Hello everyone! I am Jake and today, I am debuting my personal chart: The Jboard Top 40. This chart will be updated every Monday starting tonight! This chart is a little unique and you probably won't see another one like it. 2/3rd's of what determine this chart are my personal faves and the other 1/3rd is predictions of where these songs will go on the Hot 100. Most of these songs in the top 40 are also in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100, however, there will be some instances where a personal fave of mine will do well on my chart, but not on the Hot 100 and vice versa. I've been creating my own charts since May 2013 and now, I finally have the opportunity to share them with you! Hope you enjoy everyone! I really enjoy most of these. I'm especially glad to see "Blame", "Animals", "Habits", "Take Me to Church", "I'm Not the Only One", "Love Me Harder", and "Don't Tell 'Em" in the top ten. Great chart! :)

Ladies and gentlemen, I know this is only my first week here, but I am really excited for what lies ahead. This past week, I have been preparing to take the Jboard to the next level. I'm talking a new chart, a brand new points system that'll determine where each song ranks (kinda like the Hot 100 formula), and a lot more! I'll have more details as I figure everything out. Peace out!

Before I give you the announcement, first off, I wanna give a special thank you to everyone who has viewed this page, liked it, and followed it. I have a lot of things planned to show you all! As you may have read before, I am giving the Jboard a whole new look! Starting soon, I will debut the Jboard Top 40 in its new form! Before I tell you about the new chart, let me give you a brief history of the Jboard chart:
The majority of my life, I really didn't listen to mainstream music. In fact, the majority of my childhood, I listened to oldies and classic music with my parents. And I thought those songs were fantastic. I think the first time I heard some mainstream music came in 2010 or 2011, when I heard some songs from the artists at the time including The Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Adele. Then, in late 2012, when I was 18, I learned of the Hot 100 and mainstream radio. And most of the songs I heard that day sounded great, and so I decided to make mainstream music my main source for listening to music. The first four months of 2013, I learned over 1000 popular songs over the past 10 years that I'd missed out on. I got to learn numerous artist names and I learned how the Hot 100 worked. On May 3, 2013, I debuted my very first chart. My original chart consisted of my top 125 songs, which extended to 150 later that year. Due to time consumption, I cut it back down to 125 in May 2014, then back down to 100 last September. Every Friday and Monday for the past 18 months, I have been updating the chart. There have been to date 17 #1's. At least 75% of the songs on the Hot 100 were in that chart and the other 25% or less consisted of old songs and classics which would occasionally go up depending on what I've heard about it or the occasion. (E.g. Thriller is in the 70's section of 100 because of Halloween) The majority of my chart is personal favorites, however, there have been a few songs that I don't like, but have done well on the Hot 100. The current chart of songs I don't particularly like right now include I don't f**k w/ you, Hot Boy, and Lifestyle. They rank high on the Hot 100, but are not of my preference, which is why you see them in the lower 40. Some others problems I've seen in the chart have led me to make a new chart. And here's how I plan to do it:
The Hot 100, as many of you may know, is determined by a formula. Sales + Radio + Streaming. I did some research into the details of the formula and I also looked into Billboard's chart archives and I have noticed a similar pattern in my charts that could allow me to create an accurate formula for the Jboard. My favorites is 2/3rds of the factor and the Billboard chart is 1/3rd of the factor of what determines which song goes where. And I thought: What if I convert that to points just like Billboard does when they collect the data of each song? I thought of a fair way to determine each rank and I have an option for each song's score:
(Personal score * 6) + (Billboard rank * 3) + (Other * 1) = Score
Each section will be scored from 0 to 100. For Personal Score, think of it as a grading scale. 100-90 is an A, 89-80 is a B, 79-70 is a C, 69-60 is a D, and 59-0 is an F. This'll be my own personal grade of each song, which will be determined based on the rhythm, the lyrics, the beat, the message, the voice, and how old/young the song is, which will be the main determinant for this section. Note how I did NOT say author. Every author deserves a chance in the Jboard. For Billboard rank, the score will determined by its position on the Hot 100. If it's #1, it gets 100 points, if it's #2, it gets 99 points, #3, 98 points, and so on. If it's not on the Hot 100, it gets no points. The other score will be determined on the song and author's outside accomplishments and it's rank on the other Billboard charts. In theory, a perfect score for a week is 1000 points and 52000 points for a year. The year ends ranks will begin with the first week of December 2014 and end with the last week in November 2015, just like Billboard.
Alright, what do you all think? You wanna see the Jboard with the new formula? You think it should be changed? You think I should stick with the method you're seeing? Just let me know. Like, follow, and comment your opinions. Thanks!

To Lahey,
I am aware Break Free isn't new (it actually peaked at #2 on the Jboard in August), but although it's in a free fall on the Hot 100, it racked up enough points under the new points system to make the top 40. That and 2 other songs in the same situation: Chandelier (peaked at #9) and Stay with me (peaked at #2 in July). I'm only counting the statistics from when I started the chart on the forum. A lot of the songs here have spent at least 10 weeks on the chart, but I didn't want to go into the trouble of digging up a lot of archives to get the exact number of weeks.
I am a big fan of Zedd as well. Thank you for your feedback.

The new Jboard has 75 spots and each week, you only get to see the Top 40. But it doesn't mean I can't share with you songs that have the potential to make the cut soon! Here's a look at 3 songs that have the best potential to enter/re-enter the top 40 soon:
1. Hold you down. Currently with 688 points, 1 point was the difference between making the cut and not making it. It's slowly making its way up the Hot 100 at #43 (giving it a 58/100 in the Hot 100 score, which counts for 30% of the points), however, I gave it a personal score (which counts for 60% of the points) of 74/100 and it's other score (10%) is 70/100.
2. The heart wants what it wants. It debuted at #54 this week with 655 points (95/100 Personal score, 0/100 Hot 100 score, and 85/100 other) despite a no show on the Hot 100, however, with its Hot 100 debut coming soon, it should debut really well assuming its personal score and other score is high. And a side note to everyone who suggests me a song that you'd like to see on my chart: I will take a listen to it, however, if it's a song that has a slim chance of entering the Hot 100, the maximum score it'll get is 700 points (100/100 personal score and 100/100 other with a 0/100 Billboard score). And if you took note of the points breakdown, only 2 songs with less than 700 points made the cut. So it's possible to see your recommendation on my chart, but don't expect it to soar high if it doesn't make a Billboard entrance.
3. Dangerous. I love EDM and I have a lot of faith in this song, but I'm really hoping it finds a way to go up the Hot 100, it's already a success internationally. It only got 624 points (88/100 PS, 7/100 Hot 100, and 75/100 other) and it fell to #58, down 19 positions. A song currently on the Hot 100 I really like, but suffered because of its Hot 100 ranking, met the same fate. LA Love currently has 767 points (93/100 PS, 38/100 Hot 100, 95/100 Other), falling 12 spots to #30.

Ten things to know/look for for this weekend's Jboard Top 40:
- Love Me Harder is looking for a second week at #1. - Blank Space will most likely be going up and will be challenging the #1 spot next week, but how far will it go this week? - Does Sam Smith or Maroon 5 have a chance for the #1 spot? - Will LA Love rebound? - Is Lips are movin' going to be a future #1? - Thanks to a strong sales week and the CMA's, is Something in the Water going to threaten the top 20, maybe even 15? - Ghost, Only, Hold you down, and Dangerous all have a chance to re-enter. - The heart wants what it wants has a chance to make the cut. - Expect a lot of dropouts this week. - Expect anything to happen!

Attention: Starting this Friday, I will be updating my charts every Friday instead of every Sunday due to the new layout of the Jboard chart. I promise you, this will be the last time for a while I make a major change to the thread as I have now fully adapted to the forum. So here's what you can expect to see each day on the Jboard 40 thread:
Sunday through Tuesday: I will post any major movement I see during the week for specific songs, plus I will post full time in the topics section and the polls section, so you can expect to see me in a lot of threads.
Wednesday: I will post the top 10 spoiler for the next Hot 100 chart, plus any other information I know.
Thursday: I'll be posting a good, bad, etc section of Hot 100 observations/opinions, plus I will reveal the top 10 of my next chart.
Friday: I update the Jboard chart.
Saturday: Starting December 6, on Saturdays, I will be posting a season end chart (which is kind of like the year end chart Billboard has) and a year end chart later on as the year progresses.
Like, follow, and support Jboard. Also give us your feedback on the chart, I'd love to hear from you all. Thank you!

Here's my list of observations/opinions about today's Hot 100, plus the top 10 of tomorrow's Jboard 40 update:
Good: Animals made top 3, Love Me Harder made the top 10, Take Me to Church continues to rise, I'm not the only one is almost in the Top 10 and so is Blank Space, Something in the Water is back in the top 30 and so is Centuries, i still rises, Lips are movin' made top 50, Heroes continues to rise, In your arms is gaining again, and Dangerous is climbing.
Bad: Hot Boy is #6, Black Widow, Rather Be, and Cool Kids are all officially done, I don't f**k with you is in the top 15 (and made the cut in the Jboard 40 because of the points system), Anaconda rebounded, Only is going up, Try me is almost top 50, and 3 songs are stalling: Waves, LA Love, and Ghost.
And your top 10 for tomorrow's Jboard chart:
1. Love me harder (even) (2nd week at top) 2. I'm not the only one (up 1) 3. Blank Space (up 7) 4. Animals (down 2) 5. Don't (down 1) 6. Blame (down 1) 7. Take me to church (up 1) 8. Something in the water (up 20) 9. Waves (up 2) 10. The heart wants what it wants (new)

Which song do you want to see get the next #1 first (on the Hot 100)? Animals or Blank Space?
And which song do you want to see get the next #1 on my chart?

Just a quick announcement here: Starting in 2 weeks, we will begin the 2014 Jboard music tournament, which consists of a field of 64 songs and 4 major divisions representing the four seasons. (Since the points system for the chart was installed this month, next year when the points tracking period is over (December 2014 - November 2015), we will do the tournament in a field of 64 and the songs will be seeded based on their finish on the year end chart.) The best 16 songs of each season will be placed in the appropriate division, and then starting December 1 and ending December 2, for 48 hours via a poll, for each division, you get to pick 8 songs that get to advance to the next round. To make it a fair competition, I am going to do a closed results poll for each round so that you don't have to feel like you have to vote for a certain song just because everyone else is. This is YOUR own opinion, this is YOUR own vote. When the polling period is over, you will all see the results. December 3-4, in round 2, 4 songs in each division advance. December 5-6, Sweet 16, 2 songs in each division advance. December 7-9, Elite 8, we will crown each division winner. December 10-12, Final 4, the Winter division winner will take on the Fall division winner and then the Spring division winner will take on the Summer division winner. December 13-15 is the championship round and whoever wins those 2 matchups will go head to head for the title!
Although I already know my 2014 song of the year, I would like to make this fun and see which song YOU all think should be the champ! I am really looking forward to doing this and may the best song win!

So... T-Swift may have a chance at dethroning Ariana Grande this Friday on the Jboard 40 as Blank Space is more than likely to hit the top 5 of the Hot 100 in a few days. It's going to be a close race, that's for sure. Sam Smith made gains and will most likely still be in the top 3 too. That's all I know, when the top 10 of Thursday's Hot 100 is revealed, I'll know who'll get the #1 spot.

It's official: With 970 points, Blank Space will be the next #1 on this Friday's Jboard and I'm not the only one will stay at #2 with 947 points! Since Love Me Harder isn't in the top 10, the highest it could rank is #11 tomorrow on the Hot 100 and the maximum amount of points it can score is 939, which will give her 3rd place at best. More info coming as I calculate the other totals tomorrow and post the next chart this Friday!

Opinions/observations:
Good: Blank Space is the new #1 just like I thought, Take me to church has almost broken the top 5, Hot Boy went down, I'm not the only one cracked the top 10, Don't is almost top 10 again, No Type and Waves continue to climb up, Centuries continues to rise, Riptide survived the long climb and is now an official hit, Lips are movin' hit top 40, LA Love finally went up again, Beg for it continues to rise, Stolen Dance made it to the top 50, Girl in a country song continues to go up, Heroes climbs, Dangerous rises, Close your eyes rises, Yellow Flicker Beat re-enters, Outside rises, and She Knows debuts.
Surprised: Jealous hit top 10
Bad: Still need to get Bass out of the top 3, Tuesday is almost top 10 and so is I don't f**k with you, Only rises, Try Me hit top 50, i fell, In your arms is falling, and both Superheroes and Ghost may be flops.

3 weeks down with the new Jboard format. My initial goal with this was to keep the competition close, make every week unpredictable, and give every song a chance to do well. So far, I think it's working. As I put the points system to practice, the difference between 1 and 40 has gone from 213 to 249 to 239, a little more than I expected. I'd like to give Waves, La Love, and maybe, if it scores high on the Hot 100, Ghosts a chance at #1. All great songs. What do you all think? Points system working? Should I adjust the formula? Let me know and as always, like and comment the Jboard. Thanks everyone.

So I've been looking at other personal charts and I thought I'd adapt a new look to the chart, plus to prepare for the 2015 music season, after 19 months of making charts, it's time to give the chart a new name and a new makeover. Here's what I was thinking: JL44's Top 44. Why 44? 44 was the number in my first social media account, just a little history lesson. Instead of posting it through a chart format, I will post it line by line. It would save me some time and effort when posting the weekly chart. Flipmusic is actually the one who I should thank, their personal chart was the one that gave me the best idea for this. Using this week's chart, here's what the chart will look like:
JL44's Top 44 as of 11•28•14:
Layout: TW, LW, Peak, Wks on chart, Pts, Song and Author(s), Notes/Accomplishments Key: RE - re-entry, *N - new, X - out Color Code: red- down, orange- re-enter, gold- even, green- up, blue- new, purple- longest chart sitter (22 songs tied at 5 weeks) Songs in bold: songs that gained points
