Songs That Became Internet Memes Classics like "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley and "Sandstorm" by Darude comes to mind. There's the Rickrolling that basically is a bait and switch when someone clicks the link that seems relevant at first but goes to the music video of "Never Gonna Give You Up". And there's "Sandstorm" recently in which you see comments on video streaming sites like Youtube and others in a false reply to whenever anyone asks what's the name of the song. Funny how random things online became memes on the Internet. Any other songs?

the difference with "Never Gonna Give You Up" was that the song is from 1987, so it didn't really start out as an internet meme, and it was already popular on its own merit being a #1 hit in 1988. But the "Rick Roll" phase kind of revitalized his career. "Hot Boy" and "Crank That" also come to mind when talking about songs that got popular off the internet.

Yes? ;) I believe "Baby" could be counted as a meme. If not then "Anaconda" and "Baby Got Back"

'Call Me Maybe' was practically Patient Zero of "viral YouTube internet memes".

Drop that #NaeNae was popular on Vine for awhile, mainly for the dance.

Summer of 2013,This was everywhere with vines and youtube videos.
Kate Upton dancing to this turned this into a internet hit.
Miley made this one chart on Billboard last year with a twerking video.

I wouldn't attribute Cat Daddy to Kate Upton or Wop to Miley.

I wouldn't attribute Cat Daddy to Kate Upton or Wop to Miley. Both songs became famous due to both Kate Upton and Miley's videos. It is a case of a internet video going vital that causes the song in the videos to get famous.
