In DC, played Living for Love on 99.5, the big top 40 station here (around 12:45 pm today). Fingers crossed!

I haven't listened to the radio in over a decade...how does L4L sound alongside today's hits (I imagine Maroon 5 or other such stuff I'd never listen to)?

It blends in well. 10 years ago her stuff from Confessions definitely stood out amongst all the urban songs, but nowadays there are quite a few dance songs getting played on pop radio so its not that much of a stretch.

I can't believe it! Just heard this on the radio! I almost swurved into a tree! Haha. This was on a Tampa station so that's a big one.

My sister who lives in Manhattan text me and said she heard it last night on the radio and it sounds great. Not sure what station. Must have been Z100.

Madonna has so much money that if she really wanted to could pay to get a couple hits. If the "she's too old for radio" comments start to bother her, she might pay herself for radio to play her music. Seeing how much she's worth, why not?

I am trying to keep a running total of the stations on board - bear with me, as I will be updating this page throughout the day. Great page. Will you also be changing the year to 2015? ;)

John-That's not her style. She might pay out of pocket to direct a movie but she knows her worth as a music artist and will let the record co pick up the tab

No need to buy spins. Since many record companies own radio stations these days. LiveNation is a shareholder in iheartradio which used to be Clear Channel. Her team can simply ask the executives to play their clients record. Hence, the current airplay. This is a hard push as opposed to the soft push back in December!

If LiveNation feels that a couple hits would excite people and increase ticket sales, they will be willing to spend a lot on getting radio airplay. LN in the past has used radio deals for their artists. For Shakira, early on they were saying CRTFY was going to have a two week deal, which ended up being a one day deal. Instead of using a radio deal for "empire" they decided to use a deal for the album. LN had all iheart radio stations play her full album while people were driving home from work. I don't think LN will let M flop without trying to help out. Was the GMAYL deal a one week deal? Currently #192 on iTunes. Hopefully the increased airplay will start to make it rise more on iTunes.

The radio promo for GMAYL was Friday-Sunday, leading up to the Super Bowl. The promo made sense for that SB souvenir of a single.
Perhaps this initial airplay has helped LFL keep from dropping further on iTunes. It would take continued decent airplay for it to influence a big sales turnaround, though.

How much airplay is needed for this to place on the Hot 100 at the current sales?

Another TV performance of LFL will certainly help in sales.

Performances are only good for quick burst increases….it takes day to day constant promotion such as radio or commercials or an ad that is playing a lot to keep it constant.

^True.
Veni- with the Hot 100 based on airplay, sales and streaming, that's tough to say. Right now, none of those three components are that significant (unless the U.S. streaming total saw a decent increase this week).
At best this week, maybe it will debut on Bubbling Under.

I actually think it sounds better on the radio than on the album.

Monday spins already coming in from Atlanta, Minneapolis, Columbus, Hartford, Allentown, and Macon. Not every iHeartMedia station is spinning (although the vast majority are), some didn't play it at all on Saturday but began spinning Sunday, and each station is producing different daily spin totals, spinning at different times, broken out into different dayparts, etc. With the holiday weekend, it could just be a 3-day deal - but these feel more like genuine adds to me.

I don't consider this a holiday weekend at all. Just because there is "love" in the title?

I think you are expecting to much for 2 days of a couple hundred spins…..it takes a bit for sales to start to react to airplay.
Without that airplay it probably would be 100 spots lower.

If I am reading this correctly it is also the fourth most added at Top 40 / Mainstream. It got the same amount of adds as the the number one most added (Tori Kelly, Nobody Love me), but far less spin increase (+421 vs. +186).
MADONNA Living For Love 24 186

edit: sorry, this is 4th in the "Taking Off" section.

It's No. 49 on both the published-panel chart and the all-stations chart. The airplay definitely looks to have slowed the sales declines. While any airplay is good, it's not a level of play to, all of a sudden, inspire a surge in sales. Rebel- last week, it was eighth most-added, with 15 Mediabase stations. The adds totals are published every Tuesday.

I'm not a big fan of this, but would love to see her get radio hit(s) this era.
