Wow. This is one of the songs on the album that I did not expect at all to be next. I love it and I'm looking forward to how it does, but I am worried that this one will be another one to come up short of the top spot for Miranda. Such a lovely song though and anything with LBT harmonies is always nice.

This is a really weird choice for a single. The song itself is good, but I don't like the harmonies. It's got a smooth, relaxed feel, but there's something about them in the verse. It's weird. Maybe it will grow on me.
The thing is, you can't really tell that this is Miranda if you hear it come on the radio. I would think they would pick something to make her stand out solo after Somethin' Bad. Also weird since Little Big Town will have a new single soon.
All things considered, I could see this being a huge, quick radio hit.

I am in love with this song. It does surprise me as a single (it's also a long song) but it's JUST SO GOOD. Ahhhh, can't wait to heat this on the radio. 14887fan must be psyched too!

Well i don't know yet if this will help or hurt LBT's momentum. I figured they would go for a slower type of song after Somethin Bad but i was hoping it wasn't this one since she sounds like a robot on the verses. Hope it can get her a #1 however but i'm not holding my breath

Every year, there's a song or two that get released that I'm totally surprised by and this is one of them. I'm thrilled that this will get a shot at radio, though I'm not optimistic this can go all the way. I would have thought they would want a more sure thing after the barely cracking top 10 peak of "Somethin' Bad".
I'm also glad that "Little Red Wagon" was not the choice as was rumored.

OMG I just died. This might end up being my favorite Miranda song ever. I'm tagging @spiritanimal because I sent this song to her when the album dropped and she loved it.

I absolutely love this song, but I'm not sure it'll get Miranda back to #1. I had thought that this could maybe be a fifth single down the road, but I'm pretty surprised that it's the third single. It's so, so good though, and I can see it being an awards show favourite next year.

OMG Coco in the country thread, I come peacefully dont ban me. I remember Drag sending me this song and I do still love it. Her smokey vocals just have a way of making me forget about anything until the song stops playing. Then my ass is jarred back to reality. That is what real music should do.

Wow, wasn't expecting this to ever get released as a single. Very happy it is though as I really love the song. It's beautiful and LBT are a wonderful addition to it. I like the angelic feel the harmonies have. It's a lot to process the first time you hear it, but after a couple more listen your ears adjust and you realize how gorgeous it is. At least that's how it happened with me. Hoping this will do well and I'm excited to start hearing it on the radio. Can't wait to see Miranda and LBT perform it!

So a question for jhomes87 and sabre14. If this has a "normal" Miranda chart run, when do you think this peaks? This song just makes me think of spring and warmer weather and would love it if it peaks right around the time the temps start changing.

Between this and the news that Girl Crush will be LBT's next single, I'm one very happy camper tonight. Both songs are my favorites off each of their last albums. That said, I'm skeptical about how each will chart. No doubt this one will do better just because that's the way it is these days, but if I can hear both on my radio at some point, that's a minor victory to me.

Wow, like others i'm pretty stunned. Priscilla, Little Red Wagon, or Another Sunday In The South all seemed like pretty safe and good choices for the third single to follow up the relatively low peaking Somethin' Bad. I'm shocked they're going to release two songs in a row with a feature on them, as I thought after sharing the spotlight with Carrie on the last one they would want to reinforce Miranda as a solo artist. I will say though that if every artist keeps picking quality songs (Luke Bryan, Miranda, LBT, Jake Owen, Eric Church, Dierks, soon to be Blake Shelton), radio will have no choice but to have to play at least some of them. The current state of country radio seems to keep improving with each new single announcement we get (At least overall).

Well I'm assuming the add date will be fairly soon after the performance, so that will most likely mean a peak of early to late March. I still am unsure of how well this will do compared to some of her most recent chart topping or near chart topping singles like "Automatic", "Mama's Broken Heart" and "Over You". I think this can go top 5 but perhaps a slightly slower climb than normal for Miranda.

Did not see that coming at all. I'm obviously in the minority here, but I don't really like this. It's better than "Somethin' Bad" and he rumoured "Little Red Wagon" but it's still pretty average.

This is just an all around head scratcher. You can't even tell this is a Miranda song, plus why on earth would she release back-to-back duets. I wasn't crazy about many of the other choices rumored (I particularly hate Little Red Wagon, but I'm not crazy about Priscilla or Platinum either), but at least those would have made sense as singles. I don't hate this, but I hope they release a version without the autotune or whatever the awful vocal effects on the verses are. Just completely ruins the song for me. The harmonies on the chorus are excellent, but it doesn't make up for how bad the verses sound. I do like the smokey sound they were going for, I just wish it were executed better.

This song is "featuring" LBT. It's not like "SB" where Carrie had her own parts. I'm not one to force a song on people, but for people who don't love this at first, give it a few more listens. It took me a few but now this is far and away my favorite Miranda song (and I adore her entire catalog so that's saying a lot).

Personally I would like the song a heck of a lot more without the added vocal effects, it's really distracting and unnecessary. I also agree that it's strange for miranda to be releasing another single with a guest artist back to back. Wishing that Another Sunday in the South or Babies Makin Babies would have been chosen instead :(

Nothing wrong with a Traditional Country song from Miranda Lambert. So glad she's deciding on this song!! Little Big Town singing on it makes it even more special.

I may be wrong, but I think for it to be a duet, each act has to have a solo part in it. Which Karen does not have. I do understand your point however.

This is going to fall in the category of hit song that I'm destined to just not get. "Smokin' & Drinkin'" has grown on me somewhat as I've listened to Platinum, but I just haven't been able to get over the lack of melody, the lack of build, and especially the anonymity of the vocal performances (due in part to vocal production effects already mentioned by kw9461 and countryqueen). I don't know how one gets Miranda Lambert and Little Big Town on the same song and winds up with a recording that sounds like it could be anyone singing, as @nickv1025 noted, but that just feels wrong to me. The lyrics feel surprisingly generic after the first two lines considering the songwriters involved, and there isn't enough internal play to redeem their ordinariness. I appreciate the hazy, quiet storm-ish vibe that this song aims for and understand that it fits with the nostalgia of the lyrics, but I just don't connect to it, at all. What I have to come to appreciate over time about the song is the instrumentation, but I fear that will be cut in the radio edit. If RCA Nashville was going to go for a ballad, I would have much preferred "Holding on to You" or "Girls," the former for its soulful melody and intimate vocal, the latter for its messaging, its melody and the way you can still hear Miranda's distinctive phrasing despite all the production on her voice. Both were stronger selling album tracks during the week of Platinum's release (my other preferred ballad, "Babies Makin' Babies," was not among Platinum's best-selling album tracks). That said, this sparked quite an enthusiastic reaction among fans when the album came out, so like I said, I accept that I'm just not hearing what others are, and I hope that its release proves to be a curveball that pays off.

As someone who certainly did NOT like "Somethin' Bad" (it was just a headache when it came on), I love this single choice. One of the best songs on the album. I think this and then "Another Sunday in the South" coming out of the winter months would be perfect for the rest of this album cycle.

I'm absolutely shocked this is the next single, it seems like a risky choice.
It took awhile for this to grow on me, but I love the kinda haunting, sober mystique LBT adds to it.

The radio edit will also take away from the song I fear. The instrumentation at the beginning will be cut off considerably I'm sure. This is definitely a choice I was not expecting, even though I'm a fan of this song. It's going to sound different from anything else on the radio and that can either pay off or not. The fact Miranda has had some minor struggles lately with the performance of her singles ("All Kinds Of Kinds" not making the top 10, "Automatic" needing a big push to get it to #! on MB, and "Somethin' Bad" failing to make the top 5 as the second single from Platinum), I hope RCA has a good feeling about how this will perform. I echo someguy's thoughts that this would have been the fifth single released if at all, and not third in line. I expect this to make the top 10 but can it become a contender for #1 is a question I continue to ask myself.

I want it released next too! Second favorite song afters this one on that amazing CD> But does it fit for winter? I think it's a summerish type song. Look at the opening lines: Only thing moving out here is this swing on the front porch And the sun's beating down heatin' up this house like blow torch Sitting here singing Dixie with a whistle Man, it's hotter than a two-dollar pistol Baby, I know that it's only 11:30 But sure as hell or high water I'm gettin' kinda thirsty I don't need your mama's lemonade I need something from a can or a bottle on ice

I was saying like as the winter months start to wind down it'd be a good time to release it. With the weather starting to change and everyone wanting the warmer weather.
