Just 'cause you like Britney doesn't mean you're gay

Is this 2009? EDIT: it is! In all seriousness though, practicality every 20 something likes songs like BOMT or Toxic, whether they'll admit it or not. So either every guy is gay or Britney has some casual straight male fans. I doubt she has many straight male superfans though, and if they start talking about relating to the lyrics than hello Queenie. Lol.

Is this 2009? EDIT: it is! At risk of further taking this topic further down the rabbit hole, I'm another straight Britney fan. No, I don't relate to the lyrics, but I love inserting myself into the song, as though I'm the one she's singing about. And yes, I definitely get the impression that all the "diva" fans feel some sort of need to make every fan gay. #sorrynotsorry

Like....? And lmao @ the "need to make every fan gay". I don't think anyone really gives a shit.

Wow... out of all the things I have said (Britney Jean being her best, etc...) Me stating I'm str8 gets every1 all hot and bothered... Believe if I was gay I'd not be ashamed (and have a much much much more active love life) Last time I checked what you like doesnt determine who you wanna bang... *waves to gay footballers and straight dancers* Also, just to you know completely blow your (small) minds, my brother is gay and doesn't really care about Britney/pop music ...

LOL @ "and if they start talking about relating to the lyrics than hello Queenie" If a straight person said this about a gay person it would a fucking murder... "ZOMG UR A HOMPHOBE DONT STEROETYPE!!11!!!!1 ! " So if I relate to, say, (as an example) "I'm blind from the tears that fall like rain So lost ever since you went away Sometimes our lives forever change My heart's never gonna be the saame" then I'm a "queenie"?

I'm shocked at how immature you are all being. Is this ATRL? I thought most people here were respectful and intelligent but the way you guys are responding to someone saying they are straight is disgusting... Why is this bothering people that he is straight? And why is it all a joke to pretty much attack someone for it?
Anticonformity, you don't have to defend yourself against one. No, relating to Britney's lyrics does not make you "queenie" (whatever that means) or gay or anything.

I have straight friends who like Britney Spears music. I mean I don't know if they follow her on social media/message boards, etc. but I do know they enjoy her songs.

It's 2015, your taste of music, hobbies, etc. don't define your sexual orientation. Stop trying to stereotype people on what they like.

I agree with the sentiment that what you like doesn't dictate who you like, but I mean... I remember having an argument with some random on Pulse in like 2008 about how I was straight and liked Britney aaaaaand flash forward 7 years and I had a dick in my mouth last night so I'm perhaps not the best advocate for this cause.

Ok I'm sorry but can someone please tell me why it's upsetting to jokingly call someone gay? Do gay men get upset when people think they're straight?
Or is it only wrong to stereotype them because being gay is still a "bad" thing? Fill me in, because I'm getting slightly offended right now.

It's teasing someone and getting them purposefully mad for the sake of everyone's else laughter while the person being attacked is getting agitated. Being gay is not a "bad" thing, obviously, but when everyone is saying things like "yeah well if you like Britney you obviously are gay", it's not a question of bad or good. It just seems immature and rude by the way it's being said. I don't know, to me I just don't like bullying in general and to me the past page looked a lot like a bunch of people ganging up and harassing someone and to me that doesn't fly no matter what the topic is, y'know?

Britney is an icon to both the Straight and Gay community.
Anyways, Britney's version of "Tom's Diner" is leaking....

I can understand that, but I don't percieve calling someone gay bullying. For it to be bullying, the terminology used would have to hold a negative connotation-- I.e., calling them a male who is into other males, or making fun of them for being gay... which, lol, 99% of this thread is gay so that would be interesting to say the least. Tbh it just comes across as very high and mighty, and frankly (indirectly) reaffirms at lot of the problems with how being gay is viewed in society. Even today. ETA: I recognize no ill intent is meant, of course.

LOL @ "and if they start talking about relating to the lyrics than hello Queenie" If a straight person said this about a gay person it would a f**king murder... That is one reason why I hate being a part of the Gay community. the LGBT community is so quick to get angry when a straight person stereotypes, but then it is ok for people who identify as LGBT to stereotype eachother. I find it very immature. I support you!

This is such a pathetic conversation, even in today's Pulse CHR landscape. I roll my eyes at each and every person who feels the need to vehemently defend their sexuality, and get super pissed at people who--even for a moment--pretend that magically, in any corner of the world, straight people have it harder.
ETA: Just watched that video, and lmfao that it reads like a computer reenactment of the posts that have happened after it.

For what it's worth, my perspective changed after living in the UK for a few years... where hypersexual straight guys won't be ashamed at all to listen to Britney's song (or female pop in general) in their car and fess up to liking it or even purchasing a few tracks. I think the whole "Ewww, I can't listen to that. It's gay music!" thing displays a dated American outlook on gender roles in society. Europeans are just more confident and don't give a s**t.
Now, that said, I've never met a straight man located anywhere who follows Britney's every career move online, knows her birthday, and can chronologically recall her discography by heart...
