YOUR TOP 15: One Direction will score their fourth #1 album as Taylor Swift drops to runner-up. RCA’s Pentatonix, meanwhile, see a big uptick for their Christmas set as we enter the holiday home stretch, and Disney’s songs-only Frozen set gives the frosty franchise a fresh tailwind. 1. One Direction (SYCO/Columbia) 400-425k 2. Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 200-225k 3. Pentatonix (RCA) 95-105k 4. Nickelback (Republic) 65-70k 5. Garth Brooks (Pearl/RCA Nashville) 60-65k 6. Foo Fighters (Roswell/RCA) 40-45k 7. Pink Floyd (Columbia) 40-45k 8. Michael Bublé (Reprise) 30-35k 9. Cities 97 Sampler, Vol. 26 (KTCZ) 30-35k 10. Idina Menzel (Warner Bros.) 30-35k 11. Sam Smith (Capitol) 28-32k 12. Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Vol. 1 (Republic) 25-28k 13. Frozen: The Songs (Disney) 24-27k 14. In This Moment (Atlantic) 24-27k 15. Barbra Streisand (Columbia) 24-27k In case you’re wondering, the Cities 97 Sampler is Minneapolis Adult Alternative outlet KTCZ’s collection of in-studio peformances by Echosmith, Aloe Blacc, Mary Lambert, The 1975, Bleachers, ZZ Ward and American Authors, among others. Retail action looks to be strong throughout the Great Lakes region. (11/20p) YOUR NEW RELEASES: One Direction will take the top spot on next week’s HITS Album Sales Chart, temporarily unseating three-week champ Taylor Swift (who just passed the 2 million RTD mark). Here are this week’s key debuts: One Direction (SYCO/Columbia) 400-425k Nickelback (Republic) 60-65k In This Moment (Atlantic) 24-27k Hunger Games: Mockingjay... (Republic) 21-24k Punk Goes Pop, Vol. 6 (Fearless) 15-17k Cole Swindell (Warner Bros. Nashville) 15-17k Trisha Yearwood (Gwendolyn/RCA Nashville) 10-12k TV on the Radio (Harvest) 10-12k And in case you hadn't heard, 1D fanatics, Zayn Malik has returned to the group after a brief illness, so you'll want to affix the hashtag #ZaynIsBack to all your communications. (11/19p)#1 DIRECTION: According to very, very early reads, FOUR, the new set from SYCO/Columbia's One Direction, looks set to bow in the vicinity of 400-450k next week. Stay tuned for updated projections; 1D have naturally been looming large at iTunes (see below) on both the album and singles sides. (11/18p)

Good for them. 4 platinum albums in under 3 years is pretty impressive.

The downturn was expected given the lighter buzz + comparatively weak opening sales # for "Steal My Girl." But 400-450K is still one Hell of a figure for any act, let alone one in a genre that typically doesn't produce huge fourth albums (or fourth albums at all).

Great numbers. The WW numbers will be very high as well. Plus, I'm guessing it might trend up closer to 500k here in the US.

Terrible (but again - not unexpected, the buzz that erupted over the setlist wasn't there for the release) number for Hunger Games.

Hunger Games should sell fairly consistently (even if not huge numbers) for the next few weeks as the movie buzz draws more attention to it.

For sure -- I'd even expect the estimate to grow significantly once everybody sees the movie this weekend. But this clearly didn't click as an independent, must-own album despite all the buzz.

The last soundtrack didn't sell either, at least on the level of the first one.
Consumers aren't jumping on these the way the Twilight fans gobbled up those first few releases.

55-60K for Nickelback!? And here I predicted that they would open with 180-200K. LMAO.

400k would be a good debut for the album.

Wow...album sales are truly dismal. I do wonder what the future of purchasing music will be. Will we move to nothing but streaming music all the time? When will the "selling" of music eventually move to a thing of the past? Or has it already? And how will this affect the music industry as a whole--not just artists, but producers, writers, record labels?
Just some things to ponder.

4.9 million albums were sold 2 weeks ago in the USA.
Not 490,000 albums.
4.9 million albums.
Times 52 weeks a year that's 260 million albums a year.
It's not what it used to be in 2000, but I don't think we should be talking about the selling of music being in the past.

^LOL. No. 402,000 were from 1989.
Albums sales are going to be around for a while.

I knew Nickelback would open under 100k; their mainstream popularity seems to have waned considerably and neither of their singles made much impact outside their core format.

Eventually it's going to be majority of revenue from touring and long term residencies...look at Calvin Harris, he doesn't have strong album or digital sales but he made $66 million last year due to his Las Vegas residency etc

Artists might get $1 per album sale if they have writing or production credits on the songs. If they don't, they're getting even less. And that's assuming they aren't getting royally screwed by their labels the way artists like TLC and Toni Braxton were back in the day. Artists have long made their money from successful touring and merchandising.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6320012/one-direction-four-400000-debutOne Direction's 'Four' Heading for 400,000-Plus DebutBy Keith Caulfield | November 18, 2014 7:20 PM EST 1D set for second-largest sales week of 2014. Pop group One Direction is on course for its fourth No. 1 album in less than three years, as Four is set to debut atop the Billboard 200 next week. Industry sources suggest the album could sell over 420,000 copies in the week ending Nov. 23. If Four sells as expected, it would secure the second-largest sales week of 2014, behind only Taylor Swift's 1.287 million bow with 1989. One Direction's likely No. 1 bow will be announced on Nov. 26. Until then, the latest Billboard 200 chart, reflecting the sales week ending Nov. 16, will be unveiled on Nov. 19. It is presumed Swift's 1989 will lead for a third straight week. One Direction's new album was released on Nov. 17 through SYCO/Columbia Records, and is the vocal quartet's fourth studio release. It follows the No. 1-debuting albums Up All Night (released in 2012), Take Me Home (2012) and Midnight Memories (2013). The latter album arrived atop the list with 546,000 sold according to Nielsen SoundScan -- the largest sales week for One Direction.

Nickelback's release felt very quiet. There has been almost no promotion on radio or TV.

I was hoping the release strategy could benefit TVOTR. They deserve love and sales but the buzz for them after Dear Science has declined. They also don't have big enough radio hits to make up for that.
