I just LOVE how people claimed she was a puppet when she did Bangerz and all the blitz that came with it and then she drops interviews like this where it's just truth after truth after truth.

Miley is one of the few genuinely fascinating artists to come out of this generation.

Miley is one of the few genuinely fascinating artists to come out of this generation. I completely agree. Even during her Hannah Montana run (when my younger brothers were obsessed with her show), I remember checking in on it from time to time and thought she had something special. Then, there was the lightning-in-a-bottle Party In The USA moment and I started seeing the way she commanded a stage. It's been love every since!

She basically called Nicki an angry black woman. I know she's going to come for blood when she gets on that podium.

She basically called Nicki an angry black woman. No she didn't. She called Nicki an egomaniac.

Yes, I read it. Well, not the super "who cares?" think piece, but the full interview on the previous page of this thread. Miley, point blank, said Nicki had an attitude problem and that she took a serious issue and made it all about herself. Is she wrong? ETA: lol, another article pretending to be "woke" that conveniently forgot that Nicki blatantly subtweeted Taylor. Hysterical.

No. Had Miley made "Anaconda" it definitely would have been nominated for Video of the Year. Also if this were men we were discussing no one would even be mentioning "egocentric" attitudes. She's a rap artist from the hood so of course she's going to speak her mind. What rap artist is politically correct? Macklemore?

I like Miley, but here's a different look at it. This girl is who I follow online: Miley on Nicki Minaj's comments about the VMA's: "'If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it. And it’s not anger like, ‘Guys, I’m frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.’ You made it about you. Not to sound like a b****, but that’s like, ‘Eh, I didn’t get my V.M.A.'" Miley Cyrus playing into the "angry Black woman" trope and respectability politics, the most white and exclusive notion ever. *YAWN* (Edit: #lessthanbasic) What were we even expecting? Fake allies will always try to be in solidarity with you, until they think the going is getting tough. SOLIDARITY DOESNT MEAN SILENCING. Miley is a perfect example of someone who has no problem stealing Black culture and exploiting it; she's a colonizer, in fewer words. m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10207687536976617&id=1538146508

And it’s not anger like, ‘Guys, I’m frustrated about some things that are a bigger issue.’ You made it about you. Not to sound like a b****, but that’s like, ‘Eh, I didn’t get my V.M.A.'
Miley was not saying "you shouldn't be angry." She said you shouldn't be angry over petty, trivial bullshit and then expect people to co-sign you just because there's a serious issue tangentially attached to whatever you're truly mad about. And that is so key for people to remember - the angry black (wo)man trope is insulting not because people are calling us angry but because when they do so they are implying that whatever we're expressing anger about is either unimportant or misdirected. That stereotype has a base layer to it that goes beyond the surface 'how dare you call us angry?' Miley isn't dipping into that stereotype, as she isn't dismissing the more serious topic or the right to be angry about it. She is dismissing Nicki for being fake and pretending to be angry about something serious when she's really just mad about not getting a certain nomination. Several black people (including Kingsley, one of Nicki's most publicly known stans) called Nicki out because she was wasting our time dragging serious social issues into her petty wap argument about a VMA. It would be disingenuous for me to get mad at Miley for saying the same thing that I did on a good five pages in the VMA and Nicki's threads. And Miley seems to be speaking from personal experience/having met Nicki before so she would have even more justification for saying it than we outsiders did. Nicki's reputation for a nasty 'tude precedes her at this point so it really should not even be a surprise that Miley, or anyone, would eventually say something about it.
Goodness knows my posting style in general probably makes me seem about as cuddly and open as a thorny rose bush with no blooms on it...but as a self-certified ABW myself I feel like some people have this idea that simply because of our historical oppression, no white person should ever call us out on anything even if we are wrong - or nay, that institutional racism automatically means that we can never BE wrong if the person disagreeing with us is white/any white person trying to call us out is just trying to silence us!!!11!1! That is not how it works, and in fact if you go through life with that mentality you are constantly going to find yourself being ignored and dismissed and increasingly bitter because you're too full of your own ego to check yourself and you keep chasing away legit equality allies with your stupid. Being respectful to others even while bringing up a touchy subject =/= being deferential and allowing people to ignore your POV.
Put another way, if Miley can't call Nicki out for being a rude person, then I don't want to see anyone going in Ariana's thread and cutting up sideways the next time we hear about her being rude to a fan or licking pastries that she didn't buy. You see how absurd that is? To say that we can't call people out for being in the wrong? But that is what people are pretty much saying to or about Miley - 'oh, you can't call Nicki angry! If you call her angry it means you're not really listening! You don't understand!' It completely shuts off the very real possibility that Nicki was, in fact, in the wrong. What do we gain from shielding Nicki from the truth? If anything we're blocking her from a reality check and a chance to become a better person from it.
By the by, Miley isn't defending Taylor Swift in that either - she shaded and then disposed of Taylor's presence in one sentence. So don't think that Miley has any dog in this fight - she clearly thinks they're both full of shit and using their respective causes to further their own personal agendas. The interviewer grilled her more about Nicki so that is the direction it went. I don't necessarily think she has all the answers - like just about any of us she'd probably come up majorly short of answers if Life handed her a pop quiz right now. but I do think she's well-meaning and one of those potential allies who could easily be educated on some things if someone would take her in and say 'ok, this is how we see things from our place in the world.' Instead she encounters people like Nicki, who are rude without reason and give you a hard time when it's obvious that you just need some answers and a better understanding.
This is how I know Miley's telling the truth about not knowing who most of the nominees are though b/c she seems smart enough to have simply stated, 'Beyonce though' and shut that whole part of the conversation down. Why does everyone keep acting like 7/11 and Beyonce's hips didn't get nominated?

Miley is the most, and most likely only, honest celebrity today. She is absolutely right about what she's saying if you get her point.

In some ways I agree with what she said about Nicki.... But she is igniting another flame between two pop stars again which kind of omits what she is trying to say.

It literally doesn't lmao She was asked a question-- repeatedly-- and gave an answer. And, no, she didn't start it either. The interview makes a point to note that Nicki was the one who came for Miley first by bringing up 'Wrecking Ball'. Y'all do the most do defend Nicki.

I'd be a liar if I said Nicki didn't allude to Miley's image/nomination/win in her tirade. Her initial tweet was shading, but her second point was evidently true.

I accept when Nicki makes a fool of herself, and she sort of did with this stupid feud last month. Just saying Miley shading Nicki with that comment, effectively opening the door for another shade war to happen. So yes, it "literally" does. Bye Bae!

What I was referring to was your comment that stated "(Miley) is igniting another flame between two pop stars again which kind of omits what she is trying to say". She wasn't doing that. There's a difference between running your mouth off on twitter and responding politely to a question that is being repeatedly asked of you. There's no hypocrisy in her statement. Miley didn't shade Nicki either. She was up front and direct about what she said. You can call it a read, I guess, but she wasn't acting shady.

I think it's her ep and it might come out Tuesday because MTV tweeted and deleted something to Miley about being excited about September 1st. Either way I think a Solo album will follow soon because MikeWill has been tweeting about it like crazy and RCA said a solo album is coming
