Yo- I was kidding about them performing a different song, I was letdown by the video and was saying the only way I could be more letdown was if they performed another song. I think they are going to have the performance of the night and I have to imagine they are going to do exactly what they did in the video for their performance.
My hopes are that this will be in the top twenty on country radio and this song will benefit the most in digital sales because of the award show.

Meghan Linsey (formerly from Steel Magnolia), a contestant from The Voice will sing this song on the show tonight. More exposure, yes!

I'm not sure how it works but for some reason I think I read that covers of songs count toward the sales, but now I'm thinking maybe it was remixes.
Anyhow pretty good performance by meghan, really helped digital sales. I wonder how high it will climb after their cma performance.

Billboard: Remixes are totalled when the individual remixes do not differ too much for the original version. If they do they are treated as two separate songs. As far as I can remember, this happened last with will.i.am & Britney Spears' "Scream & Shout" where one remix was treated as a separate song and listed on its own on the digital songs chart (it made the Top 200 with quite high sales in retrospect). For the RIAA it does not matter, all are counted when from the same artist.

Girl Crush should break the top 20 next week when Cole Swindell leaves. Could go one more to #19 if Chris Young leaves as well (not sure about that one).

Boy is this song ever cruising right now. It's up another 494k in audience and 52 spins today, and is up over 1.7 million in audience since Sunday. "Girl Crush" has accumulated 7.2 million in audience and 880 spins on MB over the past 18 days, and is now top 10 (#10) on the iTunes all-genre chart. Plus it's moved up 8 spots the past two weeks on MB (#30 - # 22), and it should move into the top 20 on both MB and Billboard this upcoming chart. I'm assuming LBT will pass Frankie on MB and Darius will be going recurrent, and there's no major threat this week behind them on Billboard, so one spot should be obtainable.

Damn, this is up to #6 (all-genre) on iTunes now, and Meghan Linsey's Voice performance is at #12. Not sure how high her version got - it looks like it may have climbed all the way up to #4 after her performance and is now declining. But LBT has steadily been increasing. kworb.net/pop/

Things couldn't be set up any better for their cma performance, It's like the stars are aligning for it. Damn.
Now I'm hoping some other radio formats are taking note of this song.

It's the ACM Awards that are on Sunday, not the CMA's. :) But I agree, things are looking really good for this one. It's back to #7 on iTunes right now, as Jason Derulo moved back ahead, but this is on pace to sell a lot this week - I'm not really that good at predicting sales numbers, but I think "Girl Crush" could sell upwards of 100,000 downloads (maybe more) this week alone, just based off what we know (its current iTunes performance) and LBT's upcoming ACM performance. The ACM performance will help sales even more, especially next week.

I just heard this in the restaurant I'm in. It's been the only country song I've heard so far, so perhaps that's another sign this song can do no wrong right now, lol.

If they do in fact perform this on Sunday, could this song go #1 on iTunes all-genre? Could Luke's new song?

If they do in fact perform this on Sunday, could this song go #1 on iTunes all-genre? Could Luke's new song? #1 all-genre would be pretty hard to achieve right now. If you check out kworb's site, you can see that there's a huge gap between Wiz Khalifa/Charlie Puth's #1 "See You Again" down to #2 (Walk The Moon's "Shut Up And Dance"). Walk The Moon is currently selling about 40% of what SYA is selling, and SYA just moved to #1 on the Hot 100 with sales of 464,000 in the last week. As I mentioned, "Girl Crush" was able to move ahead of Jason Derulo briefly, but beginning with The Weeknd's "Earned It" at #5, there's a bit of a gap down to #6 and below. Also, this is assuming that Luke is debuting a brand new single. I'm thinking that he will be, but for all we know, he could perform "I See You" or "Games" (or another song from his Spring Break album). But, to answer your question...maybe a brand new Luke Bryan single, or a LBT performance, could send their songs skyrocketing on iTunes, but I don't think either could hold #1 right now, even for a brief moment. I could see a brand new Luke Bryan single rocketing up to #2 and then falling a bit and stabilizing.

Wouldn't shock me in the slightest to see a brand new Luke Bryan single get to #1. It wouldn't hold, but it could definitely do it. "Girl Crush" will likely see a surge and hover around where it is right now (maybe even move into the Top 5...), but I doubt it'll hit #1.

I didn't expect this to hit 6 after the cover on the voice, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this hit #2 after the ama (thanks) performance. I'm hoping its still in the top 20 on iTunes on Sunday before the performance.
My guess is this will sell close to sixty thousand this week. The ama's effect will be the week after.

I'm glad that this is taking off so well now. I didn't quite expect radio to latch onto this the way they suddenly have, but I had a good feeling back when this was slowing down outside the Top 30 and everyone was panicking that it was over that it would survive the rough waters because radio would be stupid not to take advantage of the fanfare this has gotten. Nice to see that they've rectified the situation and that sales continue to go through the roof.

I texted the afternoon guy at WKJC when he was playing it. He told me he's had no complaints, and he thinks most people get what the song is really about.

Two things,
Wow how this song is performing on iTunes, definitely the number one country song on that chart .
And probably no one agrees, But country radio should be jumping on this song harder, it's a huge promotional tool for the format.
I can't wait to see where this lands on iTunes after their performance on the acmcmavmaemtcmt awards show on Sunday night

Mom again: "I just think there should be no reason for a woman to kiss another for any purpose. Women don't think like this. She (the narrator) should be like 'what does she see in him/him in her?' Not 'oh wow I'm obsessed with her because of whom she's with'."
I think mom doesn't understand how envy works. At least she's finally understanding it's not about lesbianism. She still thinks it's gross and unrealistic...

It just always amazes me that people can't comprehend that maybe not everyone thinks exactly like them.

It's more like she can't understand why someone WOULD think that way. She can understand other thoughts in other situations, but not this one.

Meanwhile back at mama's: My mom just ordered Girl Crush shirts because of her love of the song and how much she loves the concept of the song.

It just always amazes me that people can't comprehend that maybe not everyone thinks exactly like them. I agree with this, and if there's one thing I would add to the excellent discussion you folks have been having here, it's that I think that some of the reaction to this song underscores the importance of breaking free of this notion that the only songs worth listening to are the songs that directly reflect our own lives. I've been a long-time objector to the idea of "writing/singing what you know" -- I find it confining, and I much prefer artists who challenge/inspire us to use our imaginations, to step out of our comfort zones and think for a second what it might be like to walk in someone else's shoes. So even if I couldn't understand what it felt like to be so consumed by jealousy of another woman who was with the man I wanted, why wouldn't it be interesting to imagine the character of someone who is? That's the kind of process that should connect us as human beings...and the function of popular music at its core, isn't it? I feel like the last few years at country radio have really drained the characters and the stories from mainstream country, with only some exceptions (Dierks, Miranda, Carrie, Eric & Little Big Town), at the cost of country radio listeners' imaginations. I'm glad to see a bit of pushback against that now, via "Girl Crush."

I don't have a problem with artists singing about similar themes, but at this point, it's become way too common. When even the songwriters are using the excuse that they're "just writing what they know," it comes across as a cop-out to tread the same ground. If radio won't embrace different prospectives, that basically sends a message that the genre is stagnate, and behind culturally in more ways than one. At this point, it's way past the point of embarrassing; it makes the entire genre look bigoted and sexiest.
