Her SPS total last week was 25k, I don't think sales of the two singles along is going to get her to 40k TEA. They must mean all TEA/SEA. Where was Lips are Movin going last week? Kworb's sales estimate for this past week was 146k (#5). That would be 14k units. Estimate for AATB was 95K. That would be another 9k, so a total of 24k from single sales, she hasn't doubled her sales of the singles this week.

Like other posters have said Meghan has an image to go along with her distinct sound. Which I know has been done before. But not really much last year. When I used to see Carly Rae Jepsen perform at the time. I used to say to myself "is she serious". She reminded me of a High School Talent show performer. She was too much like the innocent girl next door. Plus in my opinion "Call Me Maybe" was more of a Guilty pleasure than "All About That Base". Maybe that hurt Carly's album sales as well.

That would be another 9k, so a total of 24k from single sales, she hasn't doubled her sales of the singles this week. Clearly, there is some sort of typo in HDD's post. Either the number is too low (because it doesn't take into account SEA) or the last line is wrong (because it suggests SPS is only TEA). However, she's definitely getting more than a 24K boost from TEA. She got 15.5K this week, and that was without Lips are Movin or any of the new songs. I'd envision a breakdown like this (I'm taking a conservative approach to the new tracks - assuming they'll fade - but that's not a guarantee with Trainor) 160K for LAM = 16K 100K for AATB = 10K 30K for DFH = 3K 20K for Like I'm Gonna Lose You = 2K 20K for Title = 2K 12K for Close Your Eyes = 1.2K 10K for 3am = 1K That already takes you north of 35K, and I could envision them expecting an extra ~5K units from all the other tracks combined. -- Also note: During Christmas week, the Title EP received a ~2K boost from SEA. If we double that to account for Lips are Movin and then allow for another 1-2K for the other album tracks, you're still looking at a fairly small SEA bump in comparison to TEA.

Right, I'm not doubting that she will get 40k+ from TEA, but it won't be just from the two singles, as HDD implies. She'll also be begging at least 3k from streaming this week.

Meghan Trainor Heading for No. 1 on Billboard 200
By Keith Caulfield | January 14, 2015 9:26 PM EST
Meghan Trainor's Title is set to bump Taylor Swift's 1989 from the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Industry forecasters suggest the "All About That Bass" singer should easily soar to No. 1 with over 220,000 in equivalent album units in the week ending Jan. 18. Swift's 1989 will step aside after nine nonconsecutive frames in the penthouse.
The top 10 of the new Billboard 200 chart will be revealed on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
Title was originally released as an EP by Epic Records in 2014, and was reissued on Jan. 13 with additional songs. The EP debuted and peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 dated Sept. 27, 2014.
Traditional album sales of Title are off to a handsome start as well, as it could sell over 180,000 in its first week.
Other albums aiming for high debuts on the Billboard 200 include Kidz Bop Kids' Kidz Bop 27, Mark Ronson's Uptown Special and Jazmine Sullivan's Reality Show.

Now let's see what she does second week. I'll be really sad if she drops like 80% next week in album sales, although the strength of SEA/TEA will keep her high on BB200 for a long time.

When you have two big hits and are the flavour of the month i doubt negative reviews will do much damage. I doubt she will score any win at the grammys, so it will be interesting how the album react in the long run (i suppose it will depend on how the next singles will do)

She'll be moving at least 25-30k TEA/SEA units for the foreseeable future, so she's not going to drop off the chart to oblivion anytime soon, the way say Tove Lo has or Ariana did before they started including equivalent units.

OUR TOP 15: Sony dominates the new releases this week with five debuts in the Top 15 on both the Sales and SPS charts. Epic’s Meghan Trainor takes the top spot this week, likely just missing 200k in sales. She will, however, be among the top five largest January sales weeks going back to at least 2006. Another Sony act, Sia, makes an appearance in our SPS projections this week. As this week’s SNL musical guest, we’ve built in an expected bump in weekend track sales and streams. Here’s how it looks headed into the weekend: Sales: * Meghan Trainor (Epic) 180-190k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 80-85k * Kidz Bop (Razor & Tie) 70-75k Ed Sheeran (Atlantic) 30-35k Sam Smith (Capitol) 25-28k Nicki Minaj (YMCMB/Republic) 25-28k J. Cole (Roc Nation/Columbia) 24-27k * Jazmine Sullivan (RCA) 24-27k * Mark Ronson (RCA) 24-27k Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 (Hollywood) 20-22k * Ella Henderson (SYCO/Columbia) 19-21k Hozier (Columbia) 16-18k Sam Hunt (MCA Nashville) 15-17k Into The Woods (Walt Disney) 13-15k Garth Brooks (Pearl/RCA Nashville) 12-14k SPS: * Meghan Trainor (Epic) 215-225k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 120-125k * Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 70-75k Ed Sheeran (Atlantic) 70-75k * Mark Ronson (RCA) 65-70k Sam Smith (Capitol) 50-55k Nicki Minaj (YMCMB/Republic) 50-55k Hozier (Columbia) 40-45k J. Cole (Roc Nation/Columbia) 35-40k * Jazmine Sullivan (RCA) 27-30k * Ella Henderson (SYCO/Columbia) 25-28k Sam Hunt (MCA Nashville) 24-27k One Direction (SYCO/Columbia) 24-27k Ariana Grande (Republic) 21-24k Rae Sremmurd (Interscope) 20-22k Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 (Hollywood) 19-21k Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 18-20k Sia (Monkey Puzzle/RCA) 18-20k ** SNL appearance this weekend **

Because if it's just sales weeks Taylor Swift would have a couple more in the top. On your Top 5 list alone, she still has a 401k, 331k, 325k, 312k sales weeks.

It's very interesting how SPS nearly doubles some totals. Look at Nicki. She's only moving 25k but she's expected to chart with over 50k. I'm not complaining!

Meghan will easily go platinum I'd say, she needs only a moderate 3rd hit to do that. Excellent
ALso nice for Mark Ronson! Who would've thought that he'd be big with his THIRD album after the hype he had in 2006.

Sales: Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 (Hollywood) 20-22k SPS: Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix, Vol. 1 (Hollywood) 19-21k Interesting. I didn't think an album could LOSE numbers when SPS is added in....

Just my opinion but following the bb200 is no longer fun. Way too confusing, makes zero sense that listening to a full album now counts as buying one. Jump the Shark move Billboard.

How it's any different than before, please enlighten us... The same albums do very well, the charts only reflect the true popularity in the long run better than before.
The times of only buying an album from store is history for now and a chart should reflect that. I'm listening to music more than ever but buying less albums than ever.

denverd- didn't HITS have that scenario the Slim Shady compilation? (the SPS total was reported lower than the sales). Surely they must be typos, as... how is that possible?

Right and the Hot 100 reflects your streaming / listening habits. The BB200 should reflect your buying habits no matter how minuscule they are.

They should change it from the best selling albums chart to the best ways you consume your music chart.

Well, it was never called "Billboard 200 Best-Selling Albums," so BB didn't have to worry about the name. There now is Top Album Sales to show which albums are selling the most.
I don't particularly love the new formula, but it was inevitable, I suppose. If an album sells well enough, it still will fare well on the BB 200.

Listening to a full album doesn't equal buying one. Listening to a full 10 track album 150 times equals buying one. But that's irrelevant on the micro level. The industry has been using TEA (and more recently SEA) for years now to track how well an album is doing. Billboard tracking using a similar methodology as the industry is an important shift for them to make to stay relevant.
