I think this will be the true test whether she is over or not on CHR radio. With Iggy and her current rep dragging this down (no offense to her fans), I'm not sure it should be. Anyway, that phrase has to have been uttered countless times already in Britney's career. That day will obviously come, but I don't think we have any more indication that it's here than we did following FTBOMBH, DLMBTLTK, Boys, Outrageous, BTI, Radar or Criminal - in other words, her previous era ending underperformers.

I think this will be the true test whether she is over or not on CHR radio. Eh, I don't think so. Since her comeback, she's only had two singles that truly flopped ('Radar' and 'Perfume' - even 'Criminal', 'Ooh La La', and 'Work Bitch' managed to reach the Top 20). Prior to Britney Jean, she had her biggest era ever singles-wise, plus 'Scream & Shout', which was a hit due to her involvement. With a quality song, and some promo, she'll be fine.

I think this will be the true test whether she is over or not on CHR radio. How? I'm not even a Britney fan but this doesn't make sense to me. Just because her last album flopped doesn't really mean anything. FF and Circus both did really well. She just tried way too hard on Britney Jean, IMO. It wasn't radio friendly and no one is here for singer-songwriter Britney #sorry

Lol radio will eat up any Britney lead single, even Work Bitch with its atrocious edit climbed the chart and reached top 20 and even top 15 pretty quickly so please don't worry about how radio will treat a new Britney single.

I've always wondered why someone, anyone on her team didn't realize that a simple "work it" clean version would have been miles better than that ridiculous "work work" phooey they pulled out of their ass.

By that, I meant she tried too hard to be someone she's not...a serious music artist (sorry again, but it's kinda true..). Basically, my point is she should be sticking to club bangers and sexy songs. (I realize I am digging myself into a hole with these posts but I am actually really trying to say those things in the least offensive way possible...it's just my personal opinion lol)

I hate when people attempt to marginalize any artist. I suppose Adele should only sing ballads, Taylor should only sing country and Kelly should only sing breakup anthems, etc, etc? Some of my favorite Britney moments on record is her softer, more singer/songwriter side. Let Go, Everytime, Shadow, Unusual You, Hold on Tight, Alien - all absolute gems.
I do see that this is obviously not what the world wants from her, given BJ's reception. But I don't love this side of her any less because of it.

Iggy has a weird reputation right now... no one takes her seriously at all. I want her to just really kill a guest verse or something before Britney's single comes out so people are rooting a little bit more for Iggy instead of digging her in a grave.

Anyway, she really didn't. She did literally nothing to promote the album. Her management sent out a few tweets saying it was her most personal work yet, but the general public doesn't pay attention to that anyway. It's also worth noting that the good majority of the album is made up of "club bangers". She didn't do anything different at all. It was just a bad album with poor promo.

Um.. How was Britney Jean a 'serious' album? Wasn't the whole point of her naming the album Britney Jean to reflect that the album was going to be more personal/etc... I'm just saying, if you look at Britney's chart performance record, her more "personal" songs aren't the songs people remember as her "hits". I'm not saying she shouldn't have done this and good for her for wanting to but its apparent that the general public doesn't want more of THAT Britney Was the whole album "serious"? No. The album was indeed bad and definitely contributed majorly to its performance.

Iggy Azalea's rep is bad right now? OK... The fact that this post seems sooooo out of touch just highlights how far Iggy's fallen in such a short period of time. Iggy has a weird reputation right now... no one takes her seriously at all. I want her to kill her verse on this. She's only had 1 hot guest verse with "Problem". Her guest verse on Tinashe's "All Hands On Deck" is one of her best but it's not getting nearly enough exposure to aid her cause at all. I really do fear that Iggy's involvement will prevent Brit's single from being taken seriously.

I fear it also. Social media has a strong hold on public perception and success. Having a song titled "Pretty Girls" with only Britney would be fine and no one would bat a eye but throw in Iggy and people are going to be slaughtering it for the title alone.

Jfc it's pop music, most people already don't take it seriously in the first place. They want to have fun when it's on the radio, youtube it etc, so if the song is good there should be no "authenticity" issues affecting its performance imo (other than the natural causes that can affect any other song as well).....

Authenticity isn't even directly part of the equation here because it's pop radio, as you've said. But it doesn't change the fact that Iggy's overall reputation is so piss poor right now that it's "cool" to disown her. For pop radio, it doesn't matter WHY she's getting bad press or HOW her image issues began. It just matters that she fell from grace with the general public.
