I saw them perform this live when I saw them back in August. Lovely tune.

YES!!!!! Oh man I've been excited for their return. These guys should slay alternative radio, and considering they haven't really been around for almost 8 years, this will be very welcome to the audience.
EDIT: I know they've 'been around', but they haven't had a new album throughout that whole time.

[ That would be terrifying. I'm picturing it now. Let's say for example Modest Mouse finally finishes their long anticipated album and releases a lead single. Artie: Lead single from their upcoming album. How do you guys think it'll do? How many weeks will this spend at #1. drindie: Well, the thing you guys need to understand is that this will in all likelihood get a high debut on alternative, however whether or not it hits #1 remains to be seen. What is for certain though is that Billboard will not include it in their Hot 100 because it's too obsessed with rap, crappy pop songs, and country to let alternative acts in. So it will probably flop. novaleks: wut? no. Me/Pipa/Devin/American Idiot: Definitely looking forward to this. They put out some quality stuff a few years back and it'll be interesting to see how they fare in this alternative climate. (Song flops) Green Baron: ***** ******* INDIE ****** POPPY ******* ******** SCREWED THIS ******** BAND OVER ****** GTFO TOVE LO YOUR TAKING SPINS AWAY FROM ****** MODEST MOUSE AND LIKE SLASH AND THEORY OF A DEADMAN ********* INDIE POP GARBAGE Me: You need to accept this state of alternative (For like the thousandth time). Green Baron: Never novaleks: we get it Artie: *creates thread for rumoured second single before the album even gets released* Pen upon return: Artie, we've been over this a thousand times. You can't start threads for every single song you hear. Shadowscorp: I'm not too big of a fan of this, but at least they were around back when alternative was awesome in the mid 2000s I hope no one is offended by this, it's just a gag, not to be taken seriously as I like all of you guys.

I wanted Shit in Your Cut to be the lead single. Personally, my favorite of the three new songs they played live.

Yesss. It's been too long since we've heard anything new from them. This is the type of indie rock that deserves to do well on Alternative.
I also hope this does well.

I like Modest Mouse, but I can't tell much from this live version. I hope the studio version has more pump.

Also for the record, "Dashboard" stalling out at #5 or #6 (BB and MB respectively) is the definition of a crime. Oh, and so were "The World At Large" and "We've Got Everything" DNCing

Float On: A Ocean Breathes Salty: A- The World At Large: B+ Dashboard: A- Missed The Boat: B- We've Got Everything: B
The real kicker is that IMO, all 6 of these have aged extremely well.

I'd have to hear a studio version to tell what I think of the song. I've always been a decent fan of theirs. They along with The Killers I feel like were the start of indie getting big in the mainstream in the early 00s.

I'm hoping for a top 20 debut. Might be a bit ambitious but it's very much possible. Top 25 at least.

They better make a music video for this too. The "Dashboard" video is still easily one the best AND funniest music videos ever.

Dashboard and Float On. Both in my top 5 songs for their respective years. Still waiting for the studio version of this song.

Outside of "Float On", I've never really been into these guys. But this sounds really good based on the live performance. Hopefully the studio is great too.

Float On is easily top 5 all-time among all artists for me, and maybe Gravity Rides Everything, too, but I also love Dashboard, Missed The Boat, Ocean Breathes Salty, and the World At Large. I'm excited for new music!

I still remember the first time I heard Float On. Pre YouTube, I caught it on MTV's All Things Rock show and was a bit jarred with how a Modest Mouse song sounded like that, knowing just Tiny Cities, Stars Are Projectors and A Different City from TM&A. I soon got used to it and loved it.

And then there's Jesus Christ Was an Only Child, Dramamine, Doin the Cockroach, Dark Center of the Universe, Trailer Trash, Shit Luck...
