Well an album can't really chart anywhere if people don't know it's out, no? So yea.

Hysteria debuted at #37 on the Independent Albums chart. Ouch. Any news on the (lack of) sales?

Shit. I thought she would at least do around what Jordin did. :(
This is a really good album! She deserves more attention for it. I wish she felt the same.

Yea, she just doesn't care. It's all about Scorpion now. How unfortunate.

I find it very hard to believe that she cares more about her acting career than her music career. Maybe she thinks that after having several albums out and the fact that she's signed to a label that's not big, she has no shot at a hit record? Or maybe she really has found a new passion? What a shame

What a shame It's very hard to believe but it's true. She always said she auditioned to Idol because she wanted to book a better acting agent. So yea. And she has always taken on acting projects, even if said projects could jeopardize somehow the music side of things. It's just a shame because she really excels as a singer and is just adequate as an actress. It is what is, tho.

At this point, I really think she only released Hysteria because she had started recording an album with Columbia (as part of her deal with Smash) and she figured she needed to do something with the material after the show was canceled and she got dropped.
However, as I said earlier in this thread, I do think she genuinely loves singing but she's not interested whatsoever in competing as a recording artist.

And she has always taken on acting projects, even if said projects could jeopardize somehow the music side of things. It's just a shame because she really excels as a singer and is just adequate as an actress. It is what is, tho. I've always wondered if Kat auditioned for Idol just to get her foot in the door. I think her lack of passion for her music is probably due to a variety of factors as well. She got off to a shaky start with her debut album, released the complete 180 that was "Unbroken," and then went back to pure Pop at a time when no one was really here for her music, at least as far as the general public is concerned. Basically, she's been all over the map for 9 years now, and she never really established much of anything along the way. If she just loves to sing, obviously she'd have to realize dropping an album with no promo will be DOA. It's a real shame that someone with her level of talent isn't interested in going after the great career she deserves; I always got the impression she wanted to be a Pop artist, but was content with throwing music out there to see what stuck. Clearly, that got her nowhere in th end, and it's sad to see she's just letting this flounder. Granted, it's hard to blame her with the rocky road she's endured, but it'd still a shame. I'm not sure how likely future albums are from her, but I truly hope she doesn't have to give music a rest entirely. She's much too talented for that.

By the way I think it's possible that Hysteria could have sold around 3K (sales only, streaming not counted.) got the numbers for the other albums from the metal chart on the board and got to compare them.
Metal Allegiance sold 4,600 copies and was charted as #21 on the independent albums chart.
Reflections' album The Color Clear, which was also released by eOne, moved 3,025 copies and was #96 on the Top Current Albums. #95 on the same chart was Scale the Summit's V, which moved 3,125 copies and was also charted as #100 on the Top Album Sales chart.
Now, when you search these albums on Billboard.com, the website shows the highest peak position these albums got but doesn't show from which chart they got that peak, and whenever you hit the refresh button you get the new peak from the different charts. Tricky. I tried with Scale the Summit album, and it got the peaks as follows: 3, 4, 8, 29, 95, and 100. Now there must be tons of sub-charts we do not know of on Billboard, and it's the most reasonable the guess that this album was charted as #29 on the independent albums chart with the sales figure of 3,125 copies.
and with the Reflections' album, I got the number #30, which makes sense that with only 100 copies less sold it's charted as the #30 on the same chart.
There's this another album from Windhand titled Grief’s Eternal Flower which sold 2,825 copies, and it got the peak number #39 likely for the same chart. And finally, Hysteria, got the peak of #37. so... if I guessed it right its sales figures is somewhere in between 2.8K and 3.0K

I'd be way happier if those were the sales but didn't the #50 album on HDD sell like 4k? And Jordin debuted last week at #160 with little over 3k.
With those 2 stats in mind, I think there's no way Kat sold anywhere close to that number.

That would be pretty good. I guess album sales are picking up towards the end of the year. Back in August, I know there were two albums in the Indie top-20 that sold no more than 2,500.

I have so many thoughts about this girl and her career. She is so talented as a vocalist, and I think her voice is incredibly well suited to pop music, as we've seen on her debut and on Hysteria. And I do not think at all that it's that she "doesn't care" about her music career. I think that's lacking a bit of nuance; and I'm willing to bet it's so much more that she's afraid to try and compete at that level and fail, so she prefers to not even look like she's trying. With that in mind, acting seems to be an easier path for her at this point. Scorpion's going to end up running for like a decade cause it's CBS and then she'll move on to other shows.
I just hope she enjoyed the process of making Hysteria, which she has said that she did, and that she makes the effort to record another album or even EP at some point in time. She liked the material this time around, was very involved in the process, and it really showed in the quality of the end product, so that's a happy ending I guess.

She's like Idina Menzel in a way. She's not built for the "record industry." Broadway, movies, campaigns, TV shows, etc. are what she should be building upon because that is more her lane. Touring the country and promoting an album just doesn't seem to be in her blood.

Billboard 200 now use SPS system which is sales plus streaming, so the chart positions there vary much by how the albums do on the streaming sites. jordin had much better sales than the streaming, so she was at around #80 on the pure sales chart. I'll do some more research tho. Haha.

Yay, I guess? That's better than selling under 1k. I'll take 2k.

Now just imagine if LML had gotten some radio love and she had done a proper promo tour. *sigh*

She did some promo for "Lick My Lips" on talk shows when it was released, why not save one of those appearances for when the album's out? Makes little sense to me if they were never going to push LML at radio for real.

^Loved that. She should have tacked on a few acoustic versions of songs at the end of the album as bonus tracks. I would have loved that.
