She's been posting pictures from the studio for weeks, and there is this new Mike Will interview: m.noisey.vice.com/blog/mike-will-made-it-interview-ransom-2014Oh, and there's new Miley Cyrus music in the works (six songs are done so far). She's recording at home over the beats he sends her, and it sounds crazy: He plays me a couple songs off his phone, and it's like country Lana Del Rey backed by a choir, except it's Miley pouring her heart out.

"Country Lana Del Rey backed by a choir"...interesting. That kind of sound could either be awesome, or a huge disaster.
I'm still surprised at how quickly the Bangerz era seemed to peter out. After the massive 1-2 punch of 'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball', I thought she was going to have a huge era, but 'Adore You' completely destroyed all of her momentum. That really was a terrible single choice, especially following 'Wrecking Ball'. A mid-tempo and then two ballads in a row from an album called Bangerz- not the best decision.

"Adore You" was my favorite song to come out of the Bangerz era. I wouldn't blame it for ending the era early, though... her team definitely could have released another single afterwards.

^ Definitely! They just gave up, and that's why (jmo) the era tanked...

Super excited for this! Country Lana Del Rey as in the radio mix of West Coast?? Bring it on Miley! I'll be playing her cover of Jolene to get prepared for the slayage.

Was Bangerz really country hip-hop, though? The only thing slightly country was "4x4" and that was far from brilliant, in my opinion.

I think that is the point-I never take that much stock in how an artist or a team describes new albums because a lot of the time the description feels really weird and not what the music actually sounds like.

F.U. was a hit waiting to happen.
Looking forward to seeing what she does with this next album! "County Lana Del Rey with a backing choir" definitely sounds...intriguing?

I heard the country/hip-hop that she was going for right away. The production was hip-hop influenced and Miley's intonation naturally leans country, so anything she touches is going to have that there. That's why I'm actually kind of excited to hear this country Lana meets choir, if that is Miley's description and not the person writing the article. Miley seems to be one of the few artists who knows how to describe her own sound. She's a hot mess at times but as far as I can tell, she has good instincts when it comes to her music. I would argue it wasn't the song choice that was an issue so much as the video/continued child-gone-wild image wearing thin with a lot of people. Then the label just abandoned the era for some reason instead of going for a fourth single, though to be fair this could be at least partially due to Miley not being up to more promotion. She was on tour at this time, was distraught over losing her dog, landed in the hospital...I'm thinking she just wasn't up to it. Still wish they would have at least sent something to radio.

Someone Else was my favorite song from Bangerz, but 4x4 was not worth the time or money it took to record. I don't mind a country-ish Lana vibe, and could definitely see it it meshing better than Country HIp-Hop/R&B.

I might be wrong, but I think Miley did say ending up in the hospital pushed back the filming of the music video for her next single.and then it never happened at all

Get It Right was the only other song that had smash written all over it so that was the only misstep with the era. Abandoning it after Adore You was probably a wise choice since people were getting tired of her so releasing Get It Right next which was another 'daring' song as well could grow people even more tired of her and that could potentially hurt the next era as well.

That SNL performance was awesome. I also loved the Roy Orbison cover she did on Chelsea Lately's last episode.
