The writing on ArtPop is definitely pretentious. Musically, there are some real gems on the album, but she went out of her way to try to write artsy fartsy bullshitty lyrics, IMO as a way to mock the vapidity and meaninglessness of pop music, but it was just executed all wrong.
But the "when you touch me I die" hook in Venus is life and all that's in it.

Songs I still love from Artpop (or at least like and re-listen to them)-Venus, Do What You Want, Applause, Sexx Dreams, GUY, Mary Jane Holland, and Gypsy. I still sometimes allow Jewels and Drugs, Artpop, and Manicure to play when they come on. I guess that is why I don't think Artpop is a super pretentious cd-I like all the more "normal" or party/sex/love songs compared to Swine, Dope, Aura that do get bogged down by pretension. I still think Aura has one of the catchiest hooks/choruses Gaga has ever done, but jesus the rest of those lyrics... Oh, and I don't care how bad some of the lyrics are in Venus I STILL LOVE IT. I wish it had been a single lol. I still wish the singles had been Applause, DWUW, Gypsy, Venus, and then whatever she wanted for single #5 if it even got released. The first three were either hits or could have been hits if released and properly promoted. She tried very hard to sabotage both Applause and DWUW for some reason so I think they could have been even bigger if she weren't so desperate to self-destruct. I don't think Venus would have ever smashed, but that could have been her Judas (single not made for radio at all, but Gaga wants it and could have had a great video and been a great addition to her singles history).

Yes, yes it is. My favorite part though is the "Neptune...Now go Sir Pluto..." part. I always flash through the stock footage attack sequences of the Sailor Moon characters' attacks. There's just enough time for each one, as long as Shine Aqua Illusion and Venus Love-Me Chain happen at the same time.
Gaga wanted Judas? I thought the label pushed for it against her will.
I'm curious about that too. I thought she was 100% "Marry The Night" as single #2 at the beginning, which is why it was eventually released, with a 7:45 short film
Well that was disgusting. I've liked Howard because he seems to get honest answers out of the people he interviews but that clip was misogynistic, homophobic, and unnecessarily mean. Super off-putting.
It was just disgusting. He went for LITERALLY all of the low-blows. The Madonna comparison, etc...

I can't tell if people are joking or not, but she covers her tattoos pretty regularly depending on her look? Am I making that up and she has never done it before and I am just imagining it?

I thought so too, especially for C2C promo? Or is it that she's usually wearing sleeves for those appearances, so they're just not usually visible?

I thought she had done both when she wants to look classy/glamorous-sleeves and/or make-up or tattoo concealer. Honestly, I like it better when her tattoos are covered. She looks...cluttered to me when all of them are showing.
I might be okay with this pairing. Fashion! somehow turned out alright with a weird combination of talent behind it.
Weird writer/producer match-ups would also be a fun pop album concept from her, if she could pull it off as a take on how a lot of pop music copies a dominant sound. Avicii/Mike Will Made It! DJ Mustard/Greg Kurstin! It would make me feel dizzy.

I don't even think I can name 3 non ballad or slow tempo songs w/Diane's name being associated. Lol. Just seeing her or the name automatically thinks another slow ass song. Could be wrong, but we shall see.
