This sounds pretty good, kind of evokes the "outlaw" feel a bit. But the 2:17 duration of this song is just way too short for me, I find it rather bothersome. Would it have been too hard to extend this to the 3:00 mark? I can't think of any hits lately that were shorter than 2:45. Kind of will be a buzzkill when he plays this live, it will go by so quick. I agree it should be longer but this will most likely help Kip in the long run. Shorter songs tend to have an easier time getting spun in higher rotation than 4 minute one's or longer ("Young Love" was one of them at 4:38, though there was an edit). Not always the case obviously, but it can only help and I think most fans won't mind too much or even worry about it, even though I personally would also want this extended by a minute.

You know there was a time that songs (of this length) like this were the norm at radio. What would you rather have him do? Put an instrumental solo there? Add a poor verse just to make it 3 minutes?

I personally would have reworked the song around a bit to make it reach the 3 minute threshold, whether that includes a bridge, extra verse, or a sharp instrumental outro I don't care. To me, the song just seems so short and incomplete. I realize that songs used to be this length back in the day when Conway Twitty roamed, but times have changed a bit. It doesn't bother me to the point where I don't want this to succeed, but it is something I find slightly irksome, that's all.

Well unless there was some extra verse at the end, the sharp instrumental would likely be cut by DJs anyway.

I agree. When a song is playing on the radio the last thing I think about is run time, but of course in itunes that 2:17 is staring you right in the face. It's certainly not the shortest single in my library though (a distinction that belongs to Steve Wariner's "Burnin' The Roadhouse Down" at 2:02), not really even close. Heck, two of George Strait's biggest hits were shorter than this (Heartland & Fool Hearted Memory). That 3-4 minute window has been burned in people's minds though, and I couldn't find anything under 2:30 from the last 10 years (going back to Joe Nichols' "What's a Guy Gotta Do"). So it's certainly a bit of a risk, but I quite like it - no sense in dragging out a song just to fit a mythical window.

The current song by Rodney Atkins is only 2:30.
Ironically, the length of "Young Love" was about how long "El Paso" was, and "EP" was considered much too long when it was released.

Though, that's about all I'd wanna make a comparison of those songs as "El Paso" still is an amazing classic and as good as "Young Love" was, it's no "El Paso!"

YAY! Glad it finally debuted. I know it's short and rare that artists release songs that short these days, but maybe that'll make "stand out" and be different, like Kip is. It's much longer when he performs it live as well. :)

On the "long line of bloodline" vs. "long line, a bloodline" debate:
This acoustic video from over a year ago certainly sounds like he's saying "long line, a bloodline."

If Anna Kendrick's 2:07 long "Cups" could become a hit on pop, then so can this. I don't think length is a big issue here.

This is blowing up on my feed, too. I think it may be telling that Sirius has jumped on this, too. I don't listen as often as sabre14 (so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) but I never heard Young Love or Dirt Road on the Highway, and I'm to Blame I've heard a few times already, and is already on their Hot 45 weekend countdown. My husband said he heard it on one of our local stations, too. This is definitely off to a much stronger start than his previous two efforts.

I've heard "Dirt Road" a few times on The Highway but I never heard "Young Love", as that single had almost no buzz even though it reached #22 on MB.
I agree that "I'm To Blame" has already surpassed both "Young Love" and "Dirt Road" in terms of buzz and feedback as its everywhere in the social media world and news publications. 44 first week adds is very good. Not stellar but a solid start considering the under performance of his last two singles.
BTW: "Young Love" got 45 first week adds back in late November of 2013. "Dirt Road" got just 22 in April of 2014.

I'm a huge Kip Moore fan. Love his music, and I'd love to see this one succeed, even though I'm not the biggest fan of it (yet). The songs on the Soundcheck special were OUTSTANDING. Every single one.

44 adds is a very solid start. And since a few stations added it early, the total number of first-week adds was 53 I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), which is the best start yet for any of Kip's singles (on impact date that is). I'm very surprised that you're not feeling much hype for this one, matty005. I've seen a lot of love for it on social media already, and it shot up to #2 on iTunes country earlier today before Thomas Rhett's "When I Was Your Man" Bruno Mars cover and Texas artist Aaron Watson's new release "Bluebonnets" moved ahead. "I'm To Blame" is still sitting at #4 on iTunes country right now.

But trust me, I am so glad this is doing well. "Up All Night" was one of the best country CDs in years and if he can just come close to matching that on this next one, it will be amazing.

Woohoo!!! Love it so much!!! matty005 if you're a big fan of the album tracks off of "Up All Night", I'm all but certain you'll love what'll be on the new album. And Phil, I totally agree with you as well...some of the songs on the "Soundcheck EP" are downright amazing and most of them will be on the new album as well. "Hearts Desire" is something to see live, let me tell ya!! And "Come And Get It" is my jam, lol!

Which ones are your favorites? Just curious! I really liked all of them, but "Lipstick" sticks out...so good. Love everything about that song, hoping it makes the album. From "Up All Night" I loved "Drive Me Crazy" and "Reckless".

Which ones are your favorites? Just curious! "Drive Me Crazy," and "Crazy One More Time" are amazing, but my all time favorite song by him is, "Everything But You." I can't describe how much I love that song and how it holds a special place in my heart.

Which ones are your favorites? Just curious! "Drive Me Crazy", "Hey Pretty Girl" and "Everything But You" were the best on 'Up All Night' IMO. I echo the sentiments of Phil in that "Lipstick" is PHENOMENAL.
