The other Kat thread is old and the owner doesn't go on this site anymore so I figured I would make a new one that we can keep updated.
Katharine recently filmed the CBS Home for the Holidays Special that will premiere on 12/19 on CBS. She's singing "My Grown Up Christmas List" and she sounds BOMB.

I'm still pissed she squandered her deal with Columbia.

Kat performed the National Anthem yesterday. Aside from scratchiness on the top notes, her voice is sounding better than ever. Much more controlled and mature than what I'm used to her sounding like.

Started watching Scorpion earlier this month and it's a pretty enjoyable show. Glad to see her on something successful (they're getting a second season already!), and I hope that means it'll push her to consider releasing new music soon.
Plus, it's been confirmed she'll be performing in the one-night-only Broadway production of Bombshell later this summer with the rest of her Smash castmates!

Well, there was a whole second season of Smash that happened after Touch Me.
I'd like her to at least release a standards album if she is too busy to promote a release of new music.

Yes, my 18-year-old self was jumping with joy when I saw her present and they played a clip of "Over It".
That debut album STILL gets spins from me! "Over It", "Not Ur Girl", "Each Other", and "Everywhere I Go" = HITS!

"Home" has one of her best vocals but my favorite song by her is "Each Other" followed by "Keep Drivin". There's no reason why she shouldn't be bigger than what she is. She's extremely commercial AND can sing.

Honestly, I never understood why people seemed to think her debut was so awful.
It had clunkers, for sure, but she sounded incredible on every track, and the ballads were good.
I still spin Home, Neglected, Ordinary World & Over It regularly.
"Unbroken" undoubtedly isn't a commercial album, but I adore almost every track, and she sounded better than she ever has.
Her Christimas record is such a gem, too.
I'll be disappointed if she doesn't make another album, but at the same time, she made two albums that are all over the place artistically, and I feel like she needs someone who will help her hone it in so her image/albums don't seem so haphazard. I almost feel like Kat's the kind of artist who wants to be a mainstream star, but that's not where she shines. If she wants to make music, her voice is perfect for old Jazz standards or something similar, but she's wasting potential by trying the "one size fits all" method with her music, and it's so frustrating.
I lke the majority of her music, but so far she's basically proven she has SO much potential, but she lacks either the passion or direction to help her go from decent to absolute, full blown artist.

"Katharine Mcphee" was actually the best critically acclaimed debut album by an Idol at the time it came out. It got rave reviews. usatoday30.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2007-02-05-katharine-mcphee_x.htmwww.allmusic.com/album/katharine-mcphee-mw0000572139I remember PEOPLE Magazine calling it "the best album by an Idol ever" in their review. She lost of momentum quickly but initially, I believe her music was very well received. I really do think this album that was set to come out would have given her a lot more exposure in the music world. Huge names were attached. Calvin Harris, Darkchild, The Cataracs, SIA...it's a shame. She just doesn't care for her music career.

Yeah whatever happened with that 3rd album she was prepping to release? Ugh Katharine. I would still be stanning so hard for her if she had done a proper follow-up to Katharine McPhee and not given us that Unbroken album. On another note, I was verifiably obsessed with her debut. It was amazing. "Everywhere I Go," "Open Toes," "Over It," "Not Ur Girl," "Love Story" and "Neglected" still give me so much life to this day. Even that hot mess "Do What You Do" was amazing. AND the Target B-side to "Dangerous", "I Lost You" was amazing. AND "Dangerous"! I have so much love for every single track on that album tbh. Still a stan. Ugh. Katharine. Come back to mainstream pop music. :'(

i don't think she don't care, she just need to get more exposure, especially she got on a show on CBS, and it is a good show, it got good rating and a lot of people are watching, maybe just her Label don't get it, so dropped her, she said she wants to release the third album after the 1st season of the show and able tour it in the summer. That's exactly what she want get more exposure from a CBS show. Maybe we can hear the third album soon, she should able to get some attention in the Grammy there, maybe can stalk some label CEO down

I get the impression that Katharine is one of those artists that isn't a priority for her label. She's beautiful, talented, and has proven she can sell a moderate amount of records, so that alone is enough to land her a record deal. But even at her peak exposure, she never really had a true hit, nor did she establish an identity as an artist. Her most well-received Idol performances were jazz and Great American Songbook standards. Then she released an R&B-tinged debut that, while current with '07 trends, was nothing like the music she rose to prominence with. Her follow-up album was an even further departure featuring folksy, acoustic pop, and arrived well after her Idol momentum had died. Then came SMASH, an avenue that would seemingly meld her acting talents with her showtune aptitudes. But she was nonetheless miscast, and another missed musical opportunity ended with the show's second season.
Versatility is to be praised, but how as a record label do you market someone like that?
Katharine strikes me as similar to Jessie J; undeniably talented, but feels kind of forced as an artist. It's a shame because I've loved her voice since Idol and legitimately want her to succeed as a star. I just don't think she's meant for the commercial music industry.

I do think the issue they had with Katherine and her debut was marketing. I also feel like the timing wasn't the greatest. The music was awesome, it was versatile and she had great vocal performances, but there didn't seem to be a real plan. Let's put her on lots of magazine covers and have her perform on some shows here and there.
For her to do 380k based on her name and a semi-hit alone wasn't so bad, but it would've been great if "Over It" had more radio support and they chose a better follow-up. "Love Story" isn't bad, but "Everywhere I Go" or "Each Other" would have been much smarter.
The second album was released too long after the first and her image and the musical direction was way too far left, but the album itself is decent and worth a listen.

It also feels like Katharine isn't focused on music at this point. I feel like if she really wanted to make music, she would be pushing for it. Maybe she's not interested in making music right now or maybe she feels discouraged because of her own sales/history with record labels.

The fact is that Kelly, Carrie, JHud and Katharine are the the only remaining "stars" produced from Idol. There are people like Taylor and Fantasia doing their thing in their respective genre's and locations (Vegas, Broadway), but, in terms of pop culture, it's really only those four women. Whatever Katharine has to do to remain there, I'm fine with. But, I would love to see her return to music soon.
You all are making me dust off that debut album today! And get some classic Smash moments pulled up on youtube.

The fact is that Kelly, Carrie, JHud and Katharine are the the only remaining "stars" produced from Idol I would argue that Daughtry is still somewhat relevant, as well as Kellie Pickler, although both of their influences have been diminishing lately
