Which will REALLY piss some people off because of the iHeatMedia 'manipulation' of the charts with their On The Verge program. Honeslty, to me, the program introduces newcomers but it may in the long run hurt them in subsequent singles.

I actually am liking the program for the most part and I'm just hoping they pick some diversity. I know they did pick RaeLynn but they also had a decent idea that it was well liked by a lot of people due to sales so I don't think they really went by "gut feeling" on that one. I'm also not disappointed that Mickey Guyton didn't get it cause it seems like she's off to a good start without it. Hopefully the next pick will be another female or a duo.

Count me among those finding this dull. The midtempo arena rock-influenced power ballad sound strikes me as played out at country radio at the moment, and On the Verge-boost notwithstanding, I'm not sure how this song is supposed to gain this band any kind of separation from the pack.
I'm pretty sure that I took one of the umpteen surveys Republic Nashville sent out for these guys, too, and the one song that stood out to me in a good way was "Drunk Dial." The song was also a midtempo arena rock-influenced power ballad, but the melody was more dynamic than the one here. On the whole, I wasn't able to work up a whole lot of enthusiasm about the music that I heard, but I suspect this is a case of commercial associations smoothing away the edges that might make a band interesting or memorable.

Don't forget to give this song credit for dull lyrics and a predictable theme throughout. No reason to restrict credit just to the power ballad problem. I'm not going to go through the lyrics -- I'm learning -- but these depress me. But at least I'll have the fakey chart run to console me.

I like this song, and I don't hate the On The Verge program, because it does expose more new artists. But it does irk me that this song has had some bugger updates than Zac Brown Band's new DEBUT single. I know it's going to cool off in a bit, but still doesn't make sense to me.

With Smoke advancing as well as it did this week, does anyone forecast any backwards movement for next week?

With Smoke advancing as well as it did this week, does anyone forecast any backwards movement for next week? No. That's not how it works with the On The Verge program. The songs sustain their airplay and build on it over the course of several weeks. And we've already seen that this week on Mediabase. "Smoke" is up more than 1.5 million in the last 5 days on MB, so no, it definitely won't drop any on Billboard; it will move up a few more spots in the 20's.

Well, since there are six positions in the 20s to choose from (#20-#25), where do you think Smoke will be next week?

Well, since there are six positions in the 20s to choose from (#20-#25), where do you think Smoke will be next week? Probably #23, maybe #24. The #23 spot seems most likely (Brad and Tim will go recurrent, and I think David Nail will leave as well). If RaeLynn re-enters (and she has a chance to), then that would push "Smoke" down from 23 to #24. And I suppose there's a chance that David Nail could stay on (but I think it's more likely that he'll leave) AND RaeLynn could re-enter, in which case "Smoke" would probably be at #25. To put it in percentages, I'll say there's a 60% chance of "Smoke" moving to #23, a 30% chance of it moving to #24, and a 10% chance of it only moving to #25.

I'll take #23 so one Big Machine group can replace another (the Zac Brown Band).

This is such an uneventful song. What a waste of the OTV selection, imo. It's really irritating that this is already closing in on where "God Made Girls" (wrongfully) peaked.

I think this is an exceptional song. The "smoke" metaphor holds up throughout the song without contrivance, but still has enough detail to form some sort of narrative. I really like the sound, which has a bit of a Zac Brown Band feel to it. (Which is funny, since one of their members is named Zach Brown.)

Yeah I'm getting behind this one actually. The lyrics are better than I thought they would be with the Smoke metaphor, although the video has me cringing quite a bit. I've always liked the rock power ballad (I'm a big hair early 90s kid) and this tickles that a little. I don't think this is mind blowing or ground breaking, but it's fine enough for my tastes. The chorus really reminds me of a song, but I can't put my finger on it.

A couple early pictures show five people in the group, and some sources list a Jonathan Carman on drums. Did he quit early in the proceedings?
One of the sources is dated from just last month, but they could've been going on outdated information. A Thousand Horses' site lists only four members, and no mention of Carman.

A couple of other songs (3) from their upcoming album can be previewed and purchased on iTunes right now, and I must say, I really like what I am hearing. They definitely have a rock-influenced sound, but "Back To Me" and "(This Ain't No) Drunk Dial" are some quality country songs. I think these guys could be pretty big. "Smoke" has grown on me immensely as well. The chorus is so catchy and it has that perfect windows down driving type of feel to it.

I really enjoy this track. Hearing it a few times a week through the On the Verge program as expected.

I thought I liked this one well enough (hell, I suppose I still do, especially for that quaint steel midway through the chorus).
But now that I have listened to the beginning of one of my favorites, "Shut it Down" by Luke Bryan, I admit I may realize the familiarity of the instrumentation could have created some bias for my liking of this one.
*sigh*

I heard the biggest fail the other day regarding this while traveling through Texarkana, AR. Apparently a member is named Zach Brown and well the DJs thought Zac Brown of ZBB fame.

Someone help me out here....the beginning of this song sounds JUST like another country hit from the past several years, but I can't put my finger on which song it is.....my local country music DJ actually asked his listeners the same question. Any guesses?

The opening guitar riffs definitely sound like another recent country song, one from sometime in the last 5 years, but I can't put my finger on it.

I don't know if I'd say it's the most forgettable song ever, but I never go out of my way to listen to it. I was expecting so much more out of that one too (I love football and fall! But Kenny's song only makes me feel sleepy). But yeah, the opening guitar in "Boys Of Fall" sounds just like the opening guitar riffs in "Smoke".
