Great #s for Carrie and K. Michelle, too.
Carrie will probably outsell Belly's GH.

Great numbers all round! Carrie's GH should go gold quite easily I think. Hopefully will manage platinum if they release a second single from it (which I'm assuming they will).

Carrie has been doing some pretty massive promo for the GH so it's expected it would have sold.

Carrie will probably outsell Belly's GH. That creativity on the Kelly Clarkson diss, though!
In all seriousness, though, these are great numbers all around for the debuts.

Let's stick to the HITS thread, instead of defending a pop artist you will never meet. I liked the joke myself.
Anyway, really impressed with J. Cole's numbers.

Carrie has been doing some pretty massive promo for the GH so it's expected it would have sold. Massive? Major promo she did was interview and performance for Fallon, The Today Show, and The Talk. Iheart was for streaming only.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6398498/j-cole-aiming-for-third-no-1-album-billboard-200-chartJ. Cole Aiming for Third No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 ChartBy Keith Caulfield | December 10, 2014 9:07 PM EST Rapper J. Cole is heading for his third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with his new release 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Industry forecasters suggest the album -- which was released Dec. 9 through Roc Nation/Columbia Records -- could sell well over 300,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 14. It could score J. Cole's best sales week ever, surpassing Born Sinner's arrival with 297,000 copies in 2013 (according to Nielsen Music). Both of J. Cole's previous albums, Born Sinner and 2011's Cole World: The Sideline Story, debuted at No. 1. The new album's bow should also earn the largest sales week for a hip-hop album in over a year. The last to move a greater sum in a week was Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP 2 when it launched with 792,000 in the week ending Nov. 10, 2013. In fact, J. Cole's latest will become the first hip-hop album to sell more than 200,000 copies in a week this year. At the present, Rick Ross' Mastermind tallied 2014's biggest week for a hip-hop set, when it bowed with 179,000 in the week ending March 9. As the recently revamped Billboard 200 reflects the overall consumption of albums (including track equivalent albums [TEA] and streaming equivalent albums [SEA]), one can't look only to pure album sales to determine the chart's final ranking. Still, J. Cole seems like he has a very good shot at opening at No. 1. His biggest challenge for the top slot will be Taylor Swift's 1989, which has spent five non-consecutive weeks atop the list. The top 10 of the new Billboard 200 chart will be revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Other albums on course for possible top 10 debuts include K. Michelle's Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart? and Carrie Underwood's Greatest Hits: Decade #1.

Carrie has been doing some pretty massive promo for the GH so it's expected it would have sold. Yeah, her promo has hardly been massive. Fallon, Today Show, The Talk, Rachael Ray. That's it, lol. Nobody expected it to near the 90k mark.

Hits Daily Double is doing them, and Billboard is the one that has a more direct dial into the data and methodology.

That is pretty massive promo for a greatest hits album.

I think it's pretty big promo for a greatest hits release. Usually they don't spend much on the run up to them because the return on investment is pretty low.

Let's stick to the HITS thread, instead of defending a pop artist you will never meet. I mean, I have met her four times now, but I agree with the main point you made. I can understand the need some feel to make comparisons between the two compilations - the two artists come from the same show, have long been compared, the releases are similar, and they were released relatively close together. However, the nicknames are uninspired and provoke unnecessary confrontations. Let's leave them alone?

Way higher than what I pegged Carrie to open with. Wow. Maybe it's just me but I was kind of expecting 80-90k for her? I don't know why, it just seemed right...she's country (one of the better selling genres); a fair share of her singles were released before iTunes became a really big thing for country artists; it's the holidays; she had a ton of good press going into it. Funny enough I feel like the single contributed the smallest amount to her sales. She could almost have gone without one, to be honest. Also I love the 'guess the hit' thing her Facebook page was doing for the past several weeks. That was pretty fun to follow/reminisce along with her. edited to add that I don't think Carrie herself has done "massive" promo but she's been pretty highly visible in the media in general for the past few months. That always helps. And it goes without saying that I'm highly impressed with Jermaine. Good for him! I hope he goes platinum.

The GH album comments are irrelevant. Everyone knows Carrie is more of an album artist while Kelly wins the track sales.
ANYWAYS, I'm floored that no one's commenting how J.Cole is on target to open with nearly 100k MORE than originally expected!?
