It seems to me that in the last 7 days, the song had a great boost in radio ... Is it right?

Since a new 2-CD GH CD with 35 songs on it is being released tomorrow ($11.99 @ Best Buy FWIW), does that pretty much confirm that this will be the final single from his current CD?

No, the two are unrelated. Tim McGraw: "35 Biggest Hits" is released by Curb Records (his old record company) [www.curb.com] Currently Tim is with BMLG which handles his latest studio album.

As trebor said, the 35 hits thing is yet another GH release from Curb. It won't have any effect on Big Machine's plans for Sundown Heaven Town. However, as onebuffalo and libby pointed out, Tim wants to release a new album toward the end of the year, which pretty much confirms that "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools" is the final single, and that we should expect a new lead single sometime in late summer or fall. Because this is more than likely the last single from the album, I expect Big Machine to stick with this one until it runs out of gas. I still don't think it will make it all the way to #1, but its top 5 chances are looking better and better. In fact, if Tim can stay ahead of Jason Aldean for one more week, he should move 7-5 on Billboard a week from tonight, as FGL will fall below, and I expect that Kenny will drop below as well.

Thanks---I didn't realize this was yet another desperate money grabbing effort from Curb Records which somehow manages to stay afloat despite having Lee Brice and little else compared to most other Nashville labels.
That's what they get for jerking Tim around with several rotten choices for singles, and as one of the very biggest Tim McGraw fans on this board, I'm flat-out delighted that this current CD as well as 'Emotional Traffic' are downright wonderful CDs and certainly stand up very well IMHO to his best CDs from the late nineties onward.

I'm a little surprised that this one is having such big updates the past few weeks after being flat for a while. This song is getting relatively old for a McGraw song, and it's a slow ballad that's not selling all too great in the middle of summer. I'm not complaining though because this is a great song. Just wondering what's going on behind the scenes here recently.

Just wondering what's going on behind the scenes here recently. The iTunes position for this one is somewhat misleading because it's charting twice -- the regular album version and the deluxe album version (there's no difference between the 2 of them, other than the fact that one lists it as "featuring Catherine Dunn" and the other is "with Catherine Dunn"). With both versions combined, it's consistently been selling ahead of "Wild Child", "Crushin' It", and "Baby Be My Love Song". I think the big reason this slowed down was because it wasn't getting a lot of top 10 conversions, but now that a few other songs have started plummeting, there are more spins available for Tim. I admit that I thought a few weeks ago that perhaps it was nearing the end of the road, but now it's looking like it could go top 5 on Monday's Billboard chart (assuming Kenny falls below and Tim stays ahead of Jason). I still can't see this one climbing all the way up to #1 but a top 5 peak would be great.

It's definitely odd for a Tim McGraw tune to still be on the rise after 20-something weeks on the charts, but since the downright wonderful 'Southern Voice' needed a hefty 21 weeks to reach the penthouse if memory serves, anything's possible on the charts these days.

After Consider Me Gone was #1 for four weeks, Southern Voice claimed the top spot after 19 weeks (in Billboard).

Does anyone think this could be CMA Song of the Year nominee, and further down the line Grammy nominee in country collaboration and song?

What's with today's +201 spin update? Is Big Machine pushing this song to #1 on MB this week or is it just a fluke? I see +100 spin updates out of the blue from time to time but this time it's a +200 spin update and combined with the fact that "Diamond Rings and Old Barstools" is in the top 5 right now, it looks suspicious...
EDIT: It was just a fluke update. If you think about it, it makes no sense for Big Machine to push this song this week when "Sangria" has #1 on lock...

Big Machine has definitely kicked this into "max spins mode." I'm honestly not sure what their goal is here. There's no way Tim can keep having these massive gains through next week; he'd be at insanely high levels of airplay by next Sunday. If the label is going for a #1 on Mediabase this Sunday, they will fail pretty miserably. There's no way this will catch "Little Toy Guns" or "Sangria" by the end of the chart week. Tim could have a bullet of 900-1000 spins but still peak at #3 on both Mediabase and Billboard charts. This situation sort of reminds me of the trigger-happy push for "Meanwhile Back at Mama's" where Tim gained roughly 800 spins in an attempt to knock Dierks Bentley's "Drunk on a Plane" from #1, but came up short and peaked at #2. In both of these situations, Tim could have easily split up the gains during the final push week over two weeks and had a better shot at reaching #1.
It's also possible Big Machine had planned this week to be Tim's final push several weeks ago, when it wasn't as clear Tim would end up so far behind Blake and Carrie by this week, and they didn't want to invest the money in delaying this song's push another week when single sales aren't yielding much of a return for the investment of pushing this longer.

Their strategy on his singles has been a mystery since day one. It's like they forget about him mid-stream and then wake up to give him a nudge at the finish - they did that with this song when it looked like he might not hit #10, and now again. They should have another single from this cd and should have from his last cd, too. I think Big Machine has done a pretty solid job with Tim. "One Of Those Nights" and "Highway Don't Care" were both huge #1 hits, and then "Southern Girl" went #1 MB/#2 BB. "Truck Yeah" and "Lookin' For That Girl" were both atrocious lead singles/obvious missteps, but "Meanwhile Back At Mama's", "Shotgun Rider", and now "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools" have all been big hits. I do think MBAM should have probably gotten #1 on at least one of the airplay charts, but "Drunk On A Plane" was just too big a hit for them to overcome. SR then became a huge hit over the fall/winter months, and now this one is heading for a very solid top 3 peak (maybe even #1 yet) despite sub-par sales. In today's country radio environment, I consider it a win that such a traditional-sounding song like this one was able to make it into the top 10 with ease. I would have loved another single from Two Lanes Of Freedom and I'd love another one from Sundown Heaven Town as well, but that's really on Tim. His deal with Big Machine is more of a partnership, so if he only wants 4 singles per album, then they're gonna oblige. And it really sound like Tim hopes to have a new album out before the end of the year, which almost certainly means that he'll have a brand new lead single out not too long after "Barstools" has peaked. As long as the next single is out by sometime in September, they should be able to release a new album before the end of the year.

There is a way for this to hit number #1 at least on MB Carrie will start falling this week. If Tim can sneak ahead and Big Machine does one of those Begin Again pushes, Voila! Number 1 on one of the charts it could take some doing but it could technically work. I hope so for such a beautiful song.

This is just downright sad. Tim gained 984 spins and 6.365 million audience impressions on Mediabase over the past week and still came up way short of even the Top 2, yet he's way ahead of Jason Aldean's #4 "Tonight Looks Good on You," so the big push wasn't at all necessary this week to reach a peak position of #3. What a colossal waste of time and money. Tim could've gained just over 2 million audience and between 300 and 400 spins and still reached the same peak position. I can't believe Big Machine didn't know better than to waste so much attention on this push when they could've done more to keep "Riot" or "Hit the Road" on the charts just a bit longer.
I'd be shocked if it turned out Tim's team was planning to push for #1 next week. This'll be the Greatest Gainer in spins and audience on both charts this week and another week of these gains would put Tim at 8700 spins and 59.5 million audience on Mediabase. Even Kelsea Ballerini couldn't reach these levels with the inflated gains from Bobby Bones, so I don't expect anything more from this Tim McGraw single.

A #3 peak is still great for a song like this, but I agree that the massive push was unnecessary. I imagine it, along with "Little Toy Guns", will start to crash next week. If Easton is done too, we could see three songs in the top 5 this week experience major losses next week.
I really hope they go with one more single from this great album. "Overrated" is the obvious choice imo, but I'd be happy with "Portland, Maine", "Lincoln Continentals And Cadillacs" or even "Dust".

Will this be #1 on both charts by the end of this week, or Billboard only? Probably neither. It got massively (and unnecessarily) Big Machined up the charts this week...there's no way that Tim can sustain these huge numbers/gains for another full week. Also, as I've said in other threads (a lot lately, it seems), we never see Billboard-only #1's. If Tim can somehow keep gaining through the 4th of July weekend, then maybe just maybe he could battle with Blake for the Mediabase #1, but I think that's highly doubtful. More than likely, Tim has peaked at #3 on both charts. I suppose it's possible that, if Tim can avoid a collapse this week and if he can hold off Jason Aldean through the holiday, then he might be able to sneak up to #2 when Carrie drops below. But I don't see him getting ahead of "Sangria" on either chart. "Sangria" will be #1 on Billboard tomorrow (with "Little Toy Guns" at #2), and I'm betting that Blake will stay at #1 through the 4th of July weekend, no matter what Tim does. I agree that Tim's gains this week were unnecessarily big, but I doubt Big Machine spent much money on this big push. Most likely it was just radio bending over backwards for them. Labels can't pay for airplay -- maybe Big Machine offered up some free McGraw tickets this week, but other than that, what can they do? As for "Riot" and "Hit The Road", those 2 songs were clearly going nowhere. "Riot" made the top 20 with low sales, and it would've taken another couple months for it to make the top 15, so there was no point in sticking with it. And "Hit The Road" spent 17 weeks on the Billboard chart and couldn't even get out of the 50's. Waterloo Revival is a new act, and they clearly have more work to do if they're gonna win radio over. Big Machine could have stayed with "Hit The Road" for another 1-2 months and it wouldn't have mattered. The verdict was in on that one a long time ago.
Big Machine doesn't have much going on right now, so I have to wonder if that means they're getting ready to premiere some new singles from their other artists. Over on the Pop and HAC charts, Nick Fradiani's debut single is moving slowly, and of course Taylor's "Bad Blood" is a huge multi-format and global smash right now, but that's not being promoted out of Nashville. So that only leaves the singles from Tim and The Cadillac Three. They could come back with another single from Waterloo Revival soon, but maybe this means that we'll see new singles from Danielle Bradbery, Seth Alley, and/or Lauren Jenkins soon.

The gains on this song this week were ridiculous! It could've coasted and gotten maybe a #2 peak on both charts but instead it settles for #3 on both. I expect Tim, Carrie and Easton to have peaked and all 3 will begin to tumble down the chart.

Unless BMLG pulls this tune at once I don't see why he can't rise to #2 today or tomorrow and finish the week there since he'll pass Carrie today or tomorrow and I don't see Jason gaining 700-800+ spins this week.

Anyone think there will be a 5th single? If so I'm hoping for "City Lights". I'm thinking they'll go with a new single from a new album though.

I would love a fifth single, especially if it's "Overrated," but most signs seem to point to this probably being it for the Sundown Heaven Town record.
