Giorgio Moroder to Release First Studio Album in Over 30 YearsBy Mitchell Peters | November 17, 2014 9:15 AM EST The long-awaited album will feature Britney Spears, Sia, Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue and others. Giorgio Moroder is back with a new solo album! The legendary producer and songwriter, who helped invent disco in the 1970s with Donna Summer before conjuring the ’80s synth sound of film soundtracks, will release his first solo album in more than 30 years in spring 2015. Giorgio Moroder: Daft Punk's Disco Don Reflects on His Remarkable Re-Emergence (Exclusive) Moroder’s long-awaited forthcoming album will feature collaborations with Britney Spears, Sia, Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue, Mikky Ekko, Foxes, Matthew Koma and others. He has signed a worldwide deal with Sony Music International for the release of the set, which will arrive on RCA Records in the United States. "Sony/RCA constitutes one of the most groundbreaking histories in the world,” Moroder said in a statement. “As my new label, I believe my record will live up to their history, but more importantly, pave the way for the future! Sony from here to eternity." To celebrate the announcement of his new album, 74-year-old Moroder released the first music video from the set, appropriately titled “74 Is the New 24." "Dance music doesn’t care where you live,” Moroder said of the new track. “It doesn’t care who your friends are. It doesn’t care how much money you make. It doesn't care if your 74 or if you are 24 because... 74 is the new 24!” Moroder catapulted back into the spotlight with an unexpected starring role on Daft Punk’s 2013 megahit release Random Access Memories -- a four-time Grammy Award winner, including album of the year. In addition to recently remixing Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett’s “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love” and Coldplay’s “Midnight,” he has also been DJ’ing at music festivals around the globe. Source

It's not even 2015 yet, but this has to be at the top of the Grammy front-runner list already.
Legendary artist + returning after long hiatus + Pop Icons + Today's Pop Darlings = Critical darling AND sales potential.
There's something about him coming back after 30 years with the opportunity to son all the other EDM artists he paved the way for that's irresistible.

There's something about him coming back after 30 years with the opportunity to son all the other EDM artists he paved the way for that's irresistible. I think it will be a really great project. Giorgio did do a few productions and remixes here and there throughout the last few years, but this is a proper return. It's amazing that the sound he pioneered all those years ago still sounds fresh today. From the 90s until recently, he did do remixes for Berlin, Blondie, Coldplay, Donna Summer, Enrique Iglesias, Eurythmics, Haim, Mirwais Ahmadzai, and Texas. The Coldplay and Haim ones were done in the last year.

The Sia song preview!
This album is going to slay me this summer. It already makes me want to take quaaludes and make out with a pool raft.

The preview of "Deja Vu" is amazing! I love that the song has traces of Giorgio's work on the Donna Summer double album Once Upon A Time. Giorgio's still got it!

Waiting for this. The Sia song is awesome and "Right Here" is probably the best song I've gotten into since WFL.

EDM Godfather Giorgio Moroder Raves About Recording With Britney Spears: 'She Sounds So Good'By Rob Tannenbaum | May 08, 2015 12:46 PM EDT How did a 75-year-old become one of the hottest DJs in the EDM scene? Giorgio Moroder is enjoying a late-career renaissance, while a new generation of electronic musicians honors him as a pioneer in the field -- a producer and songwriter who created Donna Summer's string of smash hits in the 1970s ("Hot Stuff," "I Feel Love," "Last Dance") and also has worked with Blondie, David Bowie, Janet Jackson, Elton John, Barbra Streisand and, more recently, Daft Punk, Lady Gaga, Coldplay and Skrillex. The plaudits in his distinguished career include three Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, four Grammys and more than 100 gold and platinum records. The mischievous, Italian-born Moroder met with Billboard to discuss his new album, Deja Vu -- the first under his own name in more than 30 years, out June 16 on RCA -- his disdain for drugs and other wisdom he has gathered through the decades. EMBRACE YOUR LIMITATIONS "I'm not a great musician. I'm OK to play chords, I know a little bit of the laws of harmony, but when it comes to technique, I'm not good. And I'm happy about that." KNOW WHOM TO CALL "I make nice demos, and for that I only need four fingers. Then I use the best musicians I can find." HEED YOUR PROGENY "Two years ago, David Guetta was lecturing me: 'You have no idea what you're getting into. You find a drum sound, and in six months, it's out.' The problem now is, every EDM song has incredible sounds." KICK OUT THE ENTOURAGE "If you're convinced you have a hit song and the singer isn't convinced, the only thing you can do is say, 'Trust me.' With Donna Summer, it was difficult to get her to do the moaning on 'Love to Love You Baby.' She did a little on the three-minute single, but when I did the 17-minute version, there was a long section where I needed more. That didn't work so well at first. There were too many people in the control room -- her husband, a technician, a friend, musicians. She couldn't let loose. So I threw everybody out. I took all the lights down. And suddenly, she did it. Once it was recorded, I took the tape away before she could come in and erase it." DON'T WORK WITH BANDS "I usually don't work with rock groups. Blondie's 'Call Me.' There were always fights. I was supposed to do an album with them after that. We went to the studio, and the guitarist was fighting with the keyboard player. I called their manager and quit."
REPEAT: DON'T WORK WITH BANDS "I want to come in, be in charge and have the songs ready. Do you remember A-ha? They came to Los Angeles to record with me. They were supposed to come to the studio at one o'clock to start, and at six o'clock, they still were not there. The next day, same thing. So I left. Life is too short to work with bands."
KEEP YOUR PASSPORT HANDY "My first hit ["Love to Love You Baby"] was in 1976. Donna wanted to move from Germany to L.A., so I did too, in 1980, when I was 40. If you make it in America, you make it worldwide."
JUST SAY NO "I'm probably the only guy in Los Angeles who never took coke. I'd come to the studio around noon, work until seven, then go home and have dinner. The second I was out the door, piles of coke would come out."
GO THE EXTRA MILE FOR BRITNEY "On my new album, Britney Spears wanted to do the Suzanne Vega song 'Tom's Diner.' The song doesn't have a big range, and I added a bridge and some instrumental stuff. Britney sounds so good, you would hardly recognize her."
GREED IS GOOD "Money is very important in a music career. The more you make, the more active you are, and the more you want to do good songs. [In the early '70s] I was all by myself in Berlin, and didn't have any way to make money except to have a hit. I had one relatively fast, but it took almost a year for the money to come in. You have to eat."
DON'T SELL YOURSELF SHORT "Publishing is for life. Keep as much of it as you can. I sold my publishing in the late '80s, because I got a big offer. My excuse is, who knew there would be so many new revenue streams? All the commercials use music now. I tried to buy it back, from Warner/Chappell. They said, 'No. We don't sell -- we buy.' "

Last weekend, three songs from the album leaked and they were "Diamonds", "Don't Let Go" and "Back and Forth". My favourite from the three was the Charli XCX track, which I think that if it's handled properly, it could be a crossover. Having said that, the Mikky Ekko and Kelis tracks are also too good honestly.

Can't believe this guy produced a bunch of songs on Janet Jackson's biggest flop, DREAM STREET. Hold Back The Tears and If It Takes All Night are my favorite songs on the album too, the rest (communication, two to the power of love and dream street) he can keep.

Even the best producers have a few not-so-good ones. Thankfully Control was her breakthrough.

Everything I've heard from this album has been fire. Don't Let Go is the closest to a flop, but only because an overblown disco ballad needs bigger vocals. Throw Adam Lambert on that, and it's the perfect level of cheesy.
The Kelis track that leaked and then disappeared is the best I've heard, though. Pure sultry disco sex. This is the Pop album of the Summer easily.

Glad the leaked version of 'Tom's Diner' was the final master and not that raw mess that leaked. It's the best song on what sounds like an overall fantastic record. Only two I didn't get into were the Sia one and Matthew Koma.

Could this album be a serious contender for some Grammy love this year? I think it could sneak in a few categories, but it's hard to pin down where they'd submit it. I do think RCA is going to give this a big push come submission/nomination time, though. The majority of the featured artists on here are on RCA as well, so they've got a lot of stock in on it. It fills a lot of criteria that often get love from the committee: 1) Legendary Artist making a comeback 2) HUGE Current Pop Names (Used in unexpected ways, like Britney) 3) "Tribute" sound, but Modern (a la Random Access Memories) 4) Mainstream Pop, but still underground/hip enough to not lose "elite" cred they like to pretend they have. Additional question: Who is this Marlene?! I can't find anything!
