I like 5SOS and also this song when the Romantics did it, but it's been recycled to death in commercials, movies, video games, etc. How about another original song, or at least a less overplayed cover?

Whoa! A straight up cover song? I didn't know those still existed.
They actually put a pretty fun spin on this.

Wow i'm shocked. Its not even on their album. Just the SLSP EP. I dont get the thinking behind this at all. GG seems like a perfect hit. They write most of their stuff and now they will be called a cover band. This is an awful choice.

Wow. It's a fun song, but I didn't think they'd go with this. My vote was Good Girl or End Up Here. This could work though if they do it right.

Are they really covering the Romantics?! Blah. They have potential but this is not how they could realize that potential at all. The original is a fun song but even nowadays I'm prone to switching a station if I hear it --too overplayed! Not looking forward to hearing a group like 5SOS doing this... Will give it a shot but not confident about the resilrsb

I wonder why they're releasing a cover song (that's not even on the album to top it off) to radio. They should have just done something from the album. When was the last time a cover song actually had success? This isn't too bad though, but still.

It's also tacked on to their just-announced live album that's out December 15.

When was the last time a cover song actually had success? 2005's "Listen to Your Heart" comes to mind as far as hugely successful. Anyone recall a successful one past that? 2008 saw Cascada's cover of "What Hurts the Most", but that was at best a minor hit.

It's also tacked on to their just-announced live album that's out December 15. This will probably be a minor hit (30s?) as a promo for the album. I just hope radio accepts their next single from their incredible debut album when they get back to it early next year, and if their label has any common sense at all it will still be "Good Girls." I'm wondering if they plan a new studio album next Summer to go along with their first arena tour. That would be the 1 year mark from their debut and being managed by the same who manage 1D I wouldn't be surprised if they do yearly albums too. If this is the case then we may get a brand new single next Spring instead of another release from the debut.

I don't understand this, if they want something catchy and uptempo they have their own Don't stop.
Right now it's difficult to find success with a cover, first with youtube you can listen old songs so it's like everything depended on radio (where some songs didn't get airplay for years), second with talent shows people are used to very different covers, a cover that only is putting the sond with a nowadays sound it will be watched as a lazy attempt.
So or you find a great song that didn't get success with the original singer or you made a cover that not even the creator recognize the song (a la Bizarre love triangle)

They need to slow down with the album releases, damn like 5 EP/albums released this year alone... and they have only released 2 singles here (and soon to be this one ) And skipped over my two favorites "Don't Stop" and "Good Girls" Dafuq is their label doing?!?

Especially when they are such great songwriters. A cover for a single is a slap in the face from their label.

They try to sell an image outside of the typical boyband, but they are acting like a typical boyband. Boybands lifespan is short, but back in the 90's successful boybands release at least 4 singles per album. Now OD strategy seems to be adopted by others. I know the continuous release of albums is very profitable for OD, but in the end it's damaging their longevity as band, specially if they don't chose well the singles. OD is trying a more mature sound, but with their continuous release of albums they are going to saturate the market. Instead of that they should release more singles and let the people realize their changes and grows up (after a couple of bad reviews of their album, the ones i read lately are way more positive, some of them very veyr positive). 5SOS had the big advantage that they play instruments in every video, the transition to pop band could be way easier. Of course they only have one album and it's difficult to predict what is going to happen. That strategy has another problem, sometimes after a successful album it comes a flop, so they are shortened their successful period when they could enlarge it which could make easier a successful come back. When you are in the music business you have to play with time. Waiting too much for an album after a big success is a mistake (an put a lot of preassure on the artist) but being too fast generally don't work either (unless you are Rihanna, she can be constantly on radio without any negative effect)

Goes for adds next week apparently
Why this song though? They could've gone with "Good Girls" or something like "Mrs. All American" but they go with this instead? :/

It'd been at the promotional forefront for a while, so it's not like the label could have completely overlooked it.

Yeah Last successful covers I can recall were those Cascada dance mixes, which were reworks of the original songs (from ballad or country to dance). This one is straight up same song. Their AMAs performance was energetic but didn't excite me because I've fucking heard the same structure/arrangements for over 30 years! They are great live and have good music to differentiate from typical boy bands but this type of release doesn't help their case at all

I thought this was an odd choice for them to perform on The American Music Awards. I liked "Amnesia" so I was looking forward to their next release but a cover song this early in their career is not the way to go.

I thought this was an odd choice for them to perform on The American Music Awards. I liked "Amnesia" so I was looking forward to their next release but a cover song this early in their career is not the way to go. I just don't see why their record label would go this way. I'm a huge 5SOS fan and even have their pre fame EPs so for me to criticize them is rare. But this is one of the worst decisions I've ever seen made for a new act that has so much hype and already built in fan base like they do. It would have been like One Direction following up WBYM with "One Way or Another" on American radio. That would have been suicide. I fear for that this is going to do for 5SOS's radio credibility. Their debut album got mostly great reviews and so many songs from it sound like modern radio. For their label to do this defies all logic. It's going completely against what 5SOS said they want to be going for in their career, to be known for their songwriting of Pop-Punk songs. This ain't it by a long shot! Whoever decided this at their label doesn't just need fired, he/she needs to be taken around the entire music industry on a tour of someone to look as an example of who should never been hired to work in the industry in the first place.

I still have yet to understand why they went with this. It's predictably moving a lot slower than their last two singles, and I expect it to flame out before reaching 2000 spins. Its iTunes performance is also horrible, while "Good Girls" and "Don't Stop" are still selling decently. They clearly should've went with either of those.
