This one will most certainly be at least a MB #1 as "Fly" has increased nearly 400 spins and 2.5 million in audience this week (115 spins and 400k in audience today).
I'm with @daydrinker. I'm glad this has been very successful for Maddie & Tae but this chart run is another example of what I hate about today's charts. 8-10 years ago, this would have died in the top 15. But in 2015, it's able to ignore its age and catch a second wind with pretty significant gains after showing signs of fatigue.
I will say that I'm fairly confident that "Shut Up And Fish" will have a great debut and I wouldn't be surprised to see it rise just as fast as "Girl In A Country Song" or at least close to it.

Almost top 60 on the Hot 100 as it rises to #61 in its 10th week.

I think I was wrong. It looks like Fly is about to get jumped by not one, but several songs if it stays at this pace.
I think they will hold on through CMA week then move on regardless of chart position.

I think it's done. The next several days will be telling. There's still plenty of time to release a new single prior to CMA week. It's been a tough slog for 8 months. Time to move on .

On both "Girl in a Country Song" and "Fly," I'm going to start by objecting to the characterization of "Girl in a Country Song" as a song that succeeded as a "novelty." By definition, a "novelty" song is something whimsical that serves no real purpose, and I don't think that could be further from the reality of "Girl in a Country Song"'s impact. Sure, it was a humorous song, but the humor was a vehicle for a very pointed message about the formulaic songwriting that was dominating country radio, particularly as it objectified women. The song buzzed because of its message and it connected because of its message. I will concede that its radio success probably owed something to the fact that its production spoofed/followed the bro country songs that it targeted, and that said production isn't representative of Maddie & Tae's overall sound. Still, I don't think it's accurate to dismiss "Girl in a Country Song" as a novelty. It had a very real impact on the national conversation about country music, as well as the one within the country market itself.
I think the fact that "Fly" has risen to the top-10 is incredibly significant, as well. When I first heard it, I didn't think it had a chance in the current radio climate. Earnestness is perhaps the most difficult mood to register in a party-hearty, tempo-driven radio environment. But the fact that Maddie & Tae have been able to make that work at country radio via a ballad with brazenly country touches when the only other new female success story (Kelsea Ballerini) was built on lyrical and sonic concessions to bro country strikes me as every bit as important as "Girl in a Country Song"'s more overt stand for women against pigeonholing and formula. It's important for Maddie & Tae in the sense that it proves that they can gain radio acceptance without the aid of outside buzz, but it's also important as a statement to labels seeking to develop young female talent -- with "Fly," Maddie & Tae are succeeding as themselves, without chasing radio trends, and that's a critical example to set for labels developing young female talent.
There has been much talk here of the push "Fly" has received to get as far as it has in light of its mid-level sales, slow rise and predictable lack of connection with country radio's bro listeners. But what I haven't seen is any acknowledgement of the fact that "Fly" has been among the top-streamed country songs for at least a few weeks now (it is #3 this week behind two Sam Hunt songs). So if it manages to hang on for a top-5 airplay peak or even a #1 somewhere, I don't think that the necessary push will be completely at odds with the song's connection with fans. And since I believe country radio's ratings decline is the by-product of its narrow focus on a narrow demographic, I think it's past time that country radio started supporting popular songs that show signs of resonating beyond the narrow tastes of its current audience, especially those that show signs of resonating among country music fans.

Right now the path to the top-5 for "Fly" isn't as clear as it was a few weeks ago. This has only gained 900k audience and 150 spins on Mediabase over the past seven days, and "Break up with Him," "Smoke Break," and "Let Me See Ya Girl" are all smothering it. "Fly" will be passed up by all three of these within the next week or two if it doesn't start to get more heavy conversions, and there's no recovery after getting passed by three more songs in the top-10 this late in the game. It is possible that #8 will be the peak position for this on Country Airplay. However, what Dot has done for Maddie & Tae on the airplay charts is no small accomplishment. Maddie & Tae are basically right on pace with the Wreckers, who followed up their first #1 with the #9-peaking "My, Oh My" and this was definitely a tough sell for radio, so Dot's done a good job just getting it into the top-10.

This has now been pushed out of the top 10, by Old Dominion and Cole Swindell this week. Given the age of the song, I really don't see it making much more of a comeback. I think it's probably in Dot's best interest to give up, and get a third single (preferably "Shut Up And Fish") out and established before the holiday shopping season really kicks in.

They started a fan video campaign today for "Shut Up And Fish" and are offering merch with it on their new Shopify store, so I'd guess that'll indeed be next.

So why hasn't anyone started a thread? Lol I think it's in that weird limbo where it's like not 100% confirmed but people just assume and it's weird. LOL

So why hasn't anyone started a thread? Lol Like carriekins said, we're in "limbo." There hasn't been actual confirmation on any sourcing site (All Access, Play MPe, Music Row, etc.) yet, but the word is that will indeed be the next single release. "Fly" isn't done yet anyway.

I just listened to their album, which was superb, even though I initially wasn't keen of Girl in a Country Song (which after another listen, was good). That said, every song on the album was good, mostly because to Maddie's great vocals. I may even prefer it to Kacey's recent LP. My favorites of the album were the more traditional tracks (such as Smoke, this song and Downside of Growing Up), and I thought Sierra was fun too. If they wanna play safe, yeah I agree, Shut Up and Fish, Sierra or Your Side of Town should be next.

I love this song and would've liked to see it hang in there and at least make the Top 5, but I'm also very glad that they're moving on to a new single finally.

Today's update pretty much seals the deal... I would've liked to see this song go further but 2 consecutive top 10s is quite an accomplishment for them!
I hope the next single can continue their success :)

Radio is really washing their hands of this one. "Fly" has lost nearly 800 spins and well over 3.5 million in audience the past two days. Not that it wasn't expected with listeners pretty burned out in this one and the next single already announced.

"Fly" literally lost half of its spins from last week. It had 6444 spins on last Sunday's MB chart and it ended up losing 3188 of those spins, with over 15.0 million in lost audience. As a result, "Fly" falls from #8 all the way to #20.

This is one of the biggest free falls I can remember. I hope that it doesn't scare some programmers off from adding the next single right away.

This of course went recurrent on tonight's Billboard chart, but it came in as the #5 recurrent. That means that it lost over 16 million in AI this week. I can't remember a song ever losing that much audience on the Billboard chart in a single week.

Yeah that's pretty brutal. But I think radio was just "over it". So much for my brilliant plan a few posts back!
I hear they have been ready to move on to "Fish" for a few months. Hopefully it will come out of the gate as most added and such.

It would be terrific if SUAF could match the stellar #28 debut for "Smoke", but that's a real longshot.
