20. Chocolate - The 197517-10-7-5-4-2-1-2-4-8-13-18
https%3A//soundcloud.com/the1975/chocolate
Sometimes, I hear a song and I am pretty sure it is going to hit #1 on my chart. Occasionally, I burn out on the song and that doesn't happen. And then other times, I hear a song I like, but it doesn't seem like something that will hit #1. Then, the song grows on me and it becomes a surprise #1. Chocolate was a surprise. At first, I was taken with the melody, but then reading the lyrics about a friend who found the high from drugs was "just like chocolate" cinched my interest, and the song glided to the top for a week. 19. A Sky Full of Stars - Coldplay20-13-7-4-2-2-1-1-3-6-12-20
https%3A//soundcloud.com/skyfullofstars/coldplay-a-sky-full-of-stars
Coldplay had a strange year on my chart. "Magic" seemed like it would be a top ten, but it ended up peaking just short after I realized I was getting bored with it. "Midnight" barely made a dent, debuting at #18, but then off the next week. And then came "A Sky Full of Stars," which really WAS magic in all its many versions and remixes. It had some strong competition holding it from #1 for a couple weeks, but it finally broke through to hit #1 for a couple weeks of its own. 18. I Choose You - Sara Bareilles20-17-16-15-13-9-10-7-4-3-2-2-5-7-16
https%3A//soundcloud.com/nahhdia/i-chose-you-sara-bareilles
This song in other weeks would have likely hit #1, but was held out against amongst the most formidable competition of the year. It had a nice long trek to #2 as well, which helped its high placement, despite not hitting #1. Sara had limited success on my chart before this, peaking at #3 with "Love Song," and at #10 with "King of Anything." Brave never made a dent. But this song ends being her biggest hit on my chart. 17. Ghost - Ella Henderson17-13-9-7-4-2-1-1-1-3-7-12
https%3A//soundcloud.com/imperfectedpitch/ghost-ella-henderson
So, every October, I collect songs that aren't necessarily Halloween songs, but fit because of their title or lyrics anyhow, and Ghost was one of those. So, it can credit Halloween for its appearance on the chart. But, it also helps that it is a great song of its own. I was hoping when Ella performed it on the Voice, it would take off, but it's not moving like I want it to. On this chart though, she had three weeks at #1! 16. Bang Bang - Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj20-12-6-1-1-1-1-3-4-6-9-16-17
https%3A//soundcloud.com/officialjessiej/jessie-j-bang-bang-ft-ariana-grande-nicki-minaj-new-2014
So, I'm really shocked by how low this song ends up. I thought it was a contender for #1 song of the year, but in retrospect, the song climbed really fast. So it lost out on points other songs receiving by taking awhile to reach their peak. Also, as with Break Free, it was probably a victim of too much Ariana at once, as it shared chart time with Problem as well. 15. Air Balloon - Lily Allen18-14-12-11-10-8-5-5-2-2-4-8-8-8-14
https%3A//soundcloud.com/kayleigh-horan/air-balloon-lily-allen
I think I misspoke when I mentioned Air Balloon's performance yesterday. I was thinking of a completely different song. Anyhow, it was a great year for Lily as she had two songs hit #1 and this one, which came very close, held out by a song that had the longest run at #1 of the year (5 weeks). If I had to pick album of the year, I'd put Sheezus near the top. Hmm, any of you on the pop committee, keep her in mind! 14. Rude - Magic!3-3-3-2-1-1-4-7-9-12
https%3A//soundcloud.com/latium-entertainment/magic-rude
Wow, what a crazy chart run. It debuted at a lofty #3 position - the highest debut of the year - went to number a few weeks later, and then crashed off the chart. I guess I really loved it, and then got really sick of it. 13. Anaconda - Nicki Minaj18-13-12-13-9-7-5-3-3-4-4-4-5-13
https%3A//soundcloud.com/cashmoneyhunny/anaconda-nicki-minaj
Nicki had seven weeks in the top five without getting any higher than #3. Until Band Bang, Nicki had the record for most top ten entries without hitting #1 (12!) and none of them peaked higher than #3. This was the best performing #3 peak of the year. All but one of the songs from here on out peaked at #1. 12. Do It Again - Royskopp and Robyn20-15-12-11-11-10-7-6-4-2-1-2-3-8-11-16
https%3A//soundcloud.com/royksopp/royksopp-robyn-do-it-again-on-annie-mac-bbc-radio1Do It Again was one of those songs that I warmed up to, as the chart run should indicate. It took eleven weeks to hti #1 (though one song took one week longer). Robyn has created some great songs - liek "Dancing on my Own," but for some reason she has eluded my chart until this year. There was also a follow-up by this duo - "Monument", which peaked at #7. One of the great dance songs of the year, imo. 11. All of Me - John Legend18-13-9-5-2-1-1-1-3-5-4-9-15-16-16-20-20https%3A//soundcloud.com/johnlegend/all-of-me-3What a boring year for the Hot 100. Only nine songs hit #1 this year, and two of those (the other being Rude) hit #1 on my chart also. This is the first time since 2004 that not one song that hit #1 on the Hot 100 makes the top 10 on my year end list. For the other number ones not in the top 40, Timber never charted; Dark Horse peaked at #4 for one week; All About That Bass peaked at #8; Blank Space is currently climbing at #13. And Happy - that peaked at #2 way back in Aug. 2013, so it appears on last year's year-end chart. COme back tomorrow for the top 10, or the 10-6, in case I feel like drawing out the suspense. ;)

So, you're going to begin with the Top 10 and I already miss most of this Anyway, so good to see "U Got the Sunshine" (<3), "Addicted to You", "Bailando", "Love Me Harder", "Rather Be", "Fancy", "Only Love Can Hurt Like This", "Break Free", "Blame" (!!!), "Partition", "Somewhere Only We Know", "Uptown Funk", "Chocolate", "A Sky Full of Stars", "Ghost" and "Air Balloon" so far. Can't wait for the Top 10. Regarding "U Got the Sunshine": This ended up being a summer jam, debuting in mid-May and lasting through the end of July. A perfect song for a road trip! I agree with this, although it was quite a late winter/early spring for me because of the hemisphere zones. Regarding "Bailando": Unlike the previous song, local radio played the hell out of this song. It makes me wonder why more Latin songs don't break into mainstream radio because this was a jam. Enrique Iglesias doesn't have a huge history on my chart, but he hit with the similarly named Bailamos way back in 1999. It wouldn't be until 2011 he'd resurface with "Tonight (I'm f**king You)", both of which peaked at #2. So good to know this. However, I prefer the original Spanish version, which it doesn't mean that I dislike this one. Anyway, as you mentioned, I also hope some more Latin songs could break into the US mainstream nowadays. I guess the last time was with Ricky Martin and Enrique too in 1999, wasn't it? Regarding "Blame": Blame still has some life in it, but Christmas songs are pushing it down the chart, so based on the projection this is where Calvin will land. This was Calvin's 4th appearance in the top 10, and became his highest peaking song, beating his first song on my chart from way back in 2007 - "Acceptable in the 80s." O. However, the mention of "Acceptable in the 80s"

Ok, I thought "Do It Again" would be your #1 for some reason. I do remember getting to see your chart here and there and for some reason that one stuck in my head but great positioning none the less. I really, really like the 20-11 section!!! "I Choose You" -

10. Let It Go - Idina Menzel
9-2-2-1-1-1-2-3-6-9-10-13-17-20
https%3A//soundcloud.com/hollywoodrecpromo/idina-menzel-let-it-go-from Let It Go was a surprise number one. It was a song that grew on me after I saw it (a year ago now - time flies) in the theater, and it debuted on my chart in the final week of 2013. It initially went to number one because it ended up timing out with taking my son to Disney World, and so the song was very much on my mind. The song had a slow enough descent that it barely edges John Legend to land in the top 10 for the year.
9. The Man - Aloe Blacc
17-13-10-5-2-1-1-1-1-1-4-7-13-18
https%3A//soundcloud.com/interscope/aloe-blacc-the-man The Man is one of two songs that spent five weeks at #1 this year. Aloe Blacc has appeared three times on my chart - all #1s - "I Need a Dollar" in 2011 and "Wake Me Up" in 2013. While the lyrics are a little repetitive, nothing beats the intensity of the choir at the end of the song.
8. Habits (Stay High) - Tove Lo
20-17-14-14-1-2-1-1-2-4-7-6-6-8-12-17
https%3A//soundcloud.com/tovelo/habits For one week, this song held the record for biggest jump to #1, motivated by Pulse Danger Zone. Habits ended up being the winner of the DZ and moved to #1 as a result. But I did truly like the song, and it lingered in the top ten for another nine weeks. Certainly the most melancholy song to make my list.
7. The Walker - Fitz & The Tantrums
18-18-17-13-9-3-2-2-1-20-1-2-7-9-12-16-19
https%3A//soundcloud.com/fitzandthetantrums/the-walker This song's unusual run also owes itself to Pulse DZ. It set a record for biggest fall from #1 (1-20) one week and biggest jump to #1 (20-1) the next. The Pulse DZ people chose it last of the top 20 that week, but I was not about to let it die because of that, so Habits and The Waker battled over number one for a couple weeks after that. Both songs charted in the springtime, and were polar opposites in terms of tone. But as the snow was melting and the air was warming, a whistling tune was just the right mood for the season.
6. Parachute - Otto Knows
19-16-12-11-8-4-4-1-1-2-2-2-5-8-13-19
https%3A//soundcloud.com/otto-knows/otto-knows-parachute-original-extended-mix Not sure who introduced me to this song on Pulse (maybe Lahey?), but it immediately charted once I heard it. It had a slow rise to number one. While I love this song, it can owe its high placement in the year-end by having weaker competition. Had it started to peak a month later, it may never have gone to number one.
And I think I will at least keep some suspense... for now. ;)

Good to see "Let It Go", "Habits (Stay High)" and "Parachute" there so far. Despite I made the thread for the latter, I'm also kind of sure it was Lahey that introduced to you it since it was on his Dance chart as far as I remember. Also, I like the track, but I still think that "Million Voices" is really superior to this.

5. Hard Out Here - Lily Allen20-10-10-8-8-8-8-5-4-2-2-2-1-4-8-11-14
https%3A//soundcloud.com/scottrek-145/lily-allen-hard-out-hereThe first three weeks of this song's chart life were ineligible. Lily would have finished 2nd for the year if they were included. Hard Out Here spent more weeks in the top 10 (14) than any other song this year. The year started off strong for Lily as she had two #1s by February and five top 10 songs by June. She is the #2 artists of the year on my chart, second only to... 4. Problem - Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea3-2-1-1-1-1-1-3-5-9-11-15-18-18-19https%3A//soundcloud.com/itsaphrodisi3/ariana-grande-feat-iggy-azalea-problem-full-liveAriana Grande - to whom it should be no surprise that she lands a song in a lofty position for the year. I'm surprised this didn't land at #1 for the year. While it had a strong post - #1 performance, it didn't rack up many weeks on the chart before hitting #1, which limited it just enough that other songs finished higher. It had the highest debut of the year (tied with Rude) because it was one of those songs I loved from the first listen. :) 3. Drunk In Love - Beyonce featuring Jay-Z15-10-5-3-3-4-3-1-2-4-9-8-11-10-12
https%3A//soundcloud.com/queenbmusicfanteam/beyonce-drunk-in-love-explicit
Queen Bey came back with a vengeance this year - after having been MIA since 2010. She had her first #1 in seven years with DIL. and then had two more songs peak in the top 5 after that (Partition and Pretty Hurts). The song earned it's position with long trajectories both up and down the chart - things got a little weird at the end with the song going up then down then up again, and it's one of the few songs in the history of the chart to move back into the top ten. 2. Girls Chase Boys - Ingrid Michaelson20-14-14-11-10-10-8-7-5-4-3-2-2-2-3-7-9-12-15-17-20https%3A//soundcloud.com/ingridmusic/girls-chase-boys-radio-editSo the top two are not at all what I predicted, especially GCB. The song never hit #1, yet it very nearly was the #1 for the year (which would have been a first). It spent more weeks (21) in the top twenty than any other song this year lasting on the chart from May to October. It was the only other song to stay in the top ten for 13 weeks besides Hard Out Here. This song benefits by slowly growing on me, and then not burning out too quickly. 1. Bloesem - Sam Feldt & De Hofnar10-5-3-2-1-1-1-1-2-3-8-11-12-15-16-17-19https%3A//soundcloud.com/spinnin-deep/sam-feldt-de-hofnar-bloesem-original-mixWhat can I say, I was a sucker for the flute drop. Mikey, you guessed at the beginning of this that Bloesem would make a high showing since you're the one who introduced it to me. Looks like it just passed GCB as the year came to a close. Bloesem is one of only two instrumentals to have hit #1 (Derezzed by Daft Punk was the other and finished in the top ten for 2011). I believe this song came out more around springtime, but it seemed to work with the varying hues of fall as well, and had a nice 4-week Sep/Oct run at number one. I like the inclusion of I Choose You, All Of Me and Girls Chase Boys in your top 20. I have never heard Bloesem but since it was your number one song, I decided to check it out. At first, I thought it was okay enough though not my taste but when the flute kicked in, I was quite digging it.

Looks like there are some people who don't like deep house tracks. smh.
Anyway, I have to admit that "Bloesem" is not my favourite in that genre, but I do like to see an EDM track atop and, even better, something people wouldn't expect to see, so props for that. However, if we are talking about songs with a 'flute drop', I prefer "Flute" (although it's not a deep house track and I am, of course, talking about the original version instead of that vocal version featuring Lethal Bizzle). Regarding the rest of the tracks, "Drunk In Love" and "Hard Out Here" are really good, so it's great to see them, as well as "Problem" and "Girls Chase Boys", despite I'm not so into the latter.

And for the others, i like your entire top 5!! it's also nice to see Parachute, Ghost, & I Choose You in the top 20. Also glad that Addicted To You, Rather Be, Blame, Hey Brother, & Uptown Funk made to the top 40 :)

So, here is the inaugural entry to my top 20 thread - last week's chart. Thanks to ry4n for the pretty colors. Chart notes: - Ariana Grande is just the 3rd artist to achieve three #1s in a calendar year. The other are Eminem, who did it twice in 2000 (Forgot About Dre; The Real Slim Shady; Stan) and 2010 (Not Afraid; Airplanes (Part II); Love the Way You Lie); and Adele who actually had 4 in 2011 (Rolling in the Deep; Set Fire to the Rain; Someone Like you; Rumour Has It)
- Fully expected for Idina to be a one-hit wonder (not too hard with a 20 position chart), but well, Christmas.
- The Blind Boys of Alabama are the oldest act to hit #1 on the chart. They did it way back in 2003. They hadn't hit my chart since until this past Christmas season.

Chart notes: - Sia nabs her first ever #1 with her 8th top 10. She had hit #2 twice before - with last year's Chandelier, and 2008's "Academia" featuring Beck. Until this week, Sia was the women with the most top 10s to never hit #1. The torch passes to...
- Taylor Swift, who moves up to #3 this week. It's her 6th top ten. She has hit #2 twice, with "Shake It Off" and "Christmas Must Mean Something More."
- With the exception of two weeks in October, Ariana has appeared in the top 10 every week since Problem debuted the week of May 17th.
I don't want to bother you people, so please let me know if you don't want to be tagged. :)

So, are you going to post your weekly charts in a separate thread this year? Cool! Anyway, I'm going to comment your recent chart. • Good to see "Uptown Funk", "Blank Space" and "Jealous" in the Top 5. I haven't checked the other songs in the Top 10, so I can't make a proper comment about them. • A massive yes to that jump of "Spark the Fire". I still don't get why there are a lot of people hating this song. I mean, it's not Gwen's best song of course, but it's not that bad in my opinion. • Yay! at "Blame" hanging out on your chart, as well as "Changing". • Rooting for "Beggin for Thread" to keep climbing.

Blame has been lingering just outside of the top 10 for awhile. It probably would have charted higher in the year-end if not for timing. Same with UF.
BTF is just kind of lingering. It's been on my chart for 8 weeks or so, I think. - the Xmas season hurt its chances to get into the top 10, but it is currently moving up.
