"Raise Em Up" is the fifth single from Keith Urban's "Fuse" album. Add Date: 1/26 (thank you rbundy1987 ) Writers: Jeffrey Steele/Jaren Johnston/Tom Douglas Chart Run(Mediabase): Here is an article from Country Weekly that talks about the single (and confirms it): "When Keith Urban e-mailed Eric Church a demo of "Raise 'Em Up" to see if the "Drink In My Hand" singer would duet with him on the track, Keith didn't quite get the reaction he expected. "He [writes] back 'F you,' and I was calling up and I go, 'What's the matter?'" Keith recalls, laughing. "And he goes, 'How do you write a song as good as that?' He was furious that I could write a song that good. I said, 'I wish I wrote it, Eric,' and he said, 'It's an amazing song. I would love to sing that.'" Keith had a similar, if slightly less profane, reaction when he first heard the song, WHICH IS THE FIFTH SINGLE FROM HIS "FUSE" ALBUM. A song publisher sent him the tune, written by Jeffrey Steele, Jaren Johnston and Tom Douglas, with the e-mail subject line "Song Of The Year." "I'm like, 'calm down,'" Keith says, "and then I heard it and I was floored. Just extraordinary." The song is a journey that begins with raising your lighters at a concert to raising your voice for what you believe in to, ultimately, meeting your spouse and raising up your children. "There's so much imagery in the song and it's written in such a way that you can fill in all the blanks. I love that kind of style of songwriting." Keith says. "There were so many lines that got to me, but 'You take her by the hand/Make a stand/Buy some land/Make some love and then babies come', I'm like, 'That's what happened to Nic and I. That's our life right there.'" EVEN BEFORE ITS OFFICIAL RELEASE TO RADIO, "Raise 'Em Up" has been nominated for a Grammy award for Best Country Duo/Group Performance. Keith's "Cop Car," the third single from "Fuse", was also nominated for Best Country Solo Performance . The Grammy Awards air Feb.8 on CBS. Keith, who has won four Grammys, says receiving nominations never gets old. "It's a big thing. I mean, everybody from every country knows about the Grammys. They're the Oscars of the music world," he says. "So to get nominated is amazing and particularly for these two songs, you know. This album, just in general, has been extraordinary. I wanted "Get Closer" to be the end of a chapter and "Fuse" needed to be the start of the next chapter, and its done that in spades for me""

Great song, great lyrics, but I will say the chorus of this sounds IDENTICAL to the chorus of Urban's "Somebody Like You".
* Also, I wonder if this delays Eric's follow up single to "Talladega"?

I've heard the song on YouTube and was wondering why Eric sings more than Keith.

I've heard the song on YouTube and was wondering why Eric sings more than Keith. He...doesn't? Keith has the first verse/first chorus, Eric has the second verse/second chorus, and then Keith has the line "so you meet someone, the only one, you take her by the hand, make a stand, buy some land, make some love, and then babies come...raise 'em up". After that the next dozen lines or so are all Keith singing "raise 'em up [something]", and then they trade a bunch of "whoa-ohs" at the end. I'd say it's probably 60-40 Keith, maybe even 65-35 Keith. This is a great song, and I think it will be a huge hit for both artists. I expect it to be one of the biggest 5th singles released from any album.

Very excited about this release. Loved this song the first time I heard it. Keith and Eric did a great job at singing this live at one of Keith's concerts.

I don't even mind that the two artists' voices can be difficult to distinguish; perhaps it is because they meld so well? I mostly hear Keith. Perhaps, for this reason it won't interfere with a followup to Talledega.
Anyway, very happy this will be a single, I just couldn't imagine they would pass this one by.

Great single choice from a great album full with potential singles. This one has a nice slower tempo to it, I absolutely love it. I don't think this will cause any trouble with Eric's follow up single. Maybe they wait an extra 2-3 weeks after Talladega peaks to avoid some layover, but looking at what's left on The Outsiders, it's not like any of the singles choices sounds very similar to this at all.

What are some of the other biggest 5th singles? The granddaddy of them all: Above And Beyond by Rodney Crowell from Diamonds & Dirt. More recent examples: 1. My Eyes by Blake Shelton from Based On A True Story. 2. Roller Coaster by Luke Bryan from Crash My Party.

Wasn't Tim McGraw's My Next Thirty Years a 5th single? It was a 5-week #1, a pretty good run for a 5th single, but I might be wrong about when it was released.

Tim's had some big fifth singles, most notably "My Next Thirty Years" and "Where The Green Grass Grows". Some other big fifth singles that I can think of are Zac Brown Band's "Free", Shania Twain's "Honey, I'm Home" and "You Win My Love", Martina McBride's "Whatever You Say" (though I guess that could be a sixth single if you count "Still Holding On" - "Wrong Again" would qualify though in that case), Reba McEntire's "And Still", Garth Brooks' "The River" and "Callin' Baton Rouge", Dixie Chicks' "Without You" and Keith Urban's own "Tonight I Wanna Cry" and "I'm In" are some pretty successful fifth singles.
"Raise Em Up" is a very solid choice, and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it among the most successful fifth singles in recent years. Keith and Eric blend nicely together, and this should keep the Fuse album going for a little while longer.

That's a stacked day already, with Tim McGraw, Maddie & Tae and Mo Pitney, but I guess that's typical of January.

Glad this was chosen. Perfect album closer to an album that had all the right songs released as singles. Seriously, I wouldn't have done anything different from the choices and order for the singles this era. That's a stacked day already, with Tim McGraw, Maddie & Tae and Mo Pitney, but I guess that's typical of January. You can add Brad to that date as well. Yikes. Poor Mo Pitney.

With this as the fifth single, I can say Fuse has been one of the strongest album eras for Keith Urban, singles wise. This should do well and I see them having a memorable performance at the 50th ACM Awards (or maybe in the GRAMMYs!). These new singles from Keith/Eric, Tim, Zac Brown Band, and Brad already make 2015 a better year for country radio than the past three years!

Fuse is strong radio airplay era for sure, but all of his albums have gone 4 singles deep. 31 singles since the year 2000, all of them have gone Top 10 and 27 of them have gone Top 3, and it would be tough to top the Be Here era for singles. Days Go By #1 3 Weeks Better Half # 2 Making Memories of Us #1 5 Weeks Better Life #1 6 Weeks Tonight I Wanna Cry #2

^ Wow, I know Keith has been one of the most reliable and consistent hitmakers in the past decade, but learning about how 27/31 of his singles have reached top 3 and higher is pretty incredible! Does Keith have the longest active streak for top 10 finishes? I think only Carrie Underwood can match or probably surpass such feat!

If you include Start a Band it is 32 consecutive singles in the Top 10 and dating back to 2000. Next closest is indeed Carrie at 20.

What are some of the other biggest 5th singles? Aside from those mentioned, Jason Aldean's "Fly Over States" and "When She Says Baby" were both pretty big hits. Kenny Chesney's "Reality" went to #1, although it didn't sell very well. There's Taylor of course. "Should've Said No" and "Ours" both went to #1 and "Fearless" went Top 10. Eric Church's "Like Jesus Does" reached the Top 5. Thomas Rhett's "Make Me Wanna" has just reached the Top 10, although I'm sure most people forget the first two singles even existed. And "This Is How We Roll" is a fifth single as well, although there's a huge asterisk there because that was from a re-release. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

^ To add to nick64's list, Carrie Underwood's "I Told You So" also did quite well. It was #2 hit following four #1s, and although it wasn't one of her biggest airplay hits, it's actually one of her highest-peaking songs on the Hot 100. And the Randy Travis duet certainly helped things there. ;)

I might be in the minority here, but I find this song to be extremely unmemorable. It's not a bad by any means, it's just painfully bland.

^Just recently we had Luke Bryan have a pretty big #1 with Roller Coaster as well, and Blake Shelton got to #1 with My Eyes. Both are gold or going to be certified gold.

This is the song on Fuse that stood out best to me on first listen, and it's the song that has stuck with me since, so I'm very pleased that it's now a single. I like that the song goes from the typical "raise your glass" scenario to a soldier's funeral to the transition to family life. It's a bit odd, I suppose, that there isn't much connection between the scenarios and that there isn't a linear narrative. But I feel like the song is ultimately a statement about the unity of our actions in life, no matter the context, and I find that both comforting and powerful. Keith and Eric both have voices that show the wear of life, and this song needs that, so they make for an excellent combination here. Personally, I didn't have much trouble distinguishing between their voices -- their tones are definitely more similar than I would have thought, but their phrasing choices are different and distinctive.

I wouldn't go so far as painfully, but it's well in the style of other Keith Urban songs I've heard. Not a lot that is surprising -- Eric's edgier voice helps some, and a touch slower pace.
This is not a combination of singers I'd expected to collaborate together. Interesting that Keith reached out to Eric for this.

Keith and eric are friends, I heard eric and keith talk about them and their wifes getting together for dinner and thingsand how they text back and forth about different music that they are listening to at that moment, so I don't see this odd at all,

Thanks - would (obviously) not have guessed that they'd be personal friends based on public image, styles of music. I guess that is why Keith continued the conversation if Eric's first response was to tell him "f u"
