, I think it could be a real possibility.

To me it's not even worth commenting on...... Blah Blah! Jason Aldean lately is just Blah! Go back to recording great songs like "Back in This Cigarette" and "Keep The Girl" Aldean!

^No, this isn't a "horrid piece of trash". But anyways, Jason too will be pulling Old Boots, New Dirt from Spotify, following the steps of Branltey Gilbert and Taylor Swift. I'm curious to see how many more artists will follow. I could see it being beneficial to them, by getting better album sales, but I also could see this backfiring like Metallica did with the whole Napster thing. I expect more to at least prevent the album from being launched on Spotify for at least the first month or so. Here's the article: www.billboard.com/articles/columns/the-615/6312446/jason-aldean-spotify-response

I'm generally not a Jason Aldean fan but I actually like this. The musical intro has a cool vibe and the chorus is infectious. The lyrics are not innovative but they are cohesive.

I like this one, actually. I agree it's more sonically interesting than his last couple of songs. Virtually a masterpiece compared to Burnin it Down which was a detestably repetitive channel-changer for me

This song is by no means struggling, but I would say it's moving up the charts slightly slower than I expected. It's already charted 7 weeks on Billboard so far, and only at #19. Perhaps it could be "I See You" and it's uber successful chart run so far that's leaving me a bit skeptical, but I can't help to think that "Sweet Little Somethin'" would be a few spots higher if it were released instead. This song is going to be a successful hit, there's no doubt about that, but I think is will be one of his least popular songs when it's all said and done, similar to "Crazy Town", just kind of there.

Actually, "Just Gettin' Started" is having a very similar chart run to Jason's last second single, "The Only Way I Know". That one sat at #16 after 6 weeks while "Just Gettin' Started" is at #16 after 8 weeks. But if you look back, "Just Gettin' Started's" first two chart weeks were less than 80 spins and did not go for adds yet, while "The Only Way I Know" debuted at #47 on Billboard with an audience of 1 million. So "Just Gettin' Started" is doing just fine by my counts. Its also up 4.7 million in audience since Sunday on MB and sits at #16 on the rolling chart.
I agree that this will not move the needle much and be one of Jason's lesser known hits when its all said and done, but this is still moving up very quickly along with very solid digital sales and I expect this to hit #1 with ease.

While I agree that this will be one of his lesser songs, I must say that Crazy Town is a re-listener for me. There are those songs that you get the craving to listen to after they've gone recurrent, those that you will hum along to when they come on the radio but don't go out of your way to hear on your own, and those that you would probably be fine never hearing again, even if you didn't hate hearing it at it's peak. Crazy Town (and I'm only using it as an example because you did) has a lot of ooomph for me and a steady rock punch throughout. Also it *somewhat* tells a story, which is the basis of country music, after all. Just Gettin' Started is just kind of there, as you said, it has almost no ooomph to me (it sounds as though they may have recorded Jason's vocals while he was lounging on his couch with a Miller Lite in hand), the best part of the song may very well be the intro, and the song most definitely does *not* tell a story we haven't heard a million times in the past three years.

This song is alright, but why it feels redundent. Couldn't agree more with 14887fan! Haven't liked anything from Jason since "Fly Over States" (and barely Take a Little Ride, but that burned fast)

I've been hearing this more on the radio and I still can't get over how boring and lifeless this song is. I've disliked some of Jason's recent singles (Take A Little Ride, The Only Way We Know), but this song just seems so uninspired. I don't really hate "Just Gettin' Started". I just think it's the most uninteresting song on the radio right now.

What's funny is that his last two second singles ("The Only Way I Know") fall into the lifeless category for me. He just seemed so uninterested singing "The Only Way I Know". Almost like his enthusiasm was way down that day, like he just got up from a nap. "Just Gettin' Started" does have a interesting guitar riff and interesting enough (I stress "enough") instrumentation to keep most happy with this song and enjoy it on the radio, but this is definitely a going through the motions type song for me.

Yeah I don't mind this song at all actually, but it's not going to be one that I seek out to play once it's finished as a single. I hope he chooses something more interesting as the next single, though I have to say that the album isn't holding up all that well for me.
