This is really quite good. With the promotional push they clearly have lined up, I reckon this could actually hit.
I do, however, hate that there is exactly one too many "reallys" in the chorus.

Perfect spring song that a lot of young girls will be able to relate to.Very catchy. Not as good as Call me maybe, but still should be top 10 hit.

It's really cute.
I love it but...
...it sounds like it was lifted off of Kiss which isn't a bad thing to me, but she was talking about all of this growth and there is literally none lol. Her last album is one of my favorites though, so it's all good.
Secondly, while I love it, I'm not sure it's a hit.

She's so cute; I loved that performance. I'm impressed with how natural she seemed up there and she sound really really really good (though I couldn't tell if there were a high backtrack or not).
But ugh someone fix her hair. That length is awk af. It looks like Sia dyed her hair with CVS brand color.

It's cute...but that's kinda it. Granted, the only thing that has ever interested me from her is "Call Me Maybe," but I started to expect--given all the hype--that she'd manage to capture that lightning in a bottle again. But this isn't it, not even close. When I started listening, I thought it was from a bogus YouTube account that had changed the pitch higher to avoid copyright removal. But it's her actual account--it just sounds weirdly high.
Anyway, not strong to me at all, but it looks like they'll throw all their weight against this to make her get another hit, so we'll see. I could see it growing on me a bit, but it's really unremarkable.

So if you liked Kiss, you will really really really really really really like this song. If you didn't like Kiss, you will really not like this song. I loved Kiss, so this is right up my alley. Bubblegummy, but not nearly as juvenile as I feared it would be. I really really really really really really f**king hate that hair, though. Color is fine, but the cut is awful. Please grow out soon! I think I understand what Scooter meant now when he said he wouldn't let Carly come back until she had something as huge as CMM, and that this it. It's not so much whether this is as good as CMM (which I hated), as it is whether this can be as viral as CMM. Look at how everyone has latched to saying really a hundred damn times. I don't think any of us like the song THAT damn much, but it's an immediate talking point and the hook leaves an indelible mark on the brain. The video is probably going to be super cute and buzzworthy as well. And the song is certainly enjoyable, if not earth shattering. I'm not sure how I feel about the intentional use of her one-hit wonder status as part of the promotion leading up to this. I kind of get it - they have to generate attention for her somehow, and up until now CMM was all she's got. But that's indicative of her root problem from the last era - Carly herself grabbed no one's attention. If she wants to keep people's attention for longer than the lifespan of a hit song, she's got to bring more of herself to the table. She's very girl next door, but not in a super chatty and outgoing way like Kelly, a sassy and in your face way like Meghan, or a Cosmo Fun Fearless Female of the month way like Taylor. She's just kinda there; not sure what traits CRJ has that she can tap into, but I want her to figure it out. When I started listening, I thought it was from a bogus YouTube account that had changed the pitch higher to avoid copyright removal. But it's her actual account--it just sounds weirdly high. Her GMA performance was in a lower key and I (wait for it...) really prefer it, but I don't think a key change would change how anyone feels about the song that much.

Scooter said it's "on the level" of Call Me Maybe to hype the song. That's it.
He wasn't going to say "So we got this new Carly Rae coming out...and it's nowhere near as good as her last big hit, but what can ya do."

I believe the argument here in this thread is that if it wasn't on the level of CMM, he just shouldn't have said that. He could have said "it's great!" He could have said "this is going to be a great way to start her second album in America!" but to say it's on the level of CMM was an exaggeration before even hearing IRLY and let's face it, it's not, but Cynthia brought some really really really really really wonderful points up for sure.

Video premieres Friday, according to PlayIGA - also features Vine stars King Bach and Randy Mancuso (whoever they might be). TV sync in promo for Bravo's Newlyweds beginning tomorrow.
Anyway, a question: to those of you who say there's one too many repetitions of "really" in the chorus, what were you expecting the rhythm to be instead? Six of them makes sense to me because it keeps the eighth-note rhythm steady through the entire two bars ("x I / really / really / really | really / really / really / like you" lol), so I'm just sort of curious what you think the composition should be instead. I'm not really really really really really really sure yet if I like this or not. It's certainly catchy, but something about it seems off. This is how I felt about Call Me Maybe at first, though, so who knows.

Tying it to Call Me Maybe is an essential part of marketing new Carly Rae Jepsen music. A lot of music bubble people believe "This Kiss" and "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" are really good songs, but the market wasn't interested then and certainly wouldn't be interested in a new song that was "about as good as This Kiss." The market was craving a new Call Me Maybe. If you're her manager/public cheerleader, that's how you have to position this song - as the next Call Me Maybe. And while I get your point about setting expectations too high, the Call Me Maybe comparison conditions people to see this as a big deal. Call Me Maybe was a pop culture event, and Scooter wants people to see this song in that same light.

God bless the person that helped her with her stage presence. it got MUCH better. But sis, the hair? not sure.
The song is cute and catchy as fuck, but it can also get super annoying after a while (well, most pop songs do, so...).
But if this is a reflection of the album's sound i dont really see it doing much, since it is basically KISS 2.0.

As expected, it's under CNM on AllAccess. However, instead of the artwork, the image below is posted, which confirms that it goes for adds on March 24 and she will be performing the track on Jimmy Kimmel this Thursday.

32 on iTunes!! <3
Carly's performance was awesome, the choreo was good, and her voice sounded great!
I really 6x hate that hair though. Oh my gosh. I guess she needed to do something to age herself, but who figured 'ugly hairstyle' would be the first choice?

I like it for the most part. The 'really really really really really really' part is a little grating, but it'll grow on me for sure. Nevermind. I've had the really part stuck in my head all day.

Okay, I finally got to watch the GMA performance... ADORABLE! That choreography is so damn cute, how can anyone not like this girl?! She may be pushing 30, but her charisma and energy is totally 22 and I adore that about her.
However, I was not expecting that hair. I expect a weave for her upcoming promo, PLEASE. Her hair is much cuter longer, it tarnishes her adorableness like this (just a little bit).

Anyway, Katy Perry had basically the same criticisms (She's just there, no one's really interested in her, etc.) after IKAG. People on this board are still saying that about her, so I'm skeptical about how much it's necessary for a successful career. The way I see it, if you keep making hit songs you'll eventually become established, and success in the 2nd era is essential to avoiding one-hit wonder status. I think the viral aspect of 'I Really Like You' is a smart play. If Carly can prove she isn't a one hit wonder, radio may be more likely to support her next single, even if it doesn't have a gimmick.

I'm finally listening to this now. It's definitely catchy. I waited for the one-too-many 'really's and while I thought so on the first time, it went away after that so I think there are the right amount of reallys. lmao I'm a bit thrown off by how high her voice is though. I'm wondering if the one I'm listening to is pitched up or something. EDIT: reading some of the comments above, I'm guessing it's not...

I think the viral aspect of 'I Really Like You' is a smart play. If Carly can prove she isn't a one hit wonder, radio may be more likely to support her next single, even if it doesn't have a gimmick. I remember Good Time, but unfortunately most other people do not. It's akin to how many people still refer to Leona as a one hit wonder in the US, even though she had a following top 20 hit with Better In Time. Normally I would argue against it for purely technical reasons, but for whatever reason the second hit just didn't 'stick' in people's minds. And oddly enough Carly probably prefers it that way, at least for now - for purposes of hyping IRLY, reminding people of Good Time actually gets in the way of the one-hit-wonder spin she's going with. I wasn't here when Katy first came out, but I wouldn't say that's quite an analagous situation. There will always be people quick to write a person off in the midst of a novelty song's success, but Katy immediately followed up IKAG with Hot 'n Cold, which was just as huge if not huger; any talk about there being no interest in her quickly got laid to rest. Carly followed up CMM with an entire album and two following solo singles that all flopped. For what it's worth I would have disagreed even during IKAG anyway - Katy had a distinct style and persona that she was shooting for. That's the thing that Carly is lacking, IMO. I will grant that it's not entirely imperative to have that going for you (nor is it a failproof guarantee of winning people over if you do), but I do believe it is much harder to sustain larger success these days without it. You have someone like Flo Rida for example, who can generate the hits but not the album sales.

About the hair comments--dead on! I always preferred her as a brunette. But even when she had the red hair circa late '13-early '14, it looked more natural. What I saw on TV today, was an abomination. Only Hayley Williams can pull that hairstyle off successfully. As for her marketing an image, she really should use her cuteness as a selling point. I picked up on that since day one. And I liked the GMA performance too, and I was totally floored to see the improved choreography. She really has grown and become more acclimated as a performer. I really really (yes, pun intended) hope the American listening audience does keep an open mind and give this song a chance. I think a Top 10 peak in the Hot 100 isn't too much to ask

I've only listened to this once a few days ago, but I can still remember exactly how it goes. Which is rare for me based off one listen. The hook is effective.
